Due to the wide topography motor, it's got a little more motor force versus those you've tested so far. People bash Skar, but they have overall good products. This one will have much better output over the others tested at this point, but lack a bit of sound quality. Did an installation with 2 of these last year for a local guy, built him a sealed enclosure in a single cab, on a small Stinger mono... was nice overall. Good video man! 👍
I have the Sundown SLD 10 which is basically a shortened SA 10. It’s venting is between the motor and frame. Gives it an advantage for shallower mounting. But it’s also 3 times more money. I have one running ported off a kicker 800.1 and its been great. Would be a great side by side comparison for you.
just put 1 of these under the seat in my 22 silverado hd. 2ohm sub wired to 1ohm on the small skar rp350.1amp. fits under there perfectly and added exactly what i was looking for to the factory bose system. happy with it
Iv got the sub but in the 12 in model in a seald box with a dayton audio 500w amp plate as a powed house sub. Sounds go but seems like it does want more power. 😊 not bad for 80$ sub
@@HiFiVector I can send you a Skar VS-10 D2 to test .... not happy with it at all... does not handle 500watts RMS..... it just doesn't give enough bass to even notice it. Sealed enclosure, ran at 2 ohm in a wagon ... maybe to big a space for it but I was not happy about it at all
They used a regular 4 spoke basket i need one if these 12 inch baskets or a basket with 110 mm bolt pattern for a kicker comp r 12 motor also have a 12 L7s kicker motor that needs a 127 mm bolt pattern basket wich are way way more common

I have a used 4 spoke 12" basket, with the 6x127mm I'm sure. The 6x110mm is gonna be harder to find in the 4 spoke, from most all vendors. I did have quite a few of the 12 spoke with the 110mm pattern, but I think I've sold them all. I can check though.
the vd series is too wide and the sub does not have enough lip to mount to a box , you can barely get some screws to hold it down, look at tge vs series.
1000 true watts would be good. If you are looking to push them harder to get the most you can do 1500 true watts just keep an eye on them and know your setup.
For the 10s probably no more than 1200. I have 2 12s and they eat 1500 and love it. They slam for being “shallow” and people get annoyed.. They shake my windows, seats and headliner, mirrors and toolbox in the back of my truck. People said they could feel their seats in the other car shaking lol Don’t let anyone tell you these don’t slam the VD is the truth if space is compromised
you do not want venting on the bottom of a shallow mount subwoofer how is it gonna cool If it’s sitting on the bottom of the wood I guess I didn’t think about that did they
Exactly what Josh said. If your sub's back plate is too close to the rear wall of the enclosure, I guess you picked the wrong subwoofer, or you built/ bought the wrong enclosure, with inadequate mounting depth.
@@livebig6414 typically you'll want about an inch to an inch and a half between the pole vent, and the rear wall of the enclosure. I hope that helps you out.
@@Chuck_Sanders never said it wasn't. Better question is why is it the most commonly damaged? @@kylevanwinkle2081 because most individuals getting into car audio, or those on a budget, buy a lot of Skar products, due to the brand being more budget friendly. And then, like most newbies and or those that are uneducated on how transducers work, will ask way too much of said speakers. They over power them, or crank the bass boost, or clip the subwoofer with a dirty signal, or try running more power than their electrical can support.. all of which causes added and unwanted heat, to the adhesive of the coil and so forth. Most subwoofers can take 10 times their rated power in bursts, but not continously, with little to no harm at all, in almost all cases. Any speaker will do exactly what you tell it to do, in the environment you put it in, because it doesn't know any better.. up to the point of destroying itself. Thank you. And I think Skar stuff is great personally as well.
This sub just came out like a month or 2 ago .edit I was thinking the new skar vs very shallow model they just came out with.

So it’s 1 “ deeper then most then you have to add more depth cause it’s rear vented. So what part of this is shallow mount ?
Very nice sub for a shallow mount

It's kinda cheating for being a shallow mount sub. It won't fit in most truck boxes. But I've tried a pair in 2.5 cubes ported and they sounded great.
Could you do a DS18 IXS 10’’
loved the sub the only problem is the lip of the sub its too small and the subwoofer is too wide you can barely mount it on any box.
I had to modify the box i bought for these subs. They absolutely slap with a tuned ported box with 800 clean rms
Great video
Thanks!

It's not gonna physically touch the inside of the box there will be at least a inch of space if there's not u got the wrong box.

When you're pretty new to car audio, this is a common misconception. That's a rookie builder problem, not a driver problem.
