    Looking at tombs by hand is indeed very time consuming, which is why most modern archaeologists look at them by eye.

      I am informed by my friend Joe (an archaeologist) that He finds removing dust and sediment with his eyelashes tedious; but, hey, to each their own.

    The Orkney Islands has a crapload of ruins you can view from Google Maps. Really interesting to explore!

    If I had stayed in Archaeology I might have migrated to Satellite Analysis. I loved the real science of excavation (and dug quite a few burials), but there are things you can just see from the air or space that save so much time on the ground.

    I hope archaeologists are planning on excavating and exploring these tombs, too, not just stopping at satellite mapping. Yes, it takes time, but it always has and it yields important and interesting information you can’t get anywhere else!

    idk why they chose sci show of all channels but theres a ton of bots spamming links to some dodgy, probably nsfw sites all throughout the comments. If you see them, probably try report them

    Have they considered that the stuff is clustered based on how well you can transport things there? It seems like the simple explenation. You need to get into those hills. Not every path is gonna be equally easy. Once there is a easy path found you use that till it's full. Or any other reason

    Can this process be utilized in recognizing formations or structures on other planets in habitable zones of their star system?

      From the time that flag had been planted to present, satellite imagery has exponentially improved with ever advanced technology.
      By the way, that flag can not now be seen even if you were standing next to where it was planted due to deterioration by solar bombardment.

      Almost every tomb worth robbing has been robbed already. Tomb robbers are not that much of an issue nowadays.

      Most tombs aren’t dug up, but are destroyed by development. We can either dig and preserve them, or just let them get destroyed.

    Today's graves will show a Timex or two, nose and nipple rings, some dentures, some stents which will thought of as ornamental and maybe a toe ring the mortuary attendant missed. Q: will the Timex still be ticking?

      Wouldn't most of today's graves simply contain ash? Cremation seems to be the most favored practice of getting rid of Grandpa's Leftovers these days.

      @@lonestarr1490 That depends on the religious beliefs of the person. And their location. Cremation is very rare for Muslims but routine for those of Hindu faith.

      @@Azzarinne Most likely the current reason, but they stopped them 2 years ago, a bit before covid. They were going to revamp the rules and setup an actual scoring format for them but then they never reappeared. They recently did the Fossil Feud: Eons Vs Scishow one and would love to see a Quizshow over zoom like that.

    Most people are getting cremated today though. Is it true? Take, say, around 8 billion people on the planet, and then within the scientific max life span of say 150, and you can graph the average life spans and how many people are passing away and leaving behind their remains, then, how many tombs would there be on the planet, and what would be their sizes, and where would you put them all?
