As an adult I have been a very casual toy collector. Basically, just my favorite characters. I've never been a completist-I don't look down on it, I just get more enjoyment from watching the movies or cartoons again vs. collecting the toys.
And that is what makes the hobby great We all make our own entry rules

There’s a thing I always say “man me from 20 years ago would kill to have a figure like this” everytime I do it makes me happy to be reminded I worked hard to acquire all these great models.
I can really relate to this, sometimes the manufacturer just doesn’t complete the line and it’s frustrating. It’s difficult for other people outside the hobby to understand this but I think you nailed the point here. Awesome collection by the way!

Scott, you totally hit the nail on the head with a lot of this! Soooo many collections felt this way, like with G1 Transformers never making an Arcee and some fans needing to improvise with 3rd party ones that may or may not fit with the line. Also how SW fans only got Tarkin in the retro wave, and the list goes on and on... well done man.

As a G1 Transformers fan, I've been in heaven as far as character sellection.
Its honestly been the best time to be a transformers collector. Mainline, Masterpiece, and 3rd party has a SLEW of options. Earthrise and Kingdom alone gave us some great figures. Skylynx, Jetfire and Rodimus alone. 💸💸💸💸 take my money!

@@Getloose360 I was kind of on the fence about Tfs lately, as they are hard to find. Then I saw a local comic shop that had WfC Sky Lynx complete w/ box @ $50 & I was semi-hooked. Price & availability still keep me down to Earth. Then boom HasLab Victory Saber & several conventions are coming up.
I am not a psychologist, but I think collecting in general is very close to obsessive compulsive disorder.
Transformers and Seekers. I'm so glad that Hasbro was able to get so many of them made over the last few years. It really does make my Decepticon shelf look complete.

Yeah, I personally learned to wait for one or two waves of a line before jumping in due to the collecting mentality. For example, I didn't start collecting Toy Story figures until I saw them including less popular characters (outside Woody, Buzz, the Aliens, etc.). It is really a wonderful thing when a toy line actually goes out of the way to make as many characters as they can, no matter how obscure they are.

That classic Doc Ock figure has excellent sculpt! Those X-Men villains (Omega Red and Pyro) are so cool, very "toyetic". I am still trying to build my Batman rogues gallery, still on the hunt for some of them (i.e. Two-Face, Black Mask and Cat Man).

Love that you touched on this topic for me collecting marvel legends is super fun especially when you don't know what new figures their going to show us, I'd rather just be surprised of what they bring and I could care less on how long it takes to finish a team, getting there is part of the fun man!

Would love to see you do an episode on the 'Keshi craze', of the 80s, were we had Muscle men, Cutie, and others swarming everything from toy stores, to gumball machines. it mostly began in Japan, but Mattel was really responsible for kicking it into high gear, with Muscle Men.

I know I've been bringing up MUSCLE and Kinnikuman a lot lately, but there was a team of character from Kinnikuman - four guys - and this is how long it took to complete the team:
-Original kinkeshi: 3 out of 4 made. (ONE got a MUSCLE figure, weirdly)
-Premium kinkeshi (2017-now): Fourth character.
All that time to wait for a guy wearing a shark hat who had no lines, barely an appearance. But it wasn't just the four-man team, he was the last character from the entire saga to get made. And the only one not made in the original early-mid '80s line.

On a different angle, I feel bad for completionists. I tried getting all of the potf2 figures when they came out but gave up. Does anyone even know how many SW figures there are now?!

