US Citizen here: Canada needs a massive near $1 trillion dollar investment into building and upgrading enough oil refineries so as not to depend on the US for refining oil, then invest in logistical means to move refined oil to other countries. Then invest in renewable energy infrastructure so that they are ready for the global shift. Immediately they should also remove inter provincial barriers to trade. Then they should offer ridiculously low tax rates to attract business investment in Canada. Lastly they should work in collaboration with Mexico to strategically apply retaliatory tariffs, and to create new trade routes and stronger ties between the two of them. This will blunt the effects of the tarrifs while they establish stronger ties with Europe and Asia. The US will be seen as an unreliable partner that uses economic coercion with very shrewd terms to enrich itself while disadvantaging others instead of looking for win win situations. The US economy isn’t hurting yet in Trumps view everything is unfair, the guy negotiated a new free trade agreement and still isn’t satisfied. Canada and Mexico can’t continue to deal with this volatile of a partner who tries to force its neighbors into deals where the benefits are only heavily lobsided to the US. I don’t want this to happen but you have to think that other countries are sick of being threatened and these tarrifs will be a catalyst for both Mexico and Canada to embark on a path to significantly reduce their economic dependence on the US and diversify their trading partners who are less erratic and more stable.

Canada is being forced to find new markets. We will, nothing like hard love to get you going. Canadians, mostly in Ontario, Quebec and the SW corner of BC have little appreciation for where the money comes from. They will, as Canada faces headwinds and poverty without oil to market. I bet we will be selling oil & Lng to Asia and Europe in short order. One smart move is to build Northern Gateway, to supply Asia and Energy East for Europe. Ports on Quebec Atlantic Canada and N BC. The Hudson Bsy, should be studied. Same goes for LNG. We do the construction as investment not cost. Back it with CDN Fed money only procure labor and material from Canada. Slowly divest from USA supply, but insure deals with refiners are met. The USA, should not be seen as a reliable market as they break contracts and obligations at a Federsl level. Canada will lose 2.5% of itz GDP due to Orange Man Tariffs, but csn increase it GDP 4% by eliminating interprovincial trade barriers. Oil and gas to non USA markets should be a boom as will its construction. Consideration to new growing markets on the world should be a priorty. The United States cannot be counted on. It is a wonderful country with so many good people. It is having challenges in the new world. The Brics, China, India EU and the Brics all challenging for power and resources. Americs is now turning on friends to offset its situation. Nèxt it turns on itself. Listen to thd Orange man attack California for example.

@ There are too many people in this country that can't reason. It's all emotion for them. People are tired and can't think logically. They feel and they don't understand why they feel this pent up anger. It's because we are tired. Simple as that. The issue is some can think while tired while the other group can't. And the other group is emotional. And until you put it in their head that they are tired and they are feeling anger because they are tired and you are causing them to think which makes them angry they are going to resist everything you give them until they fix the problem which is to get some proper rest. People that act on emotion can't reason well. It's a circular argument until they get out of their stupor. Better just to tell them to get some sleep and when you are well rested we'll talk. But for now don't let people like that in charge. Emotional(Irrational People) and that goes for people who hate Trump. It's not Trump and it's not Trudeau, it's the people who hate without being able to see through the eyes of their opponent. And it's those same people who would've killed Jesus too(I'm not a Christian) but I know that when I look at people who reason by emotion it's like looking at the mob of people who crucify the innocent. Trump is obviously innocent even though he hash a demeanor not likeable to some. You can always find something wrong with someone they are not perfect, that's why all the intelligent guys say you can't look at the person, you got to look at their actions and policies. And Trump is doing it right.

It will be more than 25% on EVERYTHING....even products made in the US will be subject to this tariff. Why, you ask? Made in America goods still need to get onto shelves for the American consumer to buy....to do that, they will be using oil/gas to get said goods from point A to point B, and that oil/gas is tariffed! Imagine being a homebuilder in the US right now, and you buy 10's of thousands of dollars worth of lumber a month.....they're going to get hammered....twice!! And the clowns spouting "bring back manufacturing to America"...how are you going to produce a finished product, without raw materials, resources or the infrastructure to do so? Even if they could, the sticker shock for those items would astronomical. Nobody wins in a trade war....let's hope this is just saber rattling and jockeying for a position!
