Great and informative video! I have two cartwheel penny coins in my collection. Although mine are very worn, they are such fascinating coins and I am glad to have them in my collection!

There is a lot of information about these coins. They were produced by Matthew Boulton in Soho Birmingham. A lot of people seeing Soho on the reverse immediately assume this was the London place of that name. The penny weighs an ounce whilst the twopence was 2 ounces. In 1997 there was an attempt to pay tribute to this lovely coin and one firm (I can't remember who it was now ) recreated the machinery that Matthew Boulton would have used and had a go knocking out be-centenary pieces but after minting a small number of coins the shear weight of this machinery broke the die and that was the end of that venture, but it says a lot for Matthew Boulton back then being able to supply the coins and keep up with demand. He also produced the halfpenny and farthing with corresponding weight. Boulton also produced many private tokens for firms like the Pars Mining Company and again, the coinage is very distinctive as he did a series for this firm based in Angelsey in Wales and this was a bulky coin like the 'cartwheels' which he produced in 1787 & 1790 both penny and half penny, collectors will know these when they see them as the series featured on the obverse a very convincing Druid's Head and on the reverse, the company's very ornately interlaced initials PMC. I can remember the time when you could go into the, Birmingham Bull Ring Market where virtually anything could be found and many sellers had huge bowls full of all sorts of coins and you could find these and the 'cartwheels' in all conditions for just a few pence. Just a few things I remember about Matthew Boulton and the 'cartwheel' coinage.

@@TheCoinRealm I have only just discovered coins on Utube, and I like your section here. I have been collecting coins for about 57 years and started by saving my tuck shop money in exchange for any Victorian pennies and halfpennies they might have when the tuck shop closed. There were some good ones sometimes and would you believe I got a 1777 halfpenny in change and a friend who knew I collected brought me a nice (VF) George IV shilling which he got. I still have those and plenty of others to this day. If I can add anything to the videos you do I shall do so.

Very interesting, but I DO wish 'younger' folk would learn how to pronounce _twopence_ ('tuppence') correctly !
