      It takes an awful lot of strong bleach to make hair that dark into hair light enough to color that purple, very damaging.

    • @zeala1
      @zeala1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      You can bleach Afro textured hair as long as you stay committed to keeping on top of protein and moisture treatments. I know many naturals with bleach blonde gorgeous hair. It takes commitment.

    • @Ashley-dt7tv
      @Ashley-dt7tv 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      moni zeal is right. I had all the colors of the rainbow and had to bleach it prior. It doesn't do damage if you take care of it. That's weekly deep conditioning and staying on top of your hair routine. You can't get lazy

    Having your natural hair out is such a struggle for black women especially for those like me who lives in Washington state where it rains 24/7! It's all over the place and WHITE PPL ( sorry to shade y'all 😂) always AlWaYS ALWAYS want to touch my hair and sometimes even without my permission. But having braids is hard to because people always wants to know how long it takes, how many braids are there, do you have to braid it every night,how often do you wash your hair.

    I'm glad she realized that there is nothing wrong with her natural hair. Her natural hair is beautiful, and she doesn't need to perm her hair or have extensions in order to be beautiful. I wish my mom taught me to love my natural hair when I was growing up. I'm glad I rock it now.

    • @topicsgirl7634
      @topicsgirl7634 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Perming hair or having extensions doesn't mean you think your hair isn't beautiful. She technically has extensions when she wears the braids so I don't see your point.

    • @Pinkiiy
      @Pinkiiy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Topicsgirl7 I was gonna reply the same thing. I went natural for over five years loved it. Got married and moved away from my family on military base where there was no one to help with my hair and I relaxed it. I feel that I'm beautiful both ways. I'm not my hair and it doesn't define me. I've done over six big chop it grows back and once I realize that... I learned how to feel beautiful with or with out it.

    • @b1njjj95
      @b1njjj95 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Pinkiiy Again, as I mentioned to Topicsgirl7, I never said that styling your hair those ways doesn't make you beautiful, *I SAID THAT STYLING MY HAIR THOSE WAYS WERE THE ONLY WAY I FELT BEAUTIFUL*, because I was taught at a young age to hate my natural hair. God, do people only read what they want to read? 😑

    • @Pinkiiy
      @Pinkiiy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      b1njjj95 THERE WAS NO NEED TO USE CAP. As I said I was gonna comment the same thing. But I do have the right to share my opinion.

    • @neishagilkey6359
      @neishagilkey6359 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Stephanie I agree. Her braids are just a bit rough textured maybe some jam will keep the roots not so nappy. Also perhaps she could try ombré Black to purple so it's not so harsh. Or just bite the bullet and get it done at the shop

      i know! if she got it shaped and trimmed just a bit, then moisturized the ends to keep things from getting nappy as Neisha stated, she would seriously glow. once you've got a routine down, it's super simple to keep up. purple extensions popping here and there might help with comfort levels if she needs them.

    "It's okay to style your hair anyway that you want."
    Absolutely agree with this. If you want to have your hair all natural, then you can. If you want to have your hair straight, then you can. There should not be a stigma against each other - you choose your own style. Don't let anyone discourage you and take that away from you.

      It's harder for some than others. For me, I never really did my hair, so going natural was like having my hair done all the time, which is the opposite for many women. I also never liked my hair until I went natural.I used to straighten my hair daily just to put it up. I hated getting my hair done. Going natural made doing my hair so much easier because all I have to do is wash it and it's done. An afro is a perfectly fine hair do.

I sometimes (well, always) wish my hair was at least a bit more curly so I looked more bold and lively I just think curly and natural hair have that lovely vibe. I wear my hair natural and I think my curls look nice, however, I still would prefer straight hair. It's a lot less to manage it and not time consuming- I wake up, brush my hair and done. Also I don't have to worry about spending like $30 just for two bottles of conditioner specially made for curly hair, and my hair goes passed my butt when straightened, so I go through hair products fast. Not to mention the costs of other products used to maintain curly hair. I also wouldn't have to worry about my hair becoming flat every time I lay my head against something when I'm tired or in bed, or having my curls lose their shape if I want to get my hair out of my face and wear a ponytail (sucks when it's spring/summer because I HATE the heat). Curly hair looks nice but for me, it's very frustrating to have. I don't straigten my hair because I don't want to damage it. I don't like doing anything different with my hair because then I have to spend time getting my curls back the next morning. I already spend 15-20min touching it up after waking up and I'm not going to wash/soak my hair everyday to get my curls back, I've done that before. The only good thing to come from it is healthy hair and compliments lol (my hair is 2 textures, 3b and 3c)

