For the purpose of accuracy, "It Might Be You," the theme to Tootsie, was written by Dave Grusin, with lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman. Stephen breathed life into the song, and with his lyrical voice contributed to making it a classic.
Save It For A Rainy Day, one of my faves...❤❤haven't heard in many years, just recently in the grocery store and a warmth filled my heart and a smile on my face, thank you😁🙋♀️🙏
For me, Stephen Bishop and Gerry Rafferty are great inspiration and fabulous examples of the ultimate songwriter. Their chord changes and melodies alone can evoke so much emotion, then add the lyrics on top of it all, and it could just about bring me to my knees. Definitely on a Stephen Bishop kick this evening!
I saw him play at McCabe's Guitar Store in Santa Monica many, many years ago. Not only was he a great performer but he had us with tears in our eyes from laughing. Stephen is an amazing talented guy who influenced my life with his music. Thank you Stephen!
It's due to Stephen Bishop, Paul McCartney, David Gates, John Denver a few others, it's players like these who got me interested in writing my own songs at the age of 16 in 1976. I started with the piano at the age of 4 in 64, but at 15 in 1975 (after the Beatles had broken up for years), I caught late Beatlemaina and started playing the guitar. It wasn't long before guys like Stephen Bishop helped me find the interest in writing and performing my own songs. Through my lonliest times traveling around the world in The Army for ten years, or traveling on my own afterwards, it's those songs I wrote and sang that brought people to me and helped me in ways that were so special they still are in the front of my memory. And, it.all started with a song Stephen Bishop wrote that I think called Madge (Madge I loved then and I loved you now). It was different, unconventional, and the finger picking was very good. So, thanks to Madge whoever she was and to Stephen Bishop for the beautiful heartfelt music he played and for his instilling in me a desire to do the same. I may not have ever made it to his level, but it sure paved the way to many people and places I would have never met or been if Stephen Bishop didn't sort of give me a nudge.
I've always loved Stephen Bishop. My only brush with him was at the Blue Note in Osaka, Japan when he asked for requests for an encore tune. I yelled out, "Play a medley!" He looked at me and said, "That's a good idea," and played one.
But if if he has to fill a set, why would he do a medly? No star performer is going to do that. Ask springsten to do a medley while he is in concert! Lol
@@gregb7595 "he asked for request for an ENCORE tune" Encores happen AFTER the set is done. The set was already filled. So, it is plausible that a performer would do such a thing. Respectfully.
He sounds so good.. It heals my heart.. It Might Be You reminds me of when my mom would take my sister and I in the back year to play in the pool and sprinklers back when we were kids. I think I was like six, and that was the summer of 82. I was just back in the same spot with mom discussing where she wants to put down some patio tiles and a grill.. I'm eternally blessed to still have my mom and the house in my life. That song brings back feelings of joy and innocence, and the fact that I still had so many years to enjoy with my family.
Thanks Vicki! Very cool. I was so honored to meet Stephen at his Westwood Music show when I lived in LA. He’s on of my all time favorite singer songwriters.
On and on ,and all of my life ! Actually I like them all ! I like to listen to lyrics and what they say and how iam feeling when i hear a song 🎵 songs 👍
I once heard Stephen sing with the Fab Four ( the amazing Beatles tribute) and he killed the most amazing earlyJohn Lennon tribute I've ever heard! Stephen... please talk about it... It was really Something (to use a Beatleism).... Killed it at the House of Blues Hollywood... I'm a Beatles fan, and recreator, and this dude hit it out of the park.......
Have always thought It Might Be You was his best..BUT they are all so good. Everybody Needs Love (harmony: why wait around for the sunshine, don't you worry, love will find you in time). He's good! He would do well as a duet w/ Jennifer Warnes also...would like to hear that.
In the movie Animal House it was Steven Bishop that was sitting on the steps with the guitar in his hand when John Belushi grabbed it from him and smashed it and then said, "Sorry."
Great song writer and I love his voice!
