Hearing Barricades again got me teary eyed.
And the way they swung around on ODM gear and slay titans... gave me season 1 vibes. MAPPA did an incredible job this episode. They truly solidified themselves as Wit's successor

Small detail I love here. Keith Shadis was the survey corps commander before Erwin, and he ignored Erwin's more subtle plans of avoiding the titans, in favor of blind attacks, that got so many soldiers killed. He regrets that, and here, he is leading his students, telling them not to worry about fighting, and instead luring the titans into a trap. Nice character arc.

Shadis is in fact the Commander we see in the very first opening scene of the Anime. He is also the one who breaks down crying to the mother about learning nothing new about the titans while admitting her sons sacrifice turned out to mean nothing. It was this incident that finally broke him and made him resign as commander of the Scout Regiment. Wonderful character arc.
Another detail is how he is unbothered by the titans around. Bro has been fighting titans outside the walls all his life. Fighting them again is like no big deal

All the references to the battle of Trost just made me happy.
- The resupply team hiding inside, ending up being scolded by Jean.. And Jean looking out at the two titans, wavering in fear.. He took charge now without any hesitation. Back then he questioned his leadership capabilities. He deserves to be a Section Commander at this point.
- All of them jumping down to attack the titans from the building, reminded me of the time they dropped down the elevator in S01E08.
- Louise being saved by Mikasa again! Killing the titan with the same strike she did the first time..
And I have to add that the bystander looked like one hell of a hero right there. He was the special one that saved them. I really loved this episode.

Them all going to the roof of the fortress to gather the titans reminded me of the plan they made to clear out the titans in the supply room. All of them working together towards a singular goal, I love it

It's amazing how the trio of Jean, Mikasa, and Armin feels almost as natural as Eren, Mikasa, and Armin
It’s because Jean is a GOATed character and will fit in anywhere.
Honestly one of my favorite things about the final season is that in Season 1 the whole section where Eren is presumed dead and we get to see Armin, Mikasa, Connie and Jean among others work together, that part was really cool to me. I really liked getting to see them all interact and work together in battle without Eren around, and getting to see more of that here with all the call backs to Season 1 and the awesome music just felt really satisfying to me. EMA may be the main trio but I like JMA maybe just a little bit more.

It's crazy how the show has come full circle. Season 1 all these characters we know and love were the ones cowering in fear and doubting themselves, but they've finally taken the torch from their old teachers, most of them having laid down their lives for the sake of those who come after. Floch may have been the only survivor besides Levi who heard Erwin's speech before his final charge but the spirit of his words lives through the actions of the surviving scouts: "We trust our successors to do the same for us."
Jean became the leader that Marco expected him to be.
When that barricades started I knew that I was gonna love this ep.man this was so nostalgic

I love how JMA all have different poses when jumping off the ledge at 2:12 and it really shows their characters a bit now. Jean's is clearly where he's preparing to launch his right thunderspear with a very headstrong posture, Armin has both arms out as if going to use both at the same time for efficiency and security's sake, and Mikasa has the classic posture of a nimble Ackermann
1.) I loved how they animated this entire battle and this entire OST as well! Jean leading everyone, Mikasa up and SLAYING the Titans, Commander Shadis taking getting well deserved spotlight, and
2.) Armin’s first official kill in ODM gear.
I can't get over the recruit flying scene, the animators went so hard and I love every single frame of it.

This scene shows how much armin has improved. He is directly engaged in the fight with his other comrades and not with not a single bit of fear. Damn armin had the best character development.

this scene really showed jean’s leadership skills, i’m really surprised that isayama made armin the commander after hange despite the lack of leadership shown by armin in season 4
Ikr, Jean has always shown an exceptional leadership skills, he’s just the perfect leader to either captain or commander (also said by Levi in the inside out interview) the way Isayama put him aside for the sake of a mc after all this build up since the beginning of the series was one of the worst things he did..
Because armin has the vision of a scout regiment commander, while jean purely has leadership
Hange had always seen Armin as Erwin's successor, so it doesn't surprise me that Hange chose him, however I do agree that Jean was just as capable, if not more capable of becoming commander of the scouts.
Shadis lived as the biggest bystander, but now he became what he left so long ago, a commander.
Shadis became the scouts shadow commander, and seeing him be one again Made me smile.
That entire moment was so nice to watch. To see them fight Titans with ODM gear again felt like watching season 1 in the battle for Trost. Just the way the recruits are so scared & the strength of Shadis & Jean leading them then & watching them swing the thunder spears with courage in their eyes against pure terror was AWESOME!!!
the odm gear movement reminds me when the scouts fought annie in the walls and eren and his squad fighting the titans for the first time , mappa really nailed the odm gear scenes this episode , for sure top 5 odm scenes

Armin's send off to Pyxis was really meaningful considering hes the first commander that trusted him.
While everyone were clearing down titans with the thunder spear, we have mikasa and instructor shadis just killing their napes with blades . Badass

Jean character development is great but people saying thta he is better than Eren for Mikasa is not worthy.Eren literally killed two traffickers to protect Mikasa when they even don't know each other.he protect Mikasa everytime and love her more than anyone but never say her directly his actions shows his love..And Mikasa love for eren is unconditional.Jean always know that he never can replace Eren and Mikasa never love him as lover so he just accept the truth and care for Mikasa juat as her friend.

I love the part in anime where a bunch of my favorite characters get together to kick ass like this. Loved it when Mustang's group got back together and Izumi, May, Hohenheim and Greeling fought in Fullmetal Alchemist, loved it when the Hidden Leaf ninja all fought for their village in Naruto, loved it when the pro heroes showed up to take down the enemy (a couple of times!) in My Hero Academia, loved it in Advent Children when everybody helped Cloud, and I love it here!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

This scene is next level amazing. From the throwback OST to Shadis protecting the yeagerists who moments before beat him up, Jean’s leadership, and the heartbreaking death of another beloved commander, it’s one of my favorites in the series.
