Just a quick tip..next time you smoke fish, pull it out of the brine and let it air dry till it forms a tacky “Pellicle” so the smoke can adhere to the fish better.
recipe for carp. place fillets on a wet piece of cedar plank. season to taste . grill for 40 minutes at about 350. remove from grill. throw fillets in the garbage and eat the cedar plank.
When we were kids we lived a block from peshtigo river. We would fill buckets up with suckers to give away to old ppl. They would grind them into sucker Pattie’s.
"A lot better than what I was expecting..." _only takes 1 small ass bite_ Must have expected it to taste like 3 day old summer skunk carcass or some shit
Normally when we pull fish from a brine we rinse it and dry it before putting it in the smoker. I definitely think you over smoked it, but you’re at least on to something here. How were the bones?
Hey Murray, you are awesome for trying smoking Carp. I never have yet.... I do have a tip for filleting fish with big scales. When you start at the head just angle the knife back under the scales and it will cut easily, instead of trying to cut through the scales.
Extremities bleed alot and hurt for quite awhile. Feels like your thumb has a heartbeat. Good thing you had a first aid kit. Always good to clean them cuts and prevent more dirt getting into it.
East tip, use your finger and push under lower gill and pop the area below the gills to bleed out, you’ll be able to feel the soft spot. What we do ocean fishing in Cali. Meat is meat my g
I bury mine in rock salt in a deep pan and add water to just cover . Let the water evaporate and chip the fillets out of the salt . Then I rinse and soak in fresh cold water for 8 hours . Keep them as cold as possible ! Rinse again and roll them in brown sugar and then into the smoker for 3 hours @ 140 degrees , then cold smoke for 12 hours . I find apple wood does the best job .
I know I'm tardy to the party, but dude, microwave the brown sugar for like 15-45 seconds and you don't have to use so much energy to make it soft, pro tip ;) love the videos by the way, following mav a long time, and just recently seen your channel, so subbed! keep it up and gonna go finish the video, BTW today's my birthday, and love having something to watch. thank you for your content.
In the 1970's everyone it seems had an old fridge that they used to smoke carp and I think suckers too in. They would leave the racks inside to put the fish in and have a put in the bottom for the fire. These were fridges with no freezer in side.and a big door. We used the door from one of our fridges as a sled for trapping and later when my dad didn't trap anymore we used the fridge door as a sled.
good clip , I've had smoked carp that was from lake Michigan, surprisingly good. Was told the ones that live in cold water are best. Hello to Hays, used to work with him.
Dude when you cut your thumb my fricking right thumb started throbbed, no joke. Hope it's doing good and not infected or to seriously deep. Thanks for the awesome content
Can you do long sleeve shirts by any chance.I’d be all over that .not a big fan of t shirts.sweaters I’ll get and I’ve done.bot your Nintendo hoodie, love it.just a suggestion..thanks for the vids I love them keep them coming.
Next time try rinsing the brine off well, dry it off and let the fish sit in the air for an hour or two. This is how I do mine and it’s a very important step. Good on ya for trying carp though not sure I would 😂.
used to catch carp for a guy in our neighborhood and he used to smoke em and I was sketched out about eating it until I tried it ..it was pretty frickin good
Murray, have you ever done a survival day with a catch and cook using one lure from your tackle box? That would make for a cool video. Another video idea could be using your moms or sisters tackle box to survive off of for a weekend. Making do with whatever they have in them.
Sunshine sunshine, it's fine I feel it in my skin, warmin' up my mind Sometimes you gotta give in, to win I love the days when it shines Whoa, let it shine
Ouch, I couldn't watch your cut on the corn can! We'd love to host you the next time you come to the Twin Cities! We have a few beautiful fans who would love to meet and giggle with you! :)
If you can, keep the carp alive in a clean water container for a few days, change the water regularly, it will take away the earthy bad taste they have.
This doesn't matter too much since you plan on smoking the carp, but if you put the carp in a kiddy pool for like 24 to 48 hours, you flush all the nasty grit outta the fish. It actually creates a silt in the kiddy pool. It makes them taste better.
Get you a 10 to 15 pound Carp or Buffalo score it and cut into Rib pieces and deep fry them ribs on Carp and Buffalo is hard to beat just seasoned to your liking use your favorite fish fry

Put your brown sugar in the microwave for a few minutes and it will soften up. Never had carp…but you seem to be on point with your cooking!
