Duke vs. North Carolina is the first 2025 Final Four matchup while UConn vs. Purdue is the second 2025 Final Four game. Can Purdue or UConn win a national title in 2025?
No one talks about how Purdue lost its starting center 1 minute into the second game of the year and Painter had to change his lineup and offense to make everything work.
I was coming here to say the exact same thing. This season has been a masterclass in revamping your entire playbook while missing a pretty critical piece. The turn around between the beginning of December and the end of December is just poetry in motion.
Totally!! Especially after injecting Furst into lineup for boards, tuffnees, distracting people.
Painter saw talent in Zach and Braden where other coaches had no idea. One turned into 2 time POY and the other is the best point guard in the nation with another year to go. Culture, talent development and a huge offensive playbook has separated Painter from 99% of other D1 coaches.
@gtfiato Braden was the HS player of the year in Indiana but painter did recognize his talent early on.
Best PG in the nation is a bit of a stretch. I would argue that Chucky Hepburn is the PG in the country. He just doesn't have the same level of talent around him
@@saviorself1164ur funny. Braden is the best point guard without a doubt
@@danfromqueens659but no major offers.
Compared to Brad Underwood always giving excuses, Matt painter is 100 times better
Crazy thing is Purdue only loses Caleb Furst next year and gets our stud Frosh back from injury.
Yes but how about some respect for Trey Kaufman Renn? He should also be in the discussion for B10 POY.
He isn't the best player on his team. When your the obvious #2 on your own team, he isn't going to get that recognition
@@Dejusticedyep - but he is the leading scorer on the team
@@Dejusticedalso TKR is the 4th most efficient player in college basketball. He shoots over 60% on field goals despite still averaging 19 ppg. The fact he wasn't even put on the top 10 watch list for PF or C is HILARIOUS when you look at the other names
@ That's debatable that he is obvious #2. More like #1A and #1B in terms of production.
Nice to field some respect from the FO68 crew. Thank you. Just like Uconn can't be counted out until they are dethroned, Purdue can't be counted out of the B1G when Braden/Fletch/TKR are on the roster until someone dethrones them. Don't make the same mistake next year when IU's new coach pays a bag to a great NIL team, and Izzo and Underwood are overrated again.
Boiler Up!!
Damn right👏👏👏👏👏👏
I think CMP is up there with the best in the business with Self, Few etc. that you can put them on some coach of the year list. They’re just awesome coaches that do it year in and year out, but you can’t give every award to these guys so it does become the award for who does the most with the least expectations. I’m fine if Paint never wins another coach of year cause it means Purdue has sunk so low that no one expects them to do anything. No thanks!
Painter has never once won a SINGLE National Coach of the Year awards. He has ZERO of them, so you already sound dumb as rocks. "He can't win every single one". He's never won it ONCE you cretin. And Painter is not on ANY of those lists. He does what he does putting education first with a 99% graduation rate; he doesn't bring players in based on talent. He gets kids that are graded as literal scrubs. Edey and Braden weren't even ranked in the top 400 players coming out of high school - let alone 90% of the other players he brings in. He gets players that the analysts say have zero talent. He has gotten ZERO high school all Americans to play at Purdue over 20 years. They don't want him and he doesn't want them - cuz they don't buy into him as a coach and he cares more about other stuff than "talent" when he recruits. He lost his starting center in game 2 this year and Purdue eventually got to a point where they are ranked 7th in the nation and look as good as anyone after he tinkered with a bunch of different line ups. You put him in a group with coaches he does NOT belong with. Guys like Bill Self has teams CHOCK FULL with high school all Americans - any coach in the world could succeed with the talent they get via recruiting. Painter and Purdue don't get that and yet he STILL gets Purdue up there consistently every single year. Painter and those coaches are NOT the same and they never will be. Putting them in the same category is uneducated.
I think COY is a 2 horse race between Pat Kelsey and Mark Pope. I dont see those 2 coaches, who had to build their rosters from scratch, losing out to a coach who had most of a Final Four team come back. I just dont see it happening. I think Painter will win B1G COY though
The Wreck’em Tech hat steals the show
Pitino should be Coach of the Year..and it’s not close
It's close.
Clear your throat Hansbrough!
Rick Petino. You listening North Carolina?
Why wouldn’t it be Rick Barnes?
Rick Pitino wants a word…
I am biased as a Purdue fan but Rick is freaking amazing. He literally wins everywhere and his teams play hard. He also doesn’t age IU as crazy as it sounds should take a look. With the NiL (he will use it right to build a team) it maybe unstoppable.
St. Johns was my sleeper team before they beat UConn. Now everyone will be looking out for Pitino's team in March. I see them Final 4. Go Purdue.
Unfortunately Petino is a sleaze ball and Painter is all class. Petino has a history of shady crap. Painter does it right.
@@dlaird8 spell his name right. Don’t disrespect the king.
What about Dusty May? He doubled Michigan's wins from last year already!
I love Dusty May, but our coach Pat Kelsey, took a Louisville program that went a COMBINED 12-52 with Kenny Payne, massively worst than where you guys were
Louisville cheated to beat Michigan in 2013 and had to vacate wins. Michigan was the rightful National Champion. I am surprised by how far you fell too. Good point
with portal players? please
@ That makes it more impressive imo
Rick Petino is more deserving
Ummmm Purdue was picked to win the B1G in the preseason polls. If there’s 1 coach in the B1G that should be in the running, based on preseason expectations, it’s Greg Gard. Coaches like Rick Pitino and TJ Otz are way ahead of Painter. And Jon Scheuer? The dude had how many top 50 recruits, including the #1 player in the country, come in? If he’s NOT winning a bunch of games he should be fired.
What?! Is this a real person? Yeah Petino the cheater. So great. Cheated at Kentucky and Louisville. How is he not banned at this point? Otz I agree with.
Yes USC national powerhouse 💀
Guy scored 9 points on terrible shooting today and pick this game to talk about about he is in the running for player of the year. What are we talking about. Yes he controlled the game, yes he had a ton of assists. Yes we can talk about him as the best PG in the nation, but Player of the Year??
He had 13 ast
Lol, u obviously didn’t watch it, everything in the game goes through him. Go watch a different sport

9 points and 13 assists is 35 POINTS PRODUCED. Not only that but they were no-look, bullet, circus passes. We haven’t seen anyone play like Braden Smith
Um, NO. Pat Kelsey should win coach of the year. Taking a Louisville program that went 4-28 and then 8-24 in the TWO YEARS with Kenny Payne. 17-6 currently, with more wins to come, it SHOULDN'T be a question who wins coach of the year. At least MINIMUM, he deserves ACC Coach of the Year. They better not give Jon Schyer that award or I'll be FURIOUS
Lol
It should be your ex coach Pitino
Anyone associated with Louisville shouldnt get an award for another 50 years for the cheating in the past. Michigan was the 2013 champions. F Petino and Louisville.
lol that is NOT the same UofL team as last year. In the portal era it's significantly easier to take over year 1 at a failed program than rebuilding from the previous year.
