The amount of lidocaine 4% cream is indeed 7.5 grams. However, the question is asking for the quantity of lidocaine in the entire prescription which is 15 grams. Hence, we use the 15 grams for the calculations. Hope this helps. Thank you Mitesh for watching and for the comment.
Sir please help me with this... Rx ESTRADIOL hemihydrate 0.5% w/w transdermal gel apply 1.5g to forearms q12hr for 1 month. Pharmacy have only estradiol hemihydrate in 0.06% w/w gel .. how much extra API need to add this to make prescription... thanks in advance sir..
Hi Dr. Danquah, Could you pls explain how to tackle these wordy problems? thanks. A formula calls for using 0.01% of hydrochloric acid in a formula for 1000 ml of a topical liquid. HCl has a specific gravity of 1.2 and is supplied as a 40% weight/weight solution. How many ml of hydrochloric acid are needed to prepare the 1000 ml?

Thank you Stephen for watching and for the comment. %w/w refers to the amount so solute in grams in every 100 grams of total preparation (g/100g). Hence, 20%w/w camphor will be 20 grams of camphor in every 100 grams of the flexible collodion solution while 30%w/w castor oil implies 30 grams of castor oil is present in every 100 grams of the flexible collodion solution. Hope this helps.
Question 3 is primarily testing understanding of percentage concentrations. Since there are several combinations of units that can give the same percentage strength, it will be difficulty to accurately answer question 3 without having the options provided. Hope this helps. Sir 3rd example why lidocaine amount is counted for whole 15 g. Isn’t we take only half 7.5g in calculating?

Appreciate the kind words Philip. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel.
Sir, why didn’t you use 7.5g instead of 15g to calculate the quantity of lidocaine because you said they contain equal amount .
i had the same question too, i don't know if you found the answer
Thank you very much for this!

thank so much
You are most welcome.
Hi sir....for flexible collodion and camphor... Since it's w/w why did you use 20/100 and 30/100
Instead of 20/80 and 30/70 since its w/w ?

If I didn’t have multiple choice answers how would I solve number 3 with just 2 given %s?