(Smiling): Ever since I switched from collecting the Star Wars Elite Series to the Star Wars Black Series in 2015 I’ve collected 90% of every action figure, creature, and vehicle (including SDCC). - I never thought of being a completion.
I don't want to go full budhism but you can win collecting action figures if you enjoy the ride. If you think that you can't win unless you have x figure or all the figures of a particular series or something like that, then you've just lose.
I also collect alternative comix and i've reached a point of feeling that what already got is more than enough and that's something to be proud about

Excellent points all around in this video. As a Transformers collector, I see this from both similar and different angles. There are often some characters that are overlooked consistently leaving the display shelf and complete. It seems like an even bigger problem lately, is that the same characters are done over and over again Meaning that we are always restarting a collection and discarding the old “inferior” version. The level of frustration this creates takes a lot of fun out of the hobby. It also begs the question if it’s just the case that creativity ended in the 1990s nothing new whatever gain traction…So the best we can hope for is going around and around again Until we get bored and fall off the hobby.
I'd agree with you as well. Iv like some of the new versions, but it seems something of a treadmill that holds me & others back. There's always seemingly a 'new &/ or better' version right around the corner. 3rd parties can nail it but can be even pricier & Hasbro seems sometimes scattered. Look another repaint/ minor remold of Bumblebee. And why couldn't Daniel have any detail to his toy?

I liked the group illustrations of the X-Men and Spidey- Villains. Because you can play a game with them.Think of your favorite character from each shot. No stopping or pausing. Try to find that character. It’s like “Where’s Waldo?”, with a three second time limit.

I waited forever for a Hunga the Harpy, in Classics, now Origins and Masterverse still waiting for that missing piece of the POP puzzle.
I must say as someone who has collected a number of other items (guns, knives, zippo lighters, etc.), toy collecting requires another level of patience and resilience. It doesn't help that the manufacturers continually to take collectors for granted.

*I'm happy not being a completist.* I have limited space on my shelves, so I only buy the figures I want and care about. I would never buy a figure simply for the reason of completing a line. I'm never about collecting a whole line, cuz I simply don't have the space nor money.

The worst is when the company sets up the parameters for what a complete set is and doesn't follow through. Matchbox notoriously did this with Monster in My Pocket. Series 1 was 48 numbered figures. Series 2 went up to #72. Then we got the Super Scary series which started at #97 and went to 120.
What happened to #73 through #96?
In the third issue of the comic book, which never had a real conclusion om its fourth and final issue, we saw three new monsters that were not part of series 2--Blemmyea, Sciapod, and Bash Tchelik (more commonly spelled BasCelik, but presumably they wanted kids to pronounce it correctly). Sid Jacobson mentioned The Electronic Monster in his "Sid's Bits" column comparable to Marvel's Bullpen Bulletins for Harvey Comics. Eventually, Blemmyea was released as a special figure included with the Konami NES game, and it bore the number 81. Some fans speculated that a background character in the fourth issue may have been Cynocephaloid, a dogheaded humanoidncreature that often appears in books alongside Blemmyea and Sciapod. The Monster Rock audio cassette had one song mentioning monsters from series 2 along with a character called Hairy Boggart, which many assumed to be the monster with the key on the splash page of the first issue. Someone who claimed he saw series 3 at the Toy Fair claimed he remembered #82 as Ho-Ho (Japanese phoenix), #84 as Kitsune, # 87 as Kirin, and #90 as Sleipnir. Eventually, fans discovered that #73 through #80 were released as premiums in Shreddies Cereal in the UK and Big Boy fast food premiums in the U.S., but that still left many unaccounted for.
Later, I acquired the Cromy Monster in My Pocket sticker book from Argentina, which included 96 monsters, none from the Super Scary series. Although these didn't include numbers and were not organized in any similar fashion to previous materials, the 14 monsters with unknown numbers were revealed to be Achelous, Ankou, Banshee, Catarenha (in other countries, Guardian of the Gold--body of a fox and an ugly human head with a cap not unlike Red Cap's--the only one I've never found in a reference book), Djinn Shapeshifter, Genie, Grendel, Hairy Boggart, The Headless Man (the Headless Horseman, but not mounted), Hieracosphinx, Hodag, Jabalius (in other countries, Beast of Gevaudan), Sciapod, Talus, Troll (the monster with the key in the first issue). Bash Tchelik and the Electronic Monster were nowhere to be found despite their official appearances in the comic book, let alone Ho-Ho, Kitsune, Kirin, and Sleipnir. There was a young woman in the fan group who used Kitsune73 as her username, so he may have been trying to impress her. No one cared for the ludicrously wide sculpt of #75 Anubis, she especially--she was a pagan who worshipped him. The painted images are signed by Jan Sheets and Jenice Heo. The latter is better known for her album covers and her marriage to Gary Burden. I contacted her mentioning that people on the current Monster in My Pocket Facebook group were interested in hearing from her, but she did not respond.
A few years ago, someone with a lot more money than I have tracked down the line's original sculptor and commissioned sculpts of the unreleased figures--which he said he had never done, so there is no question that the figures for which I left a gap on my shelf never existed. He was doing various online fundraisers to get the figures made, but given that they would be produced in minimal quantities, they would cost well over $50 apiece to those who wanted them, which is around what the rare figures now go for on eBay. They were doing a Kickstarter to get them made. The plan was for sixteen figures--the fifteen unproduced figures in the Cromy sticker book along with Bash Tchelik.
When I was in college, I developed a double-length screenplay for a feature film that expanded on the comicbook and was to bring it to a conclusion. I called it "a thinking person's creature double feature" because it really intellectualized many of the ideas that were hinted at in the original material. Dwayne McDuffie, who wrote the comic, wanted to read it when it was finished, but after some humoring by Joe Morrison and John Weems about reading it when they were done suing Nintendo over Pokemon, they sold the rights to Pyramid Entertainment for the never realized Monster in My Pocket: The Quest CGI series and told me that to read it then would be improper, so I never finished it, nor wrote down how I planned to end it, although I still remember. I'm not sure if I ever sent this incomplete version to Dwayne before his untimely death at age 49. I do still have it, but it doesn't do me a lot of good even to show off my writing ability because it's full of direct quotations from the comics and uses its supporting cast. Of course, it was also loaded with homage to films I viewed as a film student, from Koyaanisqatsi to The Long Goodbye. The scene that was a swipe from The Long Goodbye was the fingerprinting scene, which would never fly now for either technological or cultural reasons.
Even though I've written a number of original scripts, my career has never flown, which led to eight years in the NYC homeless shelter system. My degrees in English/communication and film are often held against me as a liability in attempting to make a living, and people refuse to believe my personal story of becoming homeless simply because of an unwillingness to interview me coupled with physical challenges despite the massive amount of documentation I can produce.

