- New quick tutorial describing how to get a supersaw-like sound out of the TG77 or SY77. There is a lot of potential in this sound. Adding amp envelope and filtering can take it to a whole new level. Consider this a quick guide to getting a foundational sound you can build upon. Recipe below:
Initialize a two element AFM mono patch
Select algorithm 45
Set self-feedback for the first three operators
Set operator 4 to waveform 14 and 0.5 course tuning to make an interesting sub oscillator
Turn off phase sync for operator 2 and 3, de-tune them +/-10
Copy element 1 into element two and de-tune them both +/-3
Go explore!
The element copying trick near the end was worth the watch alone, thank you!!
Thank you for this walkthrough!!! Worked like a charm, really hoping you’re interested in making more of these!
More to come!
@@unalienate Yes, more please. I get my SY77 on Thursday and so far these have been very informative!
This is an AWESOME use of FM synthesis.
Great tutorial for practical sound design!
Still, makes for tweaking the JP-8000 much easier lol
Great! I´ve always wante to see someone doing/hearing things like this with the 77 / 99
Since 5 and 6 are unused, they could be used to modulate the carriers when you run out of feedback for the sub oscillator, although I thought there was a saw in the waveform selection but I guess I misremembered. You could also awm elements which have saws (unless they don’t… 😂) for a different sound. These are great keep them coming!
Thanks! Just recreated your patch on the SY99 - sounds great!
awesome! love these synths! i have had a lot of fun making 'analog' style patches on the SY77, a similar stacking trick i like is panning the two AFM elements to the left and right slightly (or use the movement pan if you want to go nuts) to get a stereo effect going.
Very nice...
Super Rectangle?
Wow. That comment is super square.
