A running toilet is extremely frustrating and annoying, especially at night. I hesitated to replace the flapper because I didn't want to make things worse. Your tutorial showed me how simple it was. It worked. No more running toilet. Thank you so much for your tutorial.
Thank you so much for this. I Went to home depot and purchased this flapper and followed your instructions Saved me money and IT WORKED . No more toilet running.
Thank you! I'm a single older woman and had no idea what or how to do this and my toilet was driving me nuts. Watched your video, within 2 mins left for Lowes, grabbed the exact one you had and followed your steps when i got home - 5 mins later, fixed - Thanks :) PS... hardest part was trimming the chain. haha
I concur. I very rarely post on TH-cam but I just had to. I’m not the most handy guy in the world but you empowered me to do it. A $6 item, 5 minutes of work, and a quiet toilet. I’m a happy camper! Thanks for such an easy step by step video!!
Thank you TH-cam for saving home owners hundreds of dollars for simple DIY fixes. It is almost criminal for plumbers to charge the rates they do to little old ladies for a 10 minute repair that will likely save them hundreds of dollars of dollars on wasted water bills.
Thank you. My toilet had been running, and then the chain broke. After I watched your video I bought the same flapper, followed your instructions, and fixed the problem.
Excellent tutorial! We replaced ours in a matter of 5 minutes. Great suggestions on how to check after if the flush is working properly( by cleaning toilet bowl)
Thanks for this. Saved me $100 by not calling the plumber. Just a $6.00 flapper...and that was the premium one! Easiest fix ever. Took more time to cross the street to my local Home Depot than it was to attach the new flapper. WOW!
I'm sure something else will need to be fixed in my home. Today it's my flapper. Thanks for the great video.I'll check your videos first before I need help!
Wow 9 years late but I been putting off not replacing the flapper lol and it literally took like 4 minutes. Thanks man I don’t need to manually lift the flapper anymore
I’m sooo excited. I’m going on 82(yes. Im a Virgo) and am not going with another nights sleep listening to a toilet. I’ve had enough of them in my life (🤦🏻♀️😜🤐) your video is The Greatest.
Wow this video was so helpful! I watched other videos and I replaced my flapper but it was still leaking faster than my old one! A little scrub down on the opening seemed to make it leak a lot less! Likes like it kinda just leaks drops now 😅
Replaced the flush valve and fill-valve (Fluidmaster) and the tank keeps filling/stopping randomly. No external leaks around tank but do see a slight trickle from tank to bowl. Thoughts?
Thank you. My wife gave me the look yesterday because 2 of 3 of our toilets are making noise and wasting water. Time for me to be a plumber I guess. I always have to check and make sure I'm insured well before that happens!
Great tutorial. Helped me replace my flapper with confidence. Just changed it today following these instructions. Yay, all is good again toilet wise :)
at 1:52 when you remove the old flapper there is this yellow thing attached to the chain above the flapper. I do not see this when you put the new flapper on. What is that and I presume it is not needed? Or did you forget to put it back on? Thanks.
This seemed pretty straightforward. The only thing not clear to me was when you said, let the water get to about 1 inch below the overflow tube. How do we control that? Thank you.
Wow that was easy. I just replaced the other valve today because my toilet kept making this screaming sound making me think that it was alway refilling. After replacing it still was making that sound which made me investigate the flapper closer and sure enough, if I press down on the flapper the toilet quits screaming. It's too late now but I'll run to the store after work tomorrow and buy a new 2" flapper.
I’m a single female and I was able to replace the flapper myself for $8 by watching your video :-) thank you so much for the quick and easy instructions!! (ie not manplaining lol jk!)
Awesome video, even more, thorough than the video by Roto-Rooter, which sort of surprises me. I like the technology that Microban offers, and I see it in tons of products all around nowadays. I could not quite understand how to remove the original flapper though, everyone makes it looks so easy and the last time I removed one I broke the darn peg off the side of the fill tube. :-/
I'm headed out to buy and fix my flapper. It seems a tiny silly detail that everyone seems to know what to do, but the chain part (trimming etc) has me unsure how to do that. I'm sorry that I need a visual or details.
I know flappers come in different sizes. How do you get the size of your flapper? Do you measure from the top of the flapper? Or do you pull the flapper up and measure the hole in the toilet? Thanks
Just had this issue. Instead of replacing the flapper, I cleaned it and the lip that it sits upon. Completely fixed the problem. No new flapper necessary
Really great video! But my flapper doesn't come off as easily as yours. My flapper hasn't any spaces, it completely encircles the horizontal post it's attached to. How do I remove this sucker? -- thanks
I just replaced the flapper because it keep trying to fill so must been leaking. It's not doing it anymore and learned something new (never had to do this before lol). Now I know more about toilet repairs instead of calling a plumber lol.
My toilet is from 1978 with what looks like a mini plunger in the tank. I drained the tank, lifted the plunger with one hand and took a finger around the underside of it and its mating surface on the toilet as well to hopefully remove any possible buildup that may be causing it to leak. Any suggestions?
So I have the same flapper but it’s on 1 instead of the max it can go. If I turn it to the max, will that help while flushing. I hate walking into my bathroom and the last persons bathroom trip didn’t go down all the way if your picking up what I’m putting down
My flapper valve is hard plastic and is attached with hard plastic to the overflow tube. Not rubber. How do I replace that? Or do I have to buy and replace a whole overflow tube with flapper? Thanks!
Great and easy instructions. I'm waiting for the plumber who replaced the fill valve and REUSED the flapper which must be ages old (more than twelve years, and possibly a decade more). Of course, the water was still leaking. I'm angry since he told me he could "repair" the flush, which I told him I could also, and then told him I wanted ALL NEW since my toilet is from the 1940's and I'm betting so was the old fill valve. Next time I'll replace the flapper myself, I think at 70 I can still manage to do better than the "39 years of experience" plumber. I'm betting rip off old lady, so she has to call again.
I have changed several over the years, But I just moved into a new place, the flapper keeps sticking open, but the flapper doesn't hook on to the tabs, they are hoops, and the tabs go through them, I can't get the flapper off, tried using needle nose pliers to pry it off, but it won't stretch enough, I think I might have to change the overflow tube as well.
Great video! Unfortunately, I replaced my flapper, but now I have to hold down the handle for a couple of seconds in order for the toilet to fully flush (whereas before I replaced the flapper, I didn't have to hold down the handle). I tried shortening the slack of the chain (so now it is very taut), but the problem is still occurring. Any suggestions?
Thank you so much, I fixed mine by myself, 64 yrs. Old disabled woman that's has no one to fix stuff for me....
5 stars for you
9-year old video still making a positive difference! Thank you for this video!

