These two had great chemistry and they look great together. This video is so funny, Barbara has a knack for comedy. Loved her singing about being in her room for a week with no food or water. I read somewhere that Barbara has commented that they had to work at their marriage at times to keep it fresh as working together so much, spending all day together in work and then going home together it was hard trying to think of different things to say to each other. I honestly don't think they fell out of love, you don't stop loving someone overnight and they had been married for 36 years, been together for 38 years as Barbara met Martin in 1955, they married 2 years later. I think working together so much wrecked their marriage. But we will never know for sure as they both kept it to themselves, and quite right as it's nobody's business but theirs. I agreed with them not being seen together in public or having their photos taken together as we all know what Hollywood is like and the questions would start are they back together, questions like that. But it's nice they stayed neighbours and friends as they share 2 daughters and a granddaughter plus a godson. They were bound to see each other at private family gatherings. They probably saw a lot of each other in private too. But us fans are always going to wonder why they divorced. Sadly Martin is no longer with us and Barbara will always keep it private and their daughters would never betray their parents
Their divorce still hurts as if my own parents had divorced. 🥲 This is a wonderful memory, though, of the days when they were still in love. Thanks for sharing this!
Neither were great singers, but they didn’t have to be. This was a genuine moment between two people who obviously had affection for one another (or they put in an Emmy worthy performance in fooling everyone about how they really felt about each other). As others have commented, it’s hard to look at this and understand how their marriage failed. But it did. And they never remarried. So they both lived lives alone and apart until Martin Landau died in 2017. Sad. Barbara Bain is still alive and kicking at the age of 90. I hope she lives until 100 at least!!!
I wonder how many takes it took to do this segment - given what was written about the recording sessions for the three songs Ms. Bain had sung in the "Mission: Impossible" episode "Illusion" in disguise as a German cabaret singer. It's significant that, in Patrick White's "The Incredible 'Mission: Impossible' Dossier" book, in the chapter relating to its fifth-season premiere "The Killer" (the first aired episode to feature Lesley Warren as new IMF agent Dana Lambert), that this appearance was not mentioned. I can imagine: "Meanwhile, over on 'another network' (NBC), the season premiere of _The Andy Williams Show_ featured a budding singing duo who performed a ballad entitled 'When We Were Small.' The names of these aspiring song stylists - Martin Landau and Barbara Bain."
I was heartbroken that it all ended so badly for these two - I mean, you've only got to look at them to see how much in love they were and they were married for over 30 years. I know Hollywood is famous for how many different husbands or wives you can have in one lifetime - but I really thought they had the right mix ... and neither of them ever married again. Makes you want to weep!
This is such a lovely video, thank you SueSnellLives! Not only does it show the lovely Martin Landau and Barbara Bain, but also one of my all-time favourite singers, Andy Williams. Martin Landau was such a great actor and the way he gets emotional near the end of this song is so touching. RIP, Sir xx
This is so touchingly beautiful, the more so being performed by two people whose affection was genuine. I would love to know who wrote the song and how it came to be written. I adore both of them. Rest in peace, Mr. Landau.
So loved coming across this. Thank you for posting! They were so obviously in love here, which is how I like to remember them. It’s sad their romance eventually ended, but being the classy people that they are, they never brought ugliness into it. I’ve read they remained neighbors and friends until Martin’s death. With the depth of emotion that is so apparent, there will always be a connection. Rest in peace Martin. And wishing all the best for Barbara. ❤
Linda Escena del Recuerdo de Barbara Bain y Martin Landau de Mision Imposible. Una bella pareja que lamentablemente llego a su fin, pero seguiran unidos gracias a sus hijos.
I don't know why their marriage ended and I don't think I want to know. But at this moment you can tell they really adored eachother. I hope I can experience that kind of bliss one day.
@@Michael1966W - I'm not sure, but apparently the genesis of their split may have come from the fallout over their appearance on a career low for both of them - "The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island" - the last project they worked on together.
Barbara does indeed have a nice singing voice here. I wonder if she was miming though as she didn't sound that good when she sang in the Mission Impossible episode titled Illusion. Who would have thought that Martin had such a good voice too. They so indeed look lovely together and you can see the love they have for each other. I was gutted when they divorced. I wonder what went wrong and had they fallen out of love with each other
That was indeed Ms. Bain singing in that "Illusion" episode. Even the producers hedged their bets, using the more passable takes to use in the episode. It also makes me wonder if the same technique was used to record this number.
Given that it took many takes to get a passable performance from Ms. Bain in preparation for the "Mission: Impossible" episode "Illusion," I wonder how many takes it took to get the results people watching this show saw when it aired on the same night that Lesley Warren made her debut as new IMF agent Dana Lambert in the "M:I" season debut "The Killer."

Poignant and heartwarming. Martin Landau was a highly talented actor, his wife Barbara Bain shined in Mission Impossible. ❤❤
That was very cute. They will be best remembered in the tv show Space:1999.
Loved these two in Space 1999.
every once in awhile i stumbled onto something like this and it makes everything else worthwhile...
Huge fan of these two. It was only few years after this performance that they both co-stared in one of the greatest sci-fi TV shows ever produced.
NO way...can't believe I found this...Thanks for the post
I watch this every few weeks. Just as a reminder to be a kid at heart.
They were a beautiful couple i love them both on mission impossible.

Meravigliosi Barbara bain e Martin Landau. Ho visto anche i loro film spazio 1999. Ho sempre adorato questi due bravi e magnifico attori
Beautiful song and a moving rendition. Like every quality piece, it is very relevant to today’s world as well.
Thanks for posting this rare piece. I love Martin Landau

Me too ! friend.
Same here. They had such chemistry

It's easy to see why Barbara love Martin, so much.

Formavam um belíssimo casal, pra mim eram como se fossem alma gêmeas. Gostaria que fizessem a tradução desses comentários para o português. Obg
Loved the ending with all the kisses. Clearly they adored each other once.
Awesome...
wonderful
Whats weird is how closely they resemble one another. Like they belong together

They grew apart as a couple. It was a mutual split but emotionally it was devastating for both of them.

Wow, so young
💎💎....✨

Space 1999 was so underated. Why in God's trousers didn't Gerry Anderson. Get them to sing in that, too?? 😆

Where can we find the lyrics?
Why did they divorce
He couldn't be faithful!
