  • This video is on my simple but effective way to allow holding Wild Bettas to spit / release their fry. In this case the species is Betta channoides. I’m also doing a spotlight video of The Blackworm keeper.

    Very interesting video. I always enjoy watching. What do black worms eat if you had to keep them longer?

      Aquaticfish7 they are detritus feeders. But I’m sure if you took them out of refrigeration they will eat crushed flake.

    Nice was wondering do the bettas hatch eggs in there mouths but keeping black worms is best in the fridge I've seen or in a cool place .

      Yanji Yang yes the male mouth brooding Bettas hold the eggs in their mouth for 12 plus days. Once the eggs hatch the Bettas release them and the fry are ready to hunt from the jump. I like to keep the worms cold and clean. I think most blackworm keepers keep them refrigerated. Thanks for watching brotha...

    Wild Betta Fish USA - Hi, I'm thinking of getting a pair of either B albimarginata or B channoides and was wondering which you'd recommend. Is one easier to keep/breed than the other? Any differences you've noticed? Thanks for your time, enjoying your videos.

      Outlander929 thank you! I like channoides a lot. albi are cool but a bit less common. They are both easy to keep and breed. Males are always more colorful then the females. I’d do channoides with some white clouds or rasbora species for some action.

    Great informative video. I have 2 questions though. 1. Where did you get that lid? 2. I have a male Dimidiata that is holding for a week now, will it be ok to move him into another tank? He's in a 20 long right now with 2 other males and 2 females. I was afraid it might cause him stress trying to net him and he would swallow the fry. Thanks for any input you have.

      Don Melendez I’m sorry I didn’t see this. I made the lid myself. Hardware store glass and aquarium Hinges for glass tops. I only move males that are holding as a last resort. I move them within their last few days of holding. This way if they spit the fry are almost ready. They won’t swallow fry

    which is better, blackworms or grindal worms?. some says blackworms might carry some disease?. thx

    • @FunctionBuiltAquatics
      @FunctionBuiltAquatics  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      azhazh100 good question! Grindal worms are great and easier to source. Blackworms for me are easier but neither are better. Grindal worms are easier to keep clean and pathogen free.

    Hi is it fine to keep a pair of betta siamorientails in a 10g if their is adequet hides and he isnt hitting her only nipping and flaring but that is it? Is it safe or should i move her to another tank?

    • @FunctionBuiltAquatics
      @FunctionBuiltAquatics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, I have never kept siam’s but they are splendens like the rest of the complex. A ten with grass, leaves and clay pots is always the ticket.. they will spar and chase but nothing over the top. If you can find 3 long clay pots and use suction cups to stick to the glass they will build the nest in the pot. The pot should be 1/2 submerged

      @@FunctionBuiltAquatics hi um yes i found that the male wants to bulid a bubble nest in a upside down sauser with air trapped, and i did provide one more clay 3 inch pot facing upwarda close to the water line wherw the female is she isnt hurt of laying on the ground. He only chaseses and nipps a bit but the female is the same size and shes more robust so i wiill monitor more closely and if the breed i will move her. Thanks

      Bettas carlos Gil de montes leaves, Malaysian driftwood, Ro/DI water and last Sea chem acid buffer... most tap water is neutral to alkaline. I use all of these methods.

    But oh my, less scientific names is more, I'm getting toothache in very most cases when native English speakers pronounce scientific names 🥴

      Lol! I only know these bettas by their species names. I always forget their layman or coming names. They are so social and make awesome display fish in a black water setup.