I'm still waiting for X-Men cartoon style Morph. Can't believe they didn't include the human head with the AOA Morph so we could put it on the bomber jacket Cyclops body.

Collecting Super7 Ultimates has taught me to embrace the wait. It's been over a year since my Thundercats shelf got a new figure.
Super is way more expensive than Neca and the wait is too long for a wave!
Its the best we will get
I collected MASK figures and a bunch of the vehicles for a while. The great thing is; it's a contained and 'dead' toyline. You know what is out there, what you are getting into. You don't need to hold out hope for this or that to appear, because it won't. And yoy can enjoy 'foraging' for what is actually there.
For some items, you got to reach a little deeper in your pocket to get them because they are big or scarce (also depending on the condition). So that is a factor that makes it harder (and for some hardly possible) to reach some 'goals' and leave you with an itch 😉.
Now I am done with it and I don't think I'll pick up another collection anytime soon. Probably because of the reasons you describe relating to properties that might be of my interest.

Just noticed today that the Vintage Collection came out with a new Lobot to order. Always wanted one with better articulation, and this one looks like it's what I'm after. The one I've got has those strange angled swivel joint in the elbows that all the figures had for awhile.

The first collect a figure I ever completed was just recently. Sadly, it was the McFarlane toys Bane. While I liked the figs, and the figs were mysteriously discounted on Amazon, I found out why when I couldn't get the build a figure together. I'm waiting for the last piece of King Shark to come in because I just don't learn. Even though I pre-ordered from Target, this final Peacemaker figure to finish the set has taken a month of waiting...

