    I have 50 years of shooting with many systems, and the Fujifilm XF 35mm f/2 was THE lens that made me feel I could use APS-C without feeling that I am compromising quality that I got with full frame. The 35mm was my second Fuji lens (after the 23mm f/2) and by the time I got it, I had my film simulations all tweaked out and finalized, so my first outing with this lens was 100% productive. As soon as I got back and looked at my photos, I knew that my heavy, large full frame DSLRs were going to be relegated to the cupboard.
    If you have Fujifilm, this lens is a no brainer. It's small, light, sharp and fast to focus, plus weather resistant.

    Hi Kirk,
    I use an original 35mm f/1.4 as it has virtually no 'native' distortion and at f8 is perfect for flat field reprography and technical work. The trouble with the 35mm f/2 is that it relies on software to correct it's barrel distortion and vignetting!

    • @KirkWilliamsonphotography
      @KirkWilliamsonphotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes very good point. For the work I do it does not need to be perfect that way. It’s more important for me to have a small, light lens.

      @@KirkWilliamsonphotography for 'walkabouts' I have a tiny silver TTArtisan 35mm f/1.4 on my X-E4. Remarkably sharp and only around $80.00!

      @@KirkWilliamsonphotography: I totally understand this concept! Even though my '80's 'Street Camera' was a Hasselblad ELM with a huge 40mm Distagon in the '80's I still feel that my X-T and X-H cameras are too heavy for 'non commercial' everyday fun work. I have a 'Walkabout' camera: A silver X-E4 and it is fitted with a cute little silver TTArtisans 35mm f/1.4 manual lens (Henri Cartier-Bresson's 'NORMAL PERSPECTIVE' 50mm equivalent focal length). It is tiny, remarkably sharp, with good Bokeh and only cost $75.00 (See: th-cam.com/video/1s-rv-QVmzU/w-d-xo.html). The beauty and joy of mirror-less camera systems is being able to experiment with ANY vintage or modern budget lens, with or without spacing adapters! I really don't wish to be rude but $300+ dollars is NOT A 'BUDGET' lens to most young photographers starting out! Why not open up your testing horizons to REAL 'budget lenses' - it's actually a lot of fun! I enjoy your meticulously produced content anyway! Another great video. The images off that 35 was awesome. I have both the 35 and the 50. My intention was to use them with a smaller body Along with the 18-55 as a quick grab and go kit. Sadly I’ve not used either the 35 or the 50. I think I’ve missed the boat. I’m going get them out and start taking pictures.

      Bob there ya go! My 23 f2 gets used all the time! No I’ve decide to learn my nifty 50 (35 f2) all over again. And I like it. Who would have thought.

    Good video Kirk and very nice images, I had the XF35 f/2 (for a couple of years) and budget or no budget it’s a great lens, but I recently sold it and got the XF33 f/1.4, what can I say, I got gas and it’s not the kind that goes away with Alka Seltzer. Be well and stay safe.

    You could even get the XC 35mm f2 which is even cheaper. Same optics minus the weather sealing and aperture ring.

    • @KirkWilliamsonphotography
      @KirkWilliamsonphotography  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A cheaper option for sure but the build quality is just not there. The XF version is a much better option to build a budget system on.

      @@KirkWilliamsonphotography At the end of the day, it's about the image quality for me, and I find that there's little to no difference between the two lenses.
      Obviously, the XF version is far superior in terms of build quality and WR, but I've used both, and can't really tell the difference between the images.

      @@EthanMaskie I agree, I have used the XF and XC 35mm F/2.0 and shot them side by side the lens output is identical, I only kept the XC however I will still grab the XF 35mm F/1.4 most of the time. The XC gets used if a super quick focus speed is needed (the 35 1.4 is not slow on new cameras, but the 35 2.0 is quicker)
      at around 35mm, we are spoilt with choice right now as fuji shooters.
      XC 35mm 2.0, Sigma 30mm F/1.4, XF 35mm F/2, XF 30mm F/2.8 macro, XF 35mm F/1,4, XF 33mm F/1.4 + viltrox + Zeiss (although i have never used the viltrox lenses or the zeiss on fuji)
