I commend the end soloist at 1:45 his third valve stuck and he kept going. Great concentration. I have played for almost 40yrs and I love everything these men stand for. Keep on playing strong.

To be sure, the fact that he even got the infamous piccolo part out of a trumpet is to be regarded as impressive - I really didn't expect the arrangement to work well, given the way Sousa tends to use baritone and bass voices as a rule combined with writing woodwind parts that are challenging for woodwinds, and fall outside the standard range of most of the brass section.

I hope I can play this good one day. I have only been playing 4 years and only really get a chance to play for school concert band and I have been struggling a bit wit this song and am glad I found this to work with and figure how to play this peice!
Edit) I realize this is much more complicated than what we are playing but it still applies

You can see him having a problem with the third valve at the beginning, but that guy had guys to carry on.

@@plozar Yea, I was just kidding. Everyone knows who wrote the best marches for military bands. He was a genius to come up with so many great melodies and counter melodies.
As for who wrote this arrangement, I have no idea.