This never occurred to me, but you clearly collect differently than I do. I didnt realize there were 2 camps, but you seem to collect things that were stories first, that had toys made, where as everything I collect was a toy line first, that had stories made. I've never tried to collect a team, if it says He-Man, Thundercats, SIlverhawks, Bravestarr, Visionaries etc. on it, I want it. It never dawned on me that people are sitting there, waiting for the toy company to make a character, from a show, in a certain outfit, so you can complete a scene or team. That must be a very different and annoying experience.
We all tend to make and then follow our own set of collecting rules

I really liked be collecting figures but lately it getting harder and harder to be able to find the figure that your looking for because of all these scalpers. They make it almost impossible to be able to the figures that you want.

Army building as a different form is still similar to team building. The big question is how many to be content with the size of your army.
Team/army building is not the same as being a completist of a full line, but it is still a form of being a completist just not as extreme. There are collectors out there that must have all. Missing 1 figure out of a line could mean they quit if the missing piece is unobtainable and similar when a line ends, they quit and sell what they accumulated because the hunt is over, time to rinse and repeat witha new line. One hobby, different form of collectors.
Nostalgia, Interest, Just looking cool... and many others.

I think getting custom figures is one of the best ways to get that character you are missing. I'm a huge Danger Girl fan, I really wanted a 6 inch action figure that I could pose, unlike the ones McFarlane ones (they look grat, but you can barely move them). So I made my Abbey Chase and Sydney Savage form an Infinity War Black Widow, Gwenpool, Mockingbird and disco Dazzler. After that I made Will Eisner's The Spirit, and many more. I was never gonna get those characters, so creativity came in handy.
Sometimes that is the only way to go
For me I get a kick out of seeing my favorite characters from media stand next to each other. I get mostly movie ones because in my head it’s some what possible they can co exist. But I just get characters I like. I don’t feel the need to get figures I don’t want for the sake of completeness. I make the rules for my collecting 😊
I'd say you should change the battlefield, and go for smaller wins, but I can't believe how hard it was, until recently, to get Sunstreaker and Sideswipe in the same-ish wave.
I'm not huge on completion, thankfully.
I like going to brick and mortar locations and hunting for what I want and seeing what catches my eye. If I can get them, especially with the recent release of Tracks, Road Rage, and Wreck-gar, I win. If I have to order them online, it takes some thrill out of the hunt.

The trick is to not be a completionist. I see tons of toy collectors with that mindset, and it only causes them to buy things they don't like, for the sake of completing a set no one but them will appreciate when they're dead. I used to be that way with Star Wars figures in the early 2000's, but now days I only buy the figures I like, and I don't try to organize them into thematic displays, or anything like that.
I feel the same way. Now that I have the Origins Vehicles for my Vintage He-Man and Skeletor, I am done. Especially now that I have Origins Castle Greyskull.
It all depends on how you want to enjoy your own collection
I'm happy not being a completist.I collect mostly G1 Transformers. I would not want to add a G1 Ironhide or Ratchet to complete my collection since I don't like them.I only collect the figures I want.

Im perhaps the old fashion collector I like to drive around and check the stores in my area its more exciting than just order it from online stores (don’t get me wrong) online stores are ok to buy harder things to find.

Yeah, this pretty much applies to any type of collector. It's seldom that I'm a "Got a catch'em all" collector, but even with just collecting key characters and my favorite characters, it's a long process. For example, I collect the Neca Aliens figures, and we fans are still missing some key Marines. Sadly, in that case, it's unlikely to ever be complete due to a lack of likeness rights. Speaking of, would that be a good topic for a video? I know likeness rights in toys is of interest to me, but I'm not sure if it's a subject with enough substance to make a video about.

I guess we're lucky you were at Mattel long enough for all those waves of DC Universe Classics we got. Really wish we could've eventually gotten an action figure of the Chief to complete Doom Patrol or Dr. Magnus for the Metal Men. If only that last wave of the DC Signature series had gotten enough subscribers.
If only I had known about the online DC figures! I missed Elasti Girl, Lead, and Platinum w/Tin! So now I'll never complete my Doom Patrol or Metal Men! Those particular figures are well over $100 now!
It was a battle, but worth it
Great Video. I understand completely. Finally in January of 2022 a modern updated to all the Giant City Transformers called "Titans" will be complete....sort of. I will have all the ones I really wanted, but it's a journey that started almost a decade ago. Also there are still a couple rare characters that appeared in the cartoon/comics/manga that have never appeared in toy from. Making an action figure of obscure characters is probably a safe bet waiting for. But giant Transformers that cost $150-$200, is not likely, especially if they are obscure characters that not every fan knows about. It will be interesting to see if the current Haslab funds, and what future Transformers projects it may try to create.

