  • The Jende Industries 250x100x12mm 2 sided Glass Lapping Plate has one etched top side used with corresponding lapping powders to lap any grit sharpening stone of any size, from full size to 1x6 to 1x4. The flat back side of the plate is used as a reference plate with sandpaper or films to lap the backs of planes and chisels, or to sharpen. The 10"x4"x 1/2" plate is large enough and sturdy enough for the job! The lapping plate comes with coarse, medium, and fine Silicon Carbide Lapping powders.

    I just bought one recently … used on naniwa diamond stone 1000 and 3000 this worked perfect to flatten them very fast. Would recommend…

    I always had trouble with grit running of the edges of my plate. Probably too much water.

    • @JendeIndustries
      @JendeIndustries  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - you want to use not too much, but not too little water :) but inevitably the grit will run off the plate as it gets pushed around. It's the nature of the beast.

    I don't understand : the abravises are obviously eating at the glass plate much faster than they are at the ceramics/natural/ etc sharpening stone. Meaning that your glass plate is going out of flat very fast. Meaning that it can't be used to flatten anything since it's not flat itself.
    What's the deal?

      Thanks for watching. You're not wrong, sir, but I think you are missing the point. If you use a flat piece of glass to lap, then you will - as you correctly pointed out - dish the glass and it won't be flat. So you get only a few uses out of the plain piece of glass. When you add the channels in the glass, each segment formed is flat and wears differently over time. So the overall flatness is more intact as you wear down the segments on the plate. Once you bottom out to the channels, you begin dishing the plate. In the end, the glass lapping plate we offer is a medium term, economical plate as compared to more costly, and longer lasting diamond lapping plate. Most importantly, the glass plate can lap our Jende Diamond Resin stones, which should not be done on diamond lapping plates.

    Does the glass dish over time with the sic grinding the glass along with the stone

    • @JendeIndustries
      @JendeIndustries  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the glass will ultimately dish. The grooves help the the lapping be more effective while offsetting the wear until the grooves bottom out.

      @@JendeIndustries any way to reflatten them?

    • @JendeIndustries
      @JendeIndustries  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jojojaykay I should mention that this was designed with our Jende Resin Diamond Stones in mind. If you lap diamond on diamond, you only wear down the diamonds on both, so SiC on glass is the better approach. But once the plate wears down, there is no really refacing it. It should last the normal user a while, though.

    I just purchased the Jende lapping plate. I am new to these types of diamond and boride stones. I have not yet used the boride stones yet as they need to be lapped first. My Edge Pro diamonds stones need to be cleaned, Can I do that with this set or do I need the aluminum oxide 240 grit powder for 400 grit stones along with 60 grit silicon carbide powder for these course grit stones? Thank you for any and all advice.

    • @JendeIndustries
      @JendeIndustries  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for buying our lapping plate! You can use the SiC powders that come with the plate - I'd start with the medium and see how it does on the coarser plates, but as you get to the higher grits, you can use the fine powder. However, you can also use the Aluminum Oxide powders if you have them with very similar results. As long as the stones get flat and clean!

      @@JendeIndustries Thank you for your response, and please help me clarify; the flat side of the plate would be used with the powder to clean the higher grit stones, or would I still use the cut side. My thought would be that the cut side of the plate would be damaging to the diamond stones.

    • @JendeIndustries
      @JendeIndustries  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Paul-ge7dg Happy to help out! I recommend using the grooved side for all your lapping. The flat side can always be used for reference sharpening with wet/dry. If you use the flat side for lapping, it will start to dish more.

    Can you lap a ceramic stone on this?

    • @JendeIndustries
      @JendeIndustries  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the included Silicon Carbide powders can be used to lap harder stones like Arkansas and Spydercos.
