I can’t wait until you get the car together, sorry about the oil leak. I know those things are hard to find sometimes .

I picked up a 1986 Cabriolet back in March and the vehicle is rough as heck. It turns over well but does not start. I've drained the tank, new fuel, new fuel filter and accumulator. Fuel pump is next and hopefully when I get all these things installed it'll actually fire up. But a little voice in the back of my head is saying............."no it won't" but we'll see. I've posted a couple of videos under "Richard's 1986 Volkswagen Cabriolet Project" if your interested. I haven't posted anything recently but hopefully soon.

Do you have a compression gauge? Thats something ill probably do on a video coming up soon.

No compression gauge at this time. But I might get one eventually..

Great deal! That's a really cool, classic car! It totally deserves new fuel, oil, coolant, air-filter, plug-wires... and then maybe head-gasket if needed.

$300 is good. I really wish I bought a nice running 89 Cabby 1 year ago I found for $1200. Kicking myself. But I found a clean 2000 Cabrio with 158k for 3 grand. Nice stereo. Feels much more secure on the road than Cabriolets I have looked at. Just needs shocks/struts, and AC compressor. Top is like new. Always garaged . 2nd owner. Sometimes paying a little more $, saves a little $. Oh yeah, original keys and working factory alarm, all locks work.

I bought a cabriolet 88 in good conditions for $300 too!
Engine worked well but transmission didnt, but i drive it home abt 6 miles.
I didnt worked on it untill a month after. I found the leak on the transmission due to a hole on the bottom, so i used metal welder, and replace the transmission filter. After tht, engine didnt want to run. Now it just cranks but diesnt run. I already replaced both gas pumps, Gas filters, spark plugs, control module, coil, even brand new injector! And still doenst run :( i need help please

Did you weld the transmission still attached to the engine? If so you may have fried a relay or fuse. Just a thought.

It was just a small hole underneath
      Used jb weld

Check your 26 relay if you have injection problems I got a problem with that relay ! It’s a $50 dls relay
Dow you know how reset oxs light ? I’m figure out how to do that 😅
I was watching your video and probably you have problems with the ignition switch. Little barrils cause resistance
    Good luck.

Thanks for the input. Unfortunately the car is long gone. I sold it months ago. I appreciate the comment tho!

    # 1 buy a Bentley manual. Replace all vacuum hoses. Replace the gas cap. It is fer sure sucking air. Replace oil and filter. Pull up the backseat and suck out that nasty gas. Do all of the tune up parts and brake clean the heck outta the head area and engine to determine gasket issues. Check for hairline cracks in the top of the coil. Make sure ALL grounds are grounded. Everything I named is super cheap. After that, you will have a MUCH better idea of what to tweak. CIS injection is really flintstones easy so don't sweat it. READ YOUR BENTLEY !!!

Oh yeah, definitely buy and replace injector seals. Mail order, but cheap. Your old ones will be hard as ceramic.
