    You have every board backwards on top of the ramps at 42 seconds. It is a good thing i saw the writing on the bottom of the drivers that told me what pins they needed to go to.

    Hi,
    I have a question about the building from scratch 3D printer. for my idea, I would like to have 4 PMW output to simulate the extruders as I am using actuators that need this type of signal. So my question is, Can I use 4 pins on the RAMPS board and assigned as extruder on the Marlin firmware and when I slice the design using Slic3r with the 4 different colors I would be able to activate this 4 pins with PMW signals when the Pronterface perform each extruder?
    Hope this question makes sense and I could hear soon from you. Really appreciate your content.
    Thank you.

    Hi, I have two question.
    1) Why are there two holes for power supply 1:04? I know the two below ones (Hot and Ground) are for Motor. How about the above ones because when I applied the power supply to them, there's nothing happened?
    2) How much voltage do you recommend for controlling 5 stepper motors simultaneously? When I applied 17V to control 2 stepper motor, they ran pretty smoothly. But when I hooked up one more motor, it started to mess up. It appears that at 17V, the board cannot handle 3 motors or more.
    Thank you.

    The heat bed is powered through the 11 Amps connection. The 5 Amps is used for all the Arduino and the stepper motors etc.

    I thought using one driver to power two steppers reduced current and torque by a little more than half, meaning it would be better to use one or abandon extruder 2 and use as z2?

    • @lavachemist
      @lavachemist 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's probably better to have a separate stepper drive for each stepper motor, but many 3D printers have two Z axis steppers connected to a single stepper. It is actually possible to stack two steppers for Z axis, if you desired to do so.

      the controller with the stepper motors need ~90W adding to that around ~40W for nozzle heating element. The heating bed needs at least ~100W to heat the bed fast. So, that would mean 240W would be good. If you have no heating bed, you can go with ~160W.

    Why there are two power supplies???

    • @lavachemist
      @lavachemist 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is an 11 amp and a 5 amp terminal. The 11 amp terminal powers the heated bed and the 5 amp terminal powers everything else. If your power supply only has two wires, run them to the 11 amp terminal and use small pieces of wire to connect the 11 amp terminal to the 5 amp terminal (positive to positive, negative to negative, of course!). If you don't have a heated bed, you don't need the 11 amp circuit at all.

      Actually in his picture he is using 6 motors (x, y, two z axis and two extruder). Does the z-Axis really need 2 motors?

    • @lavachemist
      @lavachemist 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the printer... A Prusa style 3D printer has two Z axis steppers and is one of the more common printer designs. If you have that style of printer you need both Z axis steppers.

    your diagram shows a completely wrong wiring for stepper motors so im not even going to bother watching the rest of this video....take time and ensure your graphics are correct and accurate before adding to the rest of the ill experienced crap people are flooding the internet with, if you dont know what youre doing dont make a video about it we need real tools to help us not idiots who cant even get the right pin out for an industry standard part right

    • @lavachemist
      @lavachemist 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The biggest problem with this video is that it implies that there is one correct way to wire the stepper motors for all 3D printers. If you invert the wires (red stepper wire on pin 1B rather than 2B, for instance), the only thing that happens is your motor spins the opposite direction. The fix is to simply flip the stepper motor connector 180 degrees, or invert the stepper in the firmware settings.
