I liked how halfway through the trash talking turned into an emotion support group.

My favorite thing about Gura that people don't usually talk about is... she’s very perceptive. She has that instinct to look for given clues like the ladder cheese in this game. And despite being a known bonehead, she does well in puzzle games like when she collabed with Ina in Portal 2 and Kronster in Escape Simulator.

I think you're setting the bar pretty low if picking up on a strat that the game goes out of its way to hint at counts as very perceptive. In this very same stream she didn't think to investigate the hole the boulder made right in front of her eyes until after running into every dead end available.

A few minutes into her first Dark Soul games and she already gets it.
Getting to see this as a back-and-forth is so nice. It was SO fun watching them both live, so I extra appreciate being able to rewatch a condensed version of them both like this.

Fauna comparing the Witcher gameplay, being like the one action game that has a similar camera position, to Dark Souls, and trying to apply the same logic to it, is absolutely hilarious.
To be fair, back in 2011 if you didn't play Demons's Souls before it was the same experience for most people.
It was quite a funny comparison watching the fish and tree suffer, meanwhile a baby rock on the other side was just getting MOTIVIATED.

This was a really fun race, I just hope this doesn't make them not wanting to touch the game ever again. This game rewards you for taking your time and exploring the surroundings carefully, both things that get thrown out the window when you're racing.
Genuinely it kind of seems like the race has poisoned the well for Fauna in terms of experiencing the exploration side of the game. If so it's a shame as Dark Souls 1 is famous for it's level design, even among the rest of the souls series.

Runbacks are only an issue in DS2 imo. In DS1 the level design has enough shortcuts that outside of Bed of Chaos, there aren't any eggregious runbacks.
DS3 has a bonfire every 10 feet so runbacks barely even exist in that game, same for Elden Ring. Bloodborne isn't too bad either.
Runbacks in DS2 are cancer.

I could have sworn Fauna was one of the hololive girls who played Elden Ring. Luna, Flare, Pekora, Calli, IRyS, Gura. Even Kronii got incredibly far for a beginner in only one stream. Apparently the perms for Elden Ring is super annoying, having to refresh perms every month and the request is only processes on business days and having to stream at specific dates JST. There's a clip of Kronii talking about it. I wonder if it's similar for the other souls titles.

Watching this live with both streams open was a symphony of Fauna cry whining and Gooba whistle screaming. Music to my ears.
The witcher muscle memory hit me really hard when I played DS3 (my first souls game) after the witcher 3. Constantly sipping that estus when trying to reflexively light attacking.
This clueless Dark Souls stream really hit me with nostalgic. Despite I had many 3D game experience before dark souls, I still make all the hilarious stupid mistakes like them.

It would be fun if Gura and Fauna teamed up in a Seamless Co-op mod for Elden Ring collab, facing another pair... Maybe even having some interesting 'invasions' going on from time to time.
I know that you can set passphrases into games like Elden run but it doesn't guarantee you are linked at all times... Seamless co-op with invasion enabled to the same group would be funny to do challenge runs, with invasions enabled.
The Group can do a 4 hour timer with the goal of completing specific goals, since they could have a tough time beating main story quests.
Maybe clearing out the most 'set' dungeons/caves as possible? Even in the beginner areas there's like a dozen caves and dungeons to raid for goodies, with bosses in there. The challenge gets progressively harder as they complete more of it as the harder ones are further away.

me thinking, *how did these two not even reach the gargoyles in two hours?* completely brainfarting on the FACT that i spend the first 4 hrs of the game trying to figure out why the skeletons in the damn catacombs didnt stay dead....
I beat Demon's Souls SL1 melee only and I don't think I got to the gargoyles in under two hours 🤔 (but I am a super slow player and like to explore in the first playthrough)
I really hope Fauna gives Souls games another chance someday, Maybe not Dark Souls for now, maybe Elden Ring to slowly ease her in.

Sure, it was fun to watch and cheer on, but it’s hard for me to celebrate the fact that they essentially gave up experiencing one of the most engaging, intimate and atmospheric games and world for a throwaway contest.
gura hates souls like games, i think you just take this as a win, she didn't quit in frustration, she had fun. which means she might be willing to try one again in the future. fauna has never tried a souls like game before. she's always been intimidated by the genre. she also had fun, just take the W... who knows fauna might try one again.
Oh it looks like the seamless co-op mod allows you to enable PVP, and even set up teams...
So making it so HoloEN elden ring free for all, where players explore to get weapons and stuff, and try to be the strongest to kill a certain boss first, or stop each other?

from the first few minutes, I can already tell that as an avid soulsborne player, this will be internally painful to watch, purely because of the inbuilt need to give helpful tips to see them improve. But I'm sure they manage the three bosses in 2 hours, it's only up to gargoyles... right? (they just beat asylum in a little over 30 minutes... xD )
They in fact did not make it to gargoyles, and tbh I would like to see them do a, like, 24 hour bootcamp before they do their next run, just so they can perform a little better, or at least so they know more about the general mechanics of the game and how it controls.
Like, you could have Biboo and Calli be their mentors and teach them decent strats and such. idk man I think it'd be cool!
Who told them to race dark souls anyway? It should be bloodborne if you wanna race.
It should have been Dark Souls 2 or Elden Ring because they are more like boss rush games, especially Elden Ring. Maybe even Dark Souls 3 since it’s arguably the most accessible game to newcomers in terms of difficulty. DS1 was the worst option to try to do a race/speedrun on a first attempt. It’s slower and more clunky than its successors and there’s a lot you have to sit down and think about compared to the more linear DS3 or the open world Elden Ring.
