The Ethridge, TN Community is awesome, my wife and I visit it regularly since we live only a hour and a half South of there in NW Alabama, as a matter of fact, I recognized some of the houses that were shown here in the video. We have some that we do business with on a regular basis with there and have became friends with. Some truly great people there!

A lot of Amish have moved to our area in Wisconsin and we're happy to see them here. This includes the areas in Eau Claire, Chippewa, and Clark counties.

That's great - Wisconsin is a state Amish have really found appealing. Just curious, do you think most of the non-Amish are also happy to have them around?

I live here in what we call “Amish Country” in Ethridge, Tn. They are one of the oldest order that still exists. No colored flowers including flowering herbs. I walked around the back of the house with an Amish lady and she showed me her secret herb garden that stays hidden from the public. I also went upstrair of an Amish home and saw Amish fiction books packed up sitting on the stairs. 😂 She said they aren’t suppose to read them but she does. 😂 I use to take them to Nashville to the chiropractor and to the dentist regularly (before I started working.) I would get dozens of letters weekly asking me to take someone somewhere. Once they start trusting you, they don’t mind asking. However, the appointment or destination has to be more that 20 miles away for them to use a car. When they move, they pay a semi truck to come haul all of their belongings and animals to the new location. They move to start new “settlements” when they start getting so many in one settlement. You can only have so many blacksmiths, bakers, candle makers, and hickory rockers makers in one area before you start encroaching on each other’s business. 😉 I have a dentist friend that would meet me in a small guest house in the community and do free dental work for them. They have the worst dental hygiene of anyone. Many of the youth have dentures by 18 years old.

Farmville Virginia is a strong community that has been in existence since the late 80's, my wife and I lived there and when there was need of help building many farm buildings in the Maine communities we moved there 14 years ago. When my wife passed away this past March i decided to sell my farm here and move back to Farmville to be near my brother and daughter and set up my Grandfather house and build a couple greenhouses and garden and settle in and wait for our precious Lord. The Farmville community just lost a couple this last Sunday and their 8 children were injured in a vehicle/buggy accident. My brother told me that there were hundreds of Amish brethren from several states that came by horse and buggy and by ride sharing for the funeral. A wonderful thing happened that i have rarely seen before. The English community came together to feed and house the mourners on Thursday and cared for their animals and even the people hired to provide transportation. Nearly $100,000 has been raised by the English side of the community in one week alone. God's Love is shining bright in Farmville.

I also live in Virginia and you see a lot of Amish out, they have little stores where I live where they sell home baked goods that are amazing! Also they sell furniture and things they have made like purses or clothing, the folks are very friendly and they are very helpful. We can also go to the community and tour, which is really cool.

@@ctg18158 near Farmville Virginia, they call it Amish Country, small little Country rural area but their foods and craft work are amazing! One of the places is called Yoders, they even have a small farm petting area for kids.
I highly recommend it! But be careful because there are a lot of horses and buggies that go up and down the main roads throughout the day which can be hard to see around the curves.
If you want to visit the Amish community they have tours you can set up and they will lead you around the areas, show you the houses, how they build, etc..
And they have things for kids to make it exciting.
They are really sweet and friendly people, the men are very helpful and the women are super sweet!

I was surprised to hear that Salem AR because my husband and I spend 4 days there 3 years ago and I Googled trying to find an Amish community. I couldn't find one. My granddaddy also was in the hospital there over 20 years ago. It must be a small community.

Southern Kentucky has a huge community of old order Amish, new order Amish, old order Mennonite, and new order Mennonite, and all of those communities work together a lot. Scottsville is often mentioned but it is only one small area of the larger anabaptist communities out here. Elkton, Guthrie, oak grove, pembroke, trenton, Liberty, Hopkinsville, all comprise one large area of these diverse settlements. These folks are incredibly entrepreneurial and provide the entire Kentucky and Tennessee region with greenhouses, farming equipment, farm fencing, draft animals, barns, homes, organic feed, cover crop seed, vegetables, etc.

The plain Anabaptist communities in Polk (Delano), McMinn (Englewood/Athens), and Monroe (Tellico) counties in TN have gone through some changes over the years. They aren't Amish. Their church services are in Engish, not Pennsylvania Dutch, and the openely accept outsiders into the church. Some of the members are former Amish, but they are more Old Order Mennonite, and are nearly as conservative as the Swartzentrubers.

It is right off highway 35 just before you go off of the mountain to Scottsboro Alabama. It is my understanding these people came from the Delano TN community. We're hoping they will have their farmers market opened up by spring of 2022. Interesting, thanks. There is a small community in Barbour County, started 2017, which I see is next-door to Tucker. But that might be a very new one.
Btw this is a recent settlement list, one of the handiest places to find this info if that's of interest: groups.etown.edu/amishstudies/files/2020/10/Amish_Pop_by_state_and_county_2020.pdf
It's quite up-to-date, but obviously won't have the very newest, which is one reason I was curious when you mentioned this WV community. I communicate with the people who maintain this list and try to let them know of any new ones I hear about.

I'm surprised to see that you didn't mentioned the Amish community near Sarasota FL? I believe it may be called Pine Castle.

What are the predominant names that you find in all your research? My last name is Lapp from the Lancaster/Lebanon county PA.
ST Lawrence, Jefferson and Lewis county NY.
New York State in general. I don’t see much from this state and there are more communities than there has been in the past.

Miller is the most common of all and Stoltzfus would probably be number 2 as the most common Lancaster name, though others like Hochstetler, Yoder, Hershberger, Beiler/Byler, are common (could add to that list of course). I did a video on common names if you haven't seen it yet. Certain names are quite specific to certain communities as you probably know. As for NY, I did a big video on the many Amish communities in the state: th-cam.com/video/3s1FQyIriV0/w-d-xo.html

There is a pretty good Mennonite community right outside of Star City in Lincoln county Arkansas. They have their own shopping center outside of town called the Village.
The locals call them the cult as they are rather standoffish outside of selling you something in a shop. Generally if you are an outside male they don't allow their women to deal with you. If you walk in a shop the woman will walk to the back and get a man to ring you up. When I was a kid a lot of the older ladies would refuse to even walk through a door held open for them by an outsider male.

Kentucky has been a very attractive state for Amish. It now has several dozen communities. If I do a part 2 I'd probably choose one from that state as well.

I am wondering if the Amish that use electric in the southern states is because of the elevated humidity/temps in the spring and summer (air conditioning)?
