Gallery Wharf (The Ragged School) I've been alive for twenty-seven years and for most of this time I've been arranging my life into packets that won't be opened 'til I die I fell asleep just for a night tried to drag myself around though whiskey covers, it can't kill what's done can never be put down The steamships came and they went again in a great flurry of tears moved by the gates of the Mausoleum hidden away for years Merchant fathers along the coast dotted in amongst the trees with a pining daughter and disease to bring them to their knees streamers tangle in the air at the end of Gallery Wharf sailing lines for ten pence a time as the vines still twist and fall I was born down by the sea where the waves came heavy crashing to end up dying, at the end of the world with no one left to care for me the steamships came and they went again in a great flurry of tears me I'm still stuck here without a friend I've been here for so many years Been alive for twenty-seven years and for most of this time I've been arranging goods into packets that won't be opened 'til I die until I die until I die until I die until I die ... ( Nikki Sudden )
lol glad you like it - have you ever listened to any Nikki Sudden/Jacobites stuff before? If not, you should definitely check them out. Robespierre's Velvet Basement is a great place to start :)
One of the ALL TIME greatest, overlooked, cult albums EVER!! In fact, The entire catalog by Jacobites, Nikki Sudden, Dave Kusworth, Swell Maps, Last Bandits In The World, French Revolution, T.V. Eye, Subterranean Hawks, Rag Dolls, Bounty Hunters, Tenderhooks Catalog is Gold!!
Of all the songs Nikki wrote he said that Gallery Wharf was his dad's favourite. Nikki's live version of this can be heard at mediafire (dot com) /?0w9tatv42is64do,, at 32 minutes.
is it just me or is this song weirdly put together, it should be awesome (and very nearly is) but the sloppy way it's played just turns it into a mess, this has to be one of the biggest disappointments musically ive ever encountered as it should be a masterpiece! every time i listen i'm hoping it will be better this time!
R.I.P J.L Pierce, R.S Howard and N. Sudden. Three legendary guitarists and prose writers..
Agreed on all 3!!!
Long live The Gun Club, The Birthday Party, The Jacobites, The Barracudas!!!!

Tear in the eye
What a song
Gallery Wharf
(The Ragged School)
I've been alive for twenty-seven years
and for most of this time
I've been arranging my life into packets
that won't be opened 'til I die
I fell asleep just for a night
tried to drag myself around
though whiskey covers, it can't kill
what's done can never be put down
The steamships came and they went again
in a great flurry of tears
moved by the gates of the Mausoleum
hidden away for years
Merchant fathers along the coast
dotted in amongst the trees
with a pining daughter and disease
to bring them to their knees
streamers tangle in the air
at the end of Gallery Wharf
sailing lines for ten pence a time
as the vines still twist and fall
I was born down by the sea
where the waves came heavy crashing
to end up dying, at the end of the world
with no one left to care for me
the steamships came and they went again
in a great flurry of tears
me I'm still stuck here without a friend
I've been here for so many years
Been alive for twenty-seven years
and for most of this time
I've been arranging goods into packets
that won't be opened 'til I die
until I die
until I die
until I die
until I die
...