I’m in the same motion you’re in right now .
I am in this same situation 😅
Thank you so much for this. I Went to home depot and purchased this flapper and followed your instructions Saved me money and IT WORKED . No more toilet running.
Thanks for your amazing video. I’m a female and I followed your instructions and fixed my running toilet. Thank you’
I'm not used to repairing things so I was intimidated. You demonstrated how easy this repair is and I got it done. Thank you
Great video. Explained clearly but also left me feeling strangely positive and happy.
lol, glad to bring some cheer
hawaiidispenser Do you really dispense Hawaii??
This is one of the “best” home repair instructions on TH-cam! You’ve made several jobs so much easier! Thank you!💕💕💕
Thanks! so much :) I saved over $500 by doing it myself. A plumber told me to replace the whole toilet. What a rip off!
+Munal Salhotra wonderful, great job
Home Repair Tutor what's the purpose of the styrofoam float anyway? Why is it optional??
@@rmasco71 You can move the float up and down the chain to adjust the water usage.
Wtf? Probably a scam. No real plumber would suggest you replace an entire toilet unless the toilet was cracked or something.
@Dean Winchester they would when they are trying to get the most money out of you!! All trades do it because they are all greedy c*nts.
I helped my mom today, and this video worked wonders. $7 to fix our broken toilet!
Thank you! I'm a single older woman and had no idea what or how to do this and my toilet was driving me nuts. Watched your video, within 2 mins left for Lowes, grabbed the exact one you had and followed your steps when i got home - 5 mins later, fixed - Thanks :) PS... hardest part was trimming the chain. haha
For older toilets, with 20-25 year old gate turn off valves... that is the hardest part of such a job.
I concur. I very rarely post on TH-cam but I just had to. I’m not the most handy guy in the world but you empowered me to do it. A $6 item, 5 minutes of work, and a quiet toilet. I’m a happy camper! Thanks for such an easy step by step video!!
That struck me as the hardest part
Thank you TH-cam for saving home owners hundreds of dollars for simple DIY fixes. It is almost criminal for plumbers to charge the rates they do to little old ladies for a 10 minute repair that will likely save them hundreds of dollars of dollars on wasted water bills.
Thank you. My toilet had been running, and then the chain broke. After I watched your video I bought the same flapper, followed your instructions, and fixed the problem.
This video is "Suggesting" my install video. A rising tide lifts all flappers, keep it up!
Lol 👍🏼
Excellent tutorial! We replaced ours in a matter of 5 minutes. Great suggestions on how to check after if the flush is working properly( by cleaning toilet bowl)
Thanks for this! After watching the video I was able to fix the running toilet that has been plaguing me for months. So easy!

