'Troy' is an enjoyable film but it's nothing compared to the original Iliad by Homerus. One of the greatest masterpieces I've ever read. My greek teacher made me love it and it's still one of my favourite stories ever. Really sad, cruel but simply amazing! Go and read it, people, it's so worth it!
I have read it , and I enjoyed, I think it and its sequel (technically ) the Oddyesy are some the best epic poems in history. But I still love Troy, it's trying to be like what really happened. Troy was a real city, and so this adaption may have been a more realistic telling of the story.

The relationship between Patroclus and Achilles is beautiful and is perfectly defined in the book The Song Of Achilles. Troy, although a good movie, did not correctly interpret the relationship of Patroclus and Achilles as well as the characters themselves. Patroclus and Achilles were lovers and their relationship was unbelievably heartwarming.
It was violent time, power was amassed by waging wars.. sorta like now... It is a violent time now, where instead of just swords and arrows, we can wage war in ways that are terrible beyond thinking of. Mankind must evolve past the fight or flight that is part of our collective and evolve into peace and empathy. Some people have already made that transition and that is why violence disturbs you, but many people are still stuck in kill or be killed war mode. Let us hope that they catch up.

Almost nothing is known about the man himself (though scholars have searched) and it's not as if he appeared so far back in history that we cannot recount details about his life etc. if he did indeed exist. From what I've read, there are too many inconsistencies in the works themselves to assume he was the sole author but the stories are pretty interesting as you've stated 😁 👌