Distribution is the thing that makes collecting very hard and frustrating today, Also they hold out on putting items to the market then out of nowhere booom new figures are flooding the shelves.
It´s funny you are talking about this and I have a confession to do : When MOTU Classics stard I have to choose between that collection or Saint Seiya Cloth Myth because of the prices and relase dates and of course continue with others collections as Batman figures, Gi Joe, TMNT, Star Wars, anime figures etc. Saint Seiya is not a popular line of toys or animation in USA but very popular in Japan, Europe, Brasil, Mexico, etc and it is a high valuble collection with metal armors and high resale price from Bandai/Tamashii company.
But anyway, one of the reasons, maybe the most important I choosed its is because Mattel letting down us with the 200x line, with new adventures and the original line finished before they was complete so I wrongly tought "well this other line is going to be years of collect, I going to have all characters I wanted as a kid and thats what I want" and with MOTU Classics I didn´t sure how many years is going to be well even Scott didn´t was sure how many years are going to... Of course I buyed all He-man figures, and become crazy with Battlecat, Prince Adam and other characters... but meanwhile the years pased and see how the MOTU Classics collection was growing and in the end it is one of the best collections of all the times. Really in history. And of course I was growing anothers collections that I am happy to have, well I know I made a decission that some times I regreat. Now I try to buy this and that found in ebay and others sites to complete my collection or at least buy the characters I want and when I see in twitter people talking of revive the MOTU Classics or restocks I really support it even I know it is impossible because the prices, licence, directors , etc.
Sometimes there are lines that you are just thinking in buy 2 o 3 characters but there is an anothers lines and brands you need to know there are going to be continuity , with MOTU with need it this.

As a collector of Godzilla figures I can say that SH Monsterarts figures have become a pain to get ahold of unless I preorder them since secondary market prices are outrageous so there’s a few I missed out on, combine that with increasing price points and lack accessories compared to early releases in the line, plus the fact that the line has devolved into mostly repaints/reissues of existing figures and different versions of Godzilla himself while neglecting most of the Showa and Millennium era monsters (Anguirus, Titanosaurus,Monster X,etc), I sometimes wonder if it’s even worth my time to keep collecting them
I had a very good friend in HS who was a huge Godzilla collector. Even got printed in G fan sometimes

You should now do another one with He-Man and Skeletor sitting in his lap. With Hordak and Stratos having their arms around his chest. Also, there should be King Randor at the distance looking with jealousy because he can´t join since he´s married.
...just to be fair. :) And while you may not have the Origins figure you have the Master of the Universe Classics.

The difference between a "collector" and a "hoarder" :
A collector has 'one of each' in a complete set of 12. but a hoarder will have 12 of the exact same one.

Spector, I have another topic for you to talk about. Japan's Nendoroid collectable figures from the company Good Smile. If you don't know the brand think the anime version of Funko Pop figures, but they are actual figures with articulation and not statues. Also the line is a bit expensive with them starting around $40, which is why I've only bought under 10 of characters I really want.

I know what you mean when it takes time to complete teams. Some Ranger teams have been taking quite awhile to complete. A few years for some. Only MMPR, Zeo, and the two villain Ranger teams have been completed now.

Speaking of Jabba's palace aliens, I really wish we'd get a new version of Amanaman, but knowing Disney and how their character selection is as deep as a puddle I fear we'll never get another version of him or other obscure aliens.
At this point, I wouldn't count on too many fully tool'd Original Trilogy figures.

This is why I started customizing. I knew I'd want characters that the toy companies would never create. Or if they did, they wouldn't be the way I wanted them. Because of this I'm only a few figures away from completing what I started back in 2014.

