fairly safe play for civs your not familar with is to go towards their unique unit/what type of civ the game says it is (especially with your love of castle drops!) e.g italians have genoese crowsbows so upgrading your archer line should be a safe bet and then allows you to have an even more powerful unique unit, team mate had persians so expect him to go into cav which could complement your archer civ quite well as your archers can pick off spears and likewise his cav can pick off cav coming after your archers/push opponent archers, between dark and feudal age might be worth looking at the tech tree for a glance at what your team mate + opponents civs are listed as/their unique units to have an idea of what they'll likely go for (can do the same in 1v1 if you don't know what opponent's civ is good at)
Yeah. I almost always forget about my unique unit until around Castle or Imperial Age. And then I'm like what is my special unique unit lol. But knowing what my and my opponent special unit definitely something I need to work on. Thanks for the advice.
When the light cav was attacking your farms, you should have also used all those villagers to attack them. Woulda killed them faster and saved you a few vills.
I usually make Men at arms when I start to panic or run out of idea's. I never no what there good for expect maybe against certain special units. I remember when I was a kid I use to think they as champions where the best units in the game before I learnt what counters are.

Ment at arms are not that good vs horses. Spearmen vs horses, horses vs archers, archers vs spearmen
