On most devices it works just on an old MacBook from 2010 it doesn't work. I don't want to delete it just for testing as it contains tens of thousands of mails that will be deleted. Will this work definitely on all my devices if I delete the account completely and replace it with the new password?
This didn't work for me. I had to set my default browser to Chrome. Then go back into settings and re-add my google account. After the verification process it didn't give me the error code. I was able to re-add my Gmail account to mail.

somehow Facebook, yahoo and all the other apps will let me add my email but not the google app. I also noticed I don't have an app password....can you help me??
As of Feb 2024 it is no longer 'App passwords' but now 'Passkeys and security keys' fyi for others. Passkeys should work on any Mac device regardless if you have fingerprint, face or screen lock or not, to get you sorted with Gmail.
this method didn't work for calendar app as it only gave me the choice to choose to sync mails and notes no calendar do u know why, is there a setting in gmail or google account that i need to check and enable