I'm reminded of the line, if you don't do it, nobody else will. I know most people can't. There are many that can, that won't(because they have lives and like eating).
But what I found in collecting isn't an issue of completeness. But real estate. Over the many decades of collecting, I one I day woke up looked at my stuff...and...
...this looks like a hoarders paradise. How do others handle this, their shelves look the same. Crap, this is driving me nuts. Well, boxes stack better than the figures. So away to storage they go.

I’ve been a collector since 1994 and my hobby (slowly running out of room) room is full of stuff/figures/die-cast that i like. I’ve never been a completionist BUT i do like to obtain certain characters i either a) had as a kid, b) belong to a certain “era” i like and/or c) film/TV show i enjoy. Neca Predator and Predator 2 as an example and Neca TMNT (from the 1990 film). Star Wars Black Series is a line i cherry pick (aliens) and with modern G1 Transformers i don’t purchase any character past the 1986 film and that’s the only TF i collect these days. I’m still waiting (patiently) for certain figures and i’m okay with the fact that they may never come out. I’m a HUGE Mad Max fan (all 4 films) and i have loads of merch and i collect all the vehicles (along with everything else MM related) in all the scales YET it’s taken nearly 27 years for what’s already been released (roughly 12 different vehicles in 1/64, 1/24, 1/25, 1/43, 1/18) to come out with over about 40 other vehicles still not produced yet. Time and patience are key but realising that a figure/vehicle or whatever may never see the light of day is a realisation that has to be recognised.
Talk about holding out for a slow burn!

Collecting does take a long time. I had to wait to get some figures from ebay. Then you have collections you can only get from Japan. Kamen Rider is only from Japan. To get all the characters from the episode a Friend in Need in the 2010 MMPR 4" scale, you had to wait until Japan created Kamen Rider Black RX in that size. And I got a Kamen Rider W from Japan at the same size for Megaforce. And then customs when I can't find what I want or create my own character.

I havent spent decades collecting this line as it's only been out like 1-2 but I feel this pain with masters of the wwe universe. I have bought every figure they have released in this line and I'll buy the the figures from the last 2 waves (if I can find them) but two of my most wanted characters were never and will never be made since the line is ending. But the kick in the teeth is they used both wrestlers in the character mock ups when announcing the line a few years ago. So clearly they had at one point planned on using them. But oh well. I'll take what I got. Because i enjoy the line and they look great on the shelf next to the one my masters of the universe origins are on.

Another great video. I saved all of my figures from childhood. I got back into collecting in the year 2000. I made a self prediction that it would only take me about a year to get all of the lines that I wanted...HA!...here I am, it's 2021, lol. Still doing it, lol. It started off so innocent, lol. Then before you know it I'm buying 1970's Mego dolls even though I was born in 1980, lol. Then FTC started making Mego style dolls, lol. Then Nu-Mego made them. Then Pro Customs made the unproduced second wave of Star Wars Droids figures. Super 7 made He-Ro and Eldor. I'm still waiting for someone to make the unproduced wave 4 of Super Powers. My collection is large. I spent the money for a Super Amigos Riddler, the 3 European figures from Secret Wars. And I'm still not done. Stan Solo is making figures like Slave Leia that were never produced. I'll never be done, lol. I don't want to be done. I love it.

Personally it's the random and waiting-based nature of collecting that makes me enjoy it. It's like gambling. I won't even buy toys online most of the time, I just like going to toy fairs and seeing if I "got lucky" enough to find the toy I want. Of course I don't want to actually collect a complete line, I just enjoying having a wide variety of vintage toys, with maybe one or two that go together.

100% 91-92 is a very very special X-Men year. It needs to be right. Both Ferral and Wolfsbane are key figures to that completion. It is the transition from Claremont. CC WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT WRITER IN COMICS HISTORY. Anyone who dose not understand this has missed out. Stan Lee was more important as an editor in chief and brand promoter. Stan let his talent shine. God I miss early 90s X-Men.

