    A few things you should mention. For one after initially disconnecting the battery, I would have removed that LCD cable. When completing the repair, attach the LCD cable before connecting the battery. 2, bending that battery the way you did is extremely dangerous. They will basically explode like that into a ball of flames. If you rip through that paper and it hits the metal frame or a metal tool you could ignite the battery. This is why Apple generally replaces the shell with the battery pre-installed already, they do not remove these as they are a fire hazard. 3., You can use alcohol to remove the adhesive, get a high % if possible. 4. use a credit card or other plastic card to cut through the adhesive underneath in conjunction with the alcohol.

      I have a small spatula I use to remove the batteries.. what a dub design on APPLE's part.. and yes the batteries are very dangerous and if they burn they catch the case on fire and everything burns.. another design flaw for apple..

    • @SpecialJay
      @SpecialJay 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you use the credit card as a little slide to drip the alcohol under the battery

      I'd use acetone, as provided in the iFixit kit for MacBook Pro.

    • @CantonBn
      @CantonBn ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you are WRONG. Firstly apple doesn't repair these for years now. they send you off to third party who will do it like you see here. acetone or 99% rubbing alcohol and an old credit card will be fine. Stories you hear about these catching fire are dramatic but profoundly rare.

    I just did this, my notes: You only need to disconnect the centre cable to allow the two halves to split. remove battery with chisel/sharp edge tool to cut through the adhesive(i didn't bend/damage the original battery), soak remaining adhesive in small amount of IPA, after 5 mins this easily scraps off. I had an issue where the charger was connected but was not charging. Remove charger, press power button for 10 seconds, turn on again. Problem solved.

    The most difficult part is showing how to disconnect and you arent showing a closeup. If one doesn't know, they could seriously damage the connectors.

    I did it! Yay! MacBook Retina (early 2016) -- replaced the battery using your video as a guide (watched other videos but were not comfortable to start :/) One small tip: to remove the old adhesive, apply some alcohol then scrape it enough to lift it up then grab the tip and pull it slowly; similar to removing the adhesive on an iPhone's battery. The adhesive would come off with ease and cleanly.
    Thanks again!

    This video is actually trying to helps people but lacking in terms of knowledge in electronic repair. Especially in positioning the ribbon cable like that when disassembling the battery, a mistake can cause the cable to tear. for the example when disconnecting the trackpad cable, you have to disconnect the battery first by pressing the button. then use the correct equipment to remove the battery glue such as a plastic scrapper and alcohol, not by forcefully pulling the battery cell which could trigger a burning reaction.

    Soooo, what do you do if the battery starts to spark? I managed to remove the four cells on the sides, but when I went to remove to two center, side-by-side cells, one of them sparked. I’m reading online that this is very dangerous. Thinking I need to stop and take it to a shop? Ugh.
    UPDATE: I was able to swap the battery but the TP cable was disconnected and I have no idea where/how to reconnect that. There are no clear tutorials online for that part. Sadly, with the new battery installed, it won’t power on. I’m going to need a repair shop after all :/

      The best thing to do when removing any apple battery is to use copious amounts of 99% isopropyl alcohol on the underside of the batteries before prying in order to soften the glue. I would use almost triple the amount Andrew used here injected under the battery with a small syringe in order to prevent what you've just described. You always want to keep the battery intact, not rip it open and spark the lithium inside.
      If the battery sparked, then you've exposed the lithium in the cell, which (might have) shorted out the board if it touched the frame. I've seen it happen but rarely. The more probable scenario is that you've removed it and installed the battery but something is not plugged up properly. Chances are if you didn't pay attention and plug the trackpad cable back in, then you probably didn't screw the battery in underneath the board correctly either.

    1. Any other brand batteries which have a high (er) mAh and allows more cycle count?
    My Early 2015 MacBook has 3029 mah, and so far has 1,215 cycles (over the 1,000 apple say) so is due for a service.
    2. Will a battery with 5722 mAh (such as yours) last almost twice as long per charge? So that a 500 cycle battery (with 5722 mAh) will last almost the same as a 1,000 cycle battery (which has 3022 mAh) ?
    3029 * 2= 6058Mah
    6058 mAh - 5722 mAh = 33 mAh so the difference is not that much?

    I am having a problem quite strange. When i connect everything after have changed the battery, nothing happens (mac does not turn o, connecting to the charger the screen won't go on). If I disconnect the black cable connecting the two sides, the screen will go on and the battery starts charging. Its much easier to just replace the bottom case and move the motherboard and speakers over. No one should remove a battery the way you did. If you're going to do battery removal and replace, use isopropyl alcohol 95% or higher, and a heatpad to loosen the adhesive underneath, then using a flat plastic tool (i actually use plastic play cards), you can slice between the adhesive and metal frame.