Wow! Your instructions are so simple and clear. Thank you so much.
Very well done, short, concise, and thorough. Subscribing.

Thank you so much! Headed to get a new flapper today!
Wow this video was so helpful! I watched other videos and I replaced my flapper but it was still leaking faster than my old one! A little scrub down on the opening seemed to make it leak a lot less! Likes like it kinda just leaks drops now 😅
Thank you so much! I watched this video and changed the stopper in under 5 minutes! Why did I take a year to do this? No more safety pins!!
Great tutorial. Very clear and concise!
Thanks! You gave me the courage to do it myself, even though the valve to turn off the water would not budge! I just worked fast 😂
Got my toilet fixed in no time! Thanks for the tips :)
Replaced the flush valve and fill-valve (Fluidmaster) and the tank keeps filling/stopping randomly. No external leaks around tank but do see a slight trickle from tank to bowl. Thoughts?

Too funny, my hubby tried to figure it out and I spent time researching and fixed our issue !
Every man knows “the look” 🤣🤣

This was great. I'm thinking you saved me some real cash today. Thank you, Jeff!

Just replaced ours. Thanks!! I had been dreading it for months. Time will tell if it worked 😂
Thank you for making the videos. I was wondering how much do you charge a customer for doing this in California
I hear my toilet dripping inside and then it will flush water on its own. I’ll replace flapper this week! Thank you for the video!
Well explained and seems very easy to replace I hope this works for my kids toilet
I’m a single female and I was able to replace the flapper myself for $8 by watching your video :-) thank you so much for the quick and easy instructions!! (ie not manplaining lol jk!)
Thank you! Saved me a lot of money
Thank you. It was straight to the point and easy.

I AGREE! THE FLAPPER WOULD NOT SLIDE OFF AND I HAD TO USE AN EXACTO KNIFE TO CUT IT OFF OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE BROKEN THE. HOW DID YOU HANDLE THAT?
I'm headed out to buy and fix my flapper. It seems a tiny silly detail that everyone seems to know what to do, but the chain part (trimming etc) has me unsure how to do that. I'm sorry that I need a visual or details.
Thank You. I fixed it! Very pleased with me thanks to you.

Good instruction, but I'm not sure how to remove the excess chain (if there is any). Gonna try it now. Thanks.
New subcriber. You look so much like the star in the movie An American Werewolf in London
Well that was easy thank you so much. I had a leftover Husky brand and never been used and it constantly leaked.
Really great video! But my flapper doesn't come off as easily as yours. My flapper hasn't any spaces, it completely encircles the horizontal post it's attached to. How do I remove this sucker? -- thanks
😊 great video. Easy pea dry.
You made this seem easy. Thank you in my way to Home Depot 💪🏻
Superb video! Learned a lot and gave us confidence !
I just replaced the flapper because it keep trying to fill so must been leaking. It's not doing it anymore and learned something new (never had to do this before lol). Now I know more about toilet repairs instead of calling a plumber lol.
Thanks for posting this video. It was an immense help.
+sco703 glad it helped :D
Great explanation
I did itttt!! Thanks!! 🎉
Thank you for making it look so easy. I can do it now.

Excellent. Thank you!!!
My flapper valve is hard plastic and is attached with hard plastic to the overflow tube. Not rubber. How do I replace that? Or do I have to buy and replace a whole overflow tube with flapper? Thanks!
Thanks! Completely fixed my problem. God bless.
Thanks a lot. Just did it and it fixed the leak. Was very easy
Hello, I followed your instructions, but the water still leaking from the tank. What is wrong? Thanks
$7 and 5 minutes for me vs $75 to $200 for plumber.
Thank you.
Great video!

+Carmen Ortiz that would be a shame if the plumber was thinking that. It is a bit mystifying why they would replace the flapper 😳

hurray!! I did it! Thanks much.

My problem is i cant seem 2 find the right flapper 4 my toilet. But atleast now i know how many gallons r flushed by my toilet. Tnx 4 that info.

Thanks! Great video! Going to ACE now to get one.