      My hair's mostly wavy but I still can't brush it. I know so many girls with my hair type who can brush it every morning and it looks fine, but mine triples in size despite having the same texture? I have to detangle with a wide tooth comb when it's wet and conditioned and all that, and my hair tangles so incredibly easy it'd be so much simpler to just be able to put a hairbrush through it whenever it's tangled but no I have to wait until I have time to spend an hour detangling. I completely agree with you. I love my hair type, but good lord having straight hair would be so easy and prettier as I can't make my hair silky and shiny for the life of me :/

      Feonalilly does your little brother actually have long hair though ? I have 4c hair and my hair doesn't hold moisture and it shrinks so bad. Curly hair is difficult imo regardless of texture. My hair is easier than my mom who has a looser texture than mine cause my hair is thin and hers is thick. Thin hair is easier sometimes cause it doesn't take as long to detangle , but thick and coarse hair I feel will be more difficult than thicker looser hair.

    This makes me so happy to watch. It also made me want to cry because I have a cousin who hates her natural hair. Her parents and I have always tried to help her feel more comfortable with her hair, but it's hard growing up in a predominantly white and Asian family. I learned to help my younger cousin with their hair and tried to learn how to style it for them because at the time her parents were clueless and giving her a white girl hair style. She hated it and was bullied for it, so I did a couple video searches and practiced until we both found a style she loved. Later her parents had her take it out to get a right well wash (again they were both very inexperienced they're better now) it and has her wear her natural hair for a while. Eventually she got it done but she hates her natural hair now. I've been trying to say her natural hair is beautiful. I just sent this to her.

    lets be honest, she doesnt wear her hair out because she isnt comfortable with her hair. it's an insecurity. i gave a side eye when she said "its okay to style your hair how you want it."
    it most certainly is. but that message of freedom is hard to take when she doesn't feel freedom in her own natural hair.

      So every black woman should have an afro!? Most women don't have natural hair. Most blondes are fake, most peoples hair aren't that highlighted or straight, but black women are suppose to only sport an afro or braids.....that's it :/

      you can't know if she feels freedom in her natural hair or not maybe she just prefers it braided and that's it
      as somebody else said in the comments a lot of girls with even wavy hair straighten it, or people who color it and nobody judges them, everyone's free to do what they're comfortable with

      DeMauri Nycole That’s not true she said its beautiful but it’s high maintenance especially when it’s thick. I’m like her i’d rather have braids and just get up ready to go.

      Jocelyn Fauntleroy people tend to paint natural hair in a negative way. Every girl with curly hair should rock natural once in awhile.

    I think she should've properly groomed the fro, before she went out. It would've looked great if she'd moisturized it, removed the obvious knots, and shaped it.

    • @courtr1588
      @courtr1588 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      That's what I thought, too. I wear an afro half of the time and felt like that was just a plain/lazy fro, haha. But I still think she looked good for what it was worth.

      I have her hair texture when I dont wear and no matter what I do it still looks like hers. Some her just looks undone which is why she probably dislikes it. 4c hair is extremely hard to deal with tbh

    • @starberrysweetee1495
      @starberrysweetee1495 7 ปีที่แล้ว +94

      She did, that's what her hair texture looks like when it's detangled, washed, and moisturized. 4c hair just looks that way and if you think it looks unkempt in this state, it's probably because you haven't been exposed to this type of hair texture before. We often portray black people in media with looser curls when, in actuality, healthy natural afro hair can look like this when the same process is done to it, if the texture is tighter and kinkier.

    • @SpookyGhostHippy

    • @lilyraimey3499
      @lilyraimey3499 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I definitely have been exposed to that texture - it's on my head. It just seemed to me that she didn't put as much effort into it, as she could've. I know how good 4C hair can look.

    I have never relaxed my hair. I have had it pressed and have noticed it looks very thin. And not full anymore. This makes me happy because I kinda feel pressured at times to go natural. And Truthfully. I just feel it wasn't for me I tried it and didn't like it on me. Plus Im too lazy for the up keep. I like Straight hair I think it looks good on me and that's what I'm comfortable with. I am however going to to stop pressing my hair for a while. Been just getting blow outs and wearing a ponytail / gonna start getting sewins. So I like this good job buzzfeed it's nice to know that others kinda feel the same way. You should wear hair however you want. It's your head do as you wish and be happy.

    The number of black women who are afraid to rock their actual, natural hair is killing me. I bet one day some white girl on instagram will be rocking an afro and then it will be super trendy all of a sudden, just like big lips and cornrow braids. Ugh.
