You were legit using all your strength to break the earphones. Why the hell would they not break!? If you did that to almost any airline provided earphones they would break. Also this was a DOMESTIC flight. You hardly ever get these many facilities on any other flight across the country. And if you are so picky about your earphones just freaking carry your own next time.

first of all you are flying economy class, headphone quality would be on lower side. If you travel on Business class then you would understand they give proper noise cancelling headphones.