I enjoy the acts of collecting almost as much as the actual toys. I collect origins and Transformers. I started during Covid and it has been a real roller coaster ride. It feels like Hasbro will never make definitive IDW Transformers figures and that sucks. I enjoy those character so much. I could always go the 3P route but it’s just not my area of collecting.

What's an even more Debbie Downer is that even the third party companies or enthusiasts don't make what you want. And for the customizers, what to do if the parts want/needed to build figures are not available or suitable. Figure lines evolve and so when a series is reintroduced, the character fans have been waiting patiently for, don't fit in aesthetically with the rest of the figures. Uuugh. The toy companies make the marketing medias like comics, cartoons, films, games, etc, and then they don't even cater to what they're selling. WTF...I've been addicted to collecting toys and action figures all my life. It's fun but very frustrating at the same time.

As the 'Old Man Collector', 27 1/2 years, I know all too well the frustration of trying to complete teams! Some teams I will never be able to compete because DC can't ever get their act together. I will never have my complete Legion of Super Heroes, Doom Patrol, or Metal Men! Some teams I feel are complete in my DC IMO; my 27 member Justice League with 5 Reserve, I have a respectable Green Lantern Corps with 20 members, and a 29 member Justice Society.
Feral was made, a Toyfare magazine mailaway! I have one. But yeah, we need a new one.
Marvel does a whole lot better at completing teams, and giving us figures we actually want, but of course, they don't finish the job either. It took 18 years to complete my 'Classic Defenders'; Dr. Strange, Namor, Hulk, Silver Surfer, Valkyrie (blonde), Hellcat, and Nighthawk. On the other hand I can claim 73 different Avengers and 55 X-Men in 4 teams; X-Men, X-Factor, X-Force, and New Mutants. X-Men still the main team. X-Factor I returned to it's original function as the 'Public Face' of Mutants using the more Popular and Photogenic Mutants. Dazzler a popular entertainer, Strong Guy a Bodyguard of the Stars, Beast a former Avenger and respected scientist etc. For X-Force I again return to its original purpose as the Strike Team willing to take things to the extreme. I change my New Mutants a bit. They are experienced heroes in their own right so I use mine as the 21 Jump St. style, protecting, rescuing kids who have just manifested their powers.
Man, did I get off track. Marvel needs to finish teams too. Thunderbolts, New Warriors etc. Unlike DC, Marvel does give us enough villains, especially with Army Builders! I personally HATE and DESPISE the BAF format! I only need 3-4 figures out of every wave so I almost never get the BAF, even if it's something I want! I don't need any more Iron Man just to finish Ursa Major, and I don't need all those Spider-Man for Armadillo! How many of any one figure does anyone need! Instead of 3 Spider-Man give me Justice, Namorita, and female Turbo! That would almost finish my New Warriors! I have 6 DC Earth's, 3 Marvel Earth's, and an Earth of Heroes and Villains from the Past and Future! Weird that I have twice as many DC Earth's when I have nearly twice as many Marvel figures.
Okay, now I also do something special in that I will make up teams. I have created a British team I call United Kingdom for Marvel 616 and also an evil Kree Avengers for Marvel 616. I have turned Star Wars Black Mandalorians and 6" Halo figures into a team I call The Elite for my Marvel 818 where I can use some more villains and a team of Hi-Tech Armored Mercenaries looks pretty good. And I will fudge (using 1 figure as another) if I can use a figure. I need Avengers counterparts for my Dark Avengers, especially for the heavy hitters;
Outback Hulk to counter Hulk
Shao Khan as Donar, evil German Thor to counter Thor
Obsidian Surfer to counter Sentry
He-Man Revelations as Heracles to counter Hercules etc.
I will cheat, cheat, cheat to make a great display!

I find sticking to a particular range or even a particular character helps. I have a almost complete character options dr who carded cyberman collection. Only missing one...the monochrome tomb cyberman with second doctor. I've restricted myself to original carded figures and not multi pack sets with a single cyberman figure that is a duplicate of the same figure on a card. Saves space and what's the point?...I've already got the exact same figure.
Keeping it real is more fun.....but you cannot collect something that doesn't exist yet.

