    You adjust the width of the mortise by having the black handle down and there’s a plate with two bolts next to the handle,the chain is 16mm and set the adjustable plate at what ever size you need the mortise to be minus 16mm,do the first cut push the handle up to the stop and cut again.The chain always lines up with the end of the yellow indicator. Cheers

    I believe the yellow tab is for alignment. Just draw your pencil line up to the yellow tab beyond the pocket, make it reach the yellow tab. Then when you move the cutter, you know where your cutter is.
    The yellow tab represent the cutter width and position.

    This machine looks well worth the money in my opinion. Atleast compared to the competitors.

    I have a Makita trim router and a Makita biscuit cutter. You mentioned the problem that you could switch on the chain mortise if you don't pick it up using the top handle. Both my Makita tools have a similar problem - the switches are located in such a way that the tool is easily turned on when picking it up. Bad designs. I wonder if Makita has ever gotten into trouble for this (yet).

  • @johnbauby6612
    @johnbauby6612 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How do you like the Makita? I have a friend who uses only Mafell and another who uses Swisspro and they are suggesting that double the price for their tools is worth it.

      I guess it's one of those things, you get what you pay for. You can ride down the street in a Ford or a Chevy. Or you can ride down the street in a Cadillac. I chose the Chevy. They both/all do the same thing, make mortises. I like mine. I've had it many years and have done lots of mortises. I just recently sent my chain out to be sharpened. First time for that.

    • @johnbauby6612
      @johnbauby6612 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JimRogers117 The fact that you have used the Makita for a while without issue speaks volumes. I agree with the get what you paid for adage but sometimes there are well made things that don't require triple the price. Sometimes a Chevy will do just fine.
      I cringe to think that I need to drop so much more on the top of the line because the less expensive versions won't cut it. Cutting them all by hand is a chore but so is throwing away money on a tool that breaks after a month of use. Feedback appreciated and thanks for the vid.

    Could you use this tool to mortice into an upright post. I have about 2km of post and rail fencing to do with the rails mortised into 150mm x 150mm square posts. Will the clamp be strong enough to hold on the post in an upright position. Any advice would be appreciated before i fork out $3k (Aussie dollars) or so for one of these. Thanks in advance.

    I purchased this Makita morticer and am working with green heart. I am not really having much luck with it because it keeps biting and kicking really bad. Any tips? I really can't think that I am doing anything wrong am thinking it may just be that the timber is so dense.

    The back side of the chain when it is thrown to the other side is predetermined by the depth of the throw set by the bolt next to the throw handle.
