if you have a player that instintivly turns his head on the short hop make them wear a catchers mask until they break the habit. turn your head with a mask and get it in the side of the head. it's a good tool.
my 8 year old son plays first base in a 9-10 year old league. He plays with a 11.5 inch regular glove. I noticed that hardly any of the other first basemen in the league use a first base mitt eather. at what age do you recommend a kid should start using a first base mitt? Is it something I should invest in now?
+Damon Brown you could invest in one really soon. I am a highschool first baseman, and I got my first first base mitt when I was in 9u. So it wouldn't be a bad idea to pick one up asap
@@alphie6298 HIS THROW IS EASIER TO 2B. TO GET THE DP. ALL IS BASED ON A TENTH OF A SECOND. THEY ALL RUN SUB 7.0 IN THE SIXTY. ONE SS RUNS A 6.3 SIXTY. IT IS NOT CHILDREN'S BASEBALL. i wouldnt say its preferred....its more of a case that they wont let a lefty play anywhere else in the infield. pitching, 1st base or outfield are a lefty's options.
@@RichCordrey but reading a ball off a bat is so much different than a throw...idk maybe have a few players throw for him and rotate? I'm obviously not a coach at IMG but seems like it might lead to bad habits on ground balls, IMHO.

When playing first base you should never use two hands when catching. I'm a righty so the only time I use my right hand at first is to throw and to break my fall when diving
Well, with a coach complimenting like that you will be improving every minute! Great coaching 👏👏👏
It is a much easier game when you have a perfect field like that.
David Waldron yea must be harder in rec
@@caarlisle6301 dude I play rec 12U and its really hard
Yes a perfectly level, groomed infield makes it easier
Technique remains the same, right?
Or turf
Why doesn't this guy have 7 million subs. There amazing.
I agree mainly because this channel is for baseball. theirs no like hit lyrics or drugs involved lmao so this channel is for athletes only.
Glad I'm a lefty, makes my job a little easier.
Devin Plays it All lucky you in a righty
Evan C lefty are better first baseman
Zarz not really all the time both can be equally as good theres plenty of righty first basemens out there

Hahahaha JD isn't seeing the ball when it enters the glove.
I am a Left hand is that good for a first baseman am I right
kitten boy 70799 yup, just keep your left leg on the base and just rotate your body to where the ball the is going
I Ghostfaces I thanks
Someone show the pirates this video
Why does he use a fungo bat from that angle?
Idk
He's simulating throws from fielders. Instead of punishing his arm throwing hard over and over, he's using the bat to get good speed on it.

Such a big organization and you don’t have any first basemen Lefty’s come on pitiful
This is good but anyone catching should use 2 hands
mississippi fishing no you don't use 2 hands at all when you play first base
It helps for you to stretch out more towards the ball to catch it quicker and get a better chance at beating the runner