Topic : What is your take on the fact that Lego allways seems to be able to easily meet demand on any one Lego set , and has its distribution in order Worldwide , where any other toy company miserably fails to do that , with even their most popular figure lines ? Besides Master of the Universe , i ' ve been collecting Lego for well over a decade. I never EVER was unable to find a set while it was in retail . Be it the Legostore or normal brick n mortar retail. Any actionfigure line ? You 're considered lucky to find 1 out of 5 figures , if anything. Lego can do it, why can't Hasbro and Mattel do it ?

Lego switched plastics to meet demands because it cools a few seconds faster but the quality is worse, older lego has better friction control
I heard there were a couple of Lego special collector bonus sets that sold out very quickly and angered a number of fans. I believe their Ulysses satellite, with about 150 pieces, was selling for about $100 on eBay. So even they've had issues satisfying demand based on their lack of foresight.

I still don't see the payoff here. It would be like a record collector basing all of their happiness off someday finding the Beach Boys completed Smile album even though it was never recorded and never will be.
I collect specially 6- to 7- inch DC heroes/villains, the more realistic/detailed the better. But I avoid Batman as much as possible, can't stand the character, and no cloth capes, they make the figures look cheap. Most recently I'm collecting McFarlane's line of DC characters. One other thing we collectors have no control over is the quality and proper representation of our favorite characters. Sadly, McFarlane continues the tradition of producing figures that often lack proper detail, scale, paint, and anything else we collectors need to second guess. And I'm sure there will be a continuation of incomplete groups, leagues, and teams. It's all about the money, the repaint, and reuse of the figures and overcharging the collector.
Like you, I also like the pilots & Jabba goons. So, where are my TVC E-V-99 & 8-D-8? Plus all the others we never got. Come on Hasbro! I aint gonna live forever. .... ...

I wish toy companys wouldnt keep releasing the same figures over and over again batmans wolverines and multiple heman characters over again man at arms teelas skeletors etc . need a variety . mattel should make eternia playset giganotosaurus from vintage line. jayce wheeled warriors need to be made from mattel . centurions from hasbro. adult collectors wont be around for long. time will pass and fans keeping the propertys alive. younger generations wont be into this hobby. great video on this scott toy guru.

Collecting is a Lifestyle not a Hobby if really understand the differences. For me getting something is often to just stop the anxiety of not having it. Though the mail away Han Solo for some reason I really wanted him in that Storm Trooper outfit as I have the mini metal ones. I'd collect a lot of the random Happy Meal Toys I don't even know what I have anymore its like all over the place. Things go out of print or they omit certain things or change the design I kinda like Wolverine in the yellow I got a chipped sculp of him in another one. I was never big into Luke so I don't even think I ever knew he had a Storm Trooper. I'm not sure if the Han Solo helmet even fits it don't come with the storm trooper rifle either. Mail away figures I think was a big deal from Cobra Commander to like Sgt Slaughter and Perry. You kinda feel are getting something not many will or even realize. There things I buy that make me wonder why or I'll just find them boggled :). I kinda want to get the Shogun Warriors along with the Godzilla in nice condition. Once have something its like the desire to have it is kinda gone. Though the worst part is when glasses have like the paint chip of rub off or how you had that one figure the glue came off for the sealed give away. I liked the AWA Wrestling figures they were a lot like He-Man compared to the Rubber WWF ones so I have the nice Wooden Rings classics like Road Warriors. I find it odd how people collect of fixate on things like your pilots or that reptile bounty hunter. I got a bunch of Darth Maul things so its not like I'm throwing stones other random stuff. I kinda wish I bought more of the Dragon Ball Super Battle Collection stuff though.

Esp if have stories of people having storage units full of things or various stuff. I mean unless you live in a mansion all those toys esp the larger ones with bigger scaling take up so much room hehe ;). I often have to balance out how much space I have with what I want to get or I would already be past that point of no return beyond clutter and livable mess :). I think collecting in general is a lifestyle compared to a hobby like bowling or mini golf or Sudoku ;).
