    Really good video, excellent graphics. I have pulled a number of these projectors apart but didnt realise some of the details you explain. Im amazed at the MEMS mirrors and equally the alignment of all the parts in these projectors and yet they are thrown away with no appreciation of the incredible technologies in these devices.

    Your animations are excellent. Great video!
    You should have mentioned the problem that appears with single DLP systems and color wheel or sequential led, which is the "rainbow" effect that bothers many people. While three LCD, LCos systems have the problem of RGB channel alignment.
    And you could already comment that in systems with DLP the micro-mirrors are not only updated sequentially for each color, they are also modulated in pwm to adjust the saturation of each color.

  • @paulvail7926
    @paulvail7926 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I enjoyed this video. I was a bit shocked that you said your projector is LCD as it most definitely is not. You have a DLP Pico projector. No DLP controllers would ever be in a LCD projector. But, your video was great with animations and really spot on in many regards. There are also single chip LCD projectors, which are pretty much garbage. Finally, LCoS projectors own the high end of the consumer market space as used by JVC, Sony, and even one from Epson. The ultra high end, as theaters use, is the three chip DLP.
    I’ve moderated Projector Central’s forums for years, feel free to reach out if you want any follow on work or ideas.
    Keep up the great work.

      @@Sardeiuzz89 - It is best to look at FixItFrank's channel on TH-cam as I am not a repair person, but the most likely cause for a shift to magenta is a failing or completely failed green LED or processing that handles green in the projector. A lack of green = more magenta.

    There is no mention of rainbow effect (RBE) artifact, which all single-DLP projectors produce. Some people never see them; some people see them but are not bothered; some people instantly get sick when they see RBE. RBE is very real, and along with any discussion of wretched single-DLP projectors, should always be touched on.

    • @c1a9h9r9
      @c1a9h9r9 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No with the new tech, the RBE is cause by the color wheel, but now it's replace with 3 leds, that flicker really fast, so this effect goes to minimum.

    • @noe3024
      @noe3024 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@c1a9h9r9 RBE is caused by ANY sequential color system. Even if it's 3LED, there is still a single DLP. Most people fortunately don't see it; some see it and learn to unsee it; some always see it. Some very expensive projectors always have it. th-cam.com/video/yj0QveffCEM/w-d-xo.html

    That last one reminds me of CRT tvs, a light beam drawing lines across the screen, or in this case a laser on a wall. If they could ever improve the tech to make full screen images at 60 or even 120hz it could potentially provide the best looking picture ever. Actual bright vivid lasers making up the picture would look phenomenal.

    • @claws61821
      @claws61821 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      CRT used to HAVE 120 hz monitors before LCD took off. Even 240 hz and higher LCD and LED monitors today often compare poorly to 60 hz CRT in terms of reproduction quality and overall brightness despite the advances in detail density and fineness.

    It is unlikely that the speaker module has an amplifier inside as mentioned. Besides not being practical from a design standpoint, your speaker only has two wires which are highly likely the two wires to the voice coil. It's also clear from the picture that the speaker module has an active speaker and a passive radiator to extend the bass.

    I'm not aware that incandescent light bulbs have ever been used in digital projectors. (in 8mm / 16mm movie projectors yes)
    What you probably meant is high intensity discharge (HID) lamps before LEDs become available for this purpose.
    Also, the color wheel in a DLP projector isn't just RGB, but at least RGBW. Your animation actually does show the white segment but erroneously with no light passing through.
    These are just small things, but factual accuracy is quite important ;)
    The WOWOTO T8e mentioned as being an LCD projector although it seems it's actually a DLP one..?
    Good video otherwise! :)

    I've just bought my first DLP projector and the rainbow effect is really crazy, I would not buy DLP projector again. You can get used to it after some time, but it's still annoying, it's like watching movie on drugs. I know DLP fanatics hate LCD projectors for worse contrast and lower brightness, but what is nice contrast for when I see flashing RGB colors on DLP? It's like some 19th century toy technology, not something I should watch movie on.
