there's nothing behind the black nail polish, i personally think that just many men liked how it looks, its really refreshing, and they saw that ppl r not critisizing other ppl for it and not assuming their entire sexuality cause of the fckin nail polish, but rather just find this attractive, so yuh def form of expression. so i think thats why many ppl started to paint them like that

For example Ateez Hongjong wears black nail polish on one pinky finger which means Painting one fingernail is the hallmark of the Polished Man campaign, which brings awareness to violence against children. I don't know if this campaign is world wide or just in Korea. But there are many other nail campaign's we probably are not aware of that these idols support and has meaning. I don't think on general that they would wear black nail polish just to wear it in the k-pop industry. Maybe in the western industry and for a certain genre of music to make them have a certain appearance.

Personally it's for nice occasions.
