what a beaut they sure don't make them like that anymore. I really love the older reliable machines with no electronics.
Very cool! My granddaddy started logging w mules and finally small Ford tractors when I was a little fella. Mind blowing the equipment we have today compared to just 40 years ago

You can see a crawler/ hauler made by the Lamb Co. of Hoquiam Washington, at the Polson Museum in Hoquiam Washington. They were pioneers in logging and paper making machinery on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington state.

There were later lombard log haulers that could, in fact, be operated on roads; the skis on the front were substituted with wheels. These can be seen on youtube videos.
I would say The Loggers were Glad to see the First Crawler for Sure ..

I wonder if anyone ever added up how many people died operating a Caterpillar, even broken down by ratio of how many units produced vs. how many killed? HORNSBY in England was the "first" full crawler powered by gasoline, and Holt wouldn't have bought the clutch steer patent from them if they didn't count. Lombard was the first practical crawler as in factory production, sales and service when Holt was still "experimenting". A few lawyers got rich arguing who invented what, prior art, etc.

Wow! I wish someone had let my track equipped tractor know it could move and be maneuverable on ice and snow. Probably would have kept it from sliding across the ice and into my pickup!
They all work the same on snow and ice. Move forard and backwards. Plus they go sideways very fast if going across a hill

Typical American video. NO mention of the Hornsby -Ackroyd Crawler tractor made in England in 1896 which pre dates the Best and Holt tractors.
Boring fact. The operator of these were called Skinners just like mule or horse team operators were Skinners. Tracked vehicles were called Cats after caterpillar. The phrase "More than one way to skin a cat" has nothing to do with felines and it really means more than one way to run a tracked vehicle.
