Yes Paul that SEC schedule is so tough that Alabama had to fight through teams like Western Kentucky, Mercer, and South Florida. Very tough schedule. 😂
Alabama played no non-conference games worth noting. See with Florida State last year, they played a ranked LSU team with the best offense in the nation, and the Heisman winner, held them to 24, beat them by 20, and were still left out of the playoff winning all of their conference games
Losing 3 times, including by three touchdowns to a 6-6 door mat AFTER playing a practice game against a cupcake in November should disqualify Alabama from ANY bowl game, let alone the CFP.
Not just losing to a bad Oklahoma team, but getting _blown out_ by them, is probably what doomed Bama. Regardless, no matter which teams squeaked in at the bottom of the bracket, when it's all over, everyone's gonna agree that the national champion this year is deserving -- no one has an easy path to the final game.
You shouldn't be able to fall out of the playoffs by losing your conference championship game, and you shouldn't benefit and make the playoffs because you failed to make your championship game, and didn't play the last week. You can't loose to two 6-6 teams and get into the playoff. Maybe you could forgive one, but twice?! To me South Carolina is the team that has the arguement.
Clemson played both UGA and South Carolina in non-conference play. Bama only played Wisconsin. Good non-conference games can still happen. If a team is as good as you think, they should be able to win regardless.
Here’s the thing Alabama MIGHT be better than SMU, but Alabama lost 24-3 to OKLAHOMA. If Oklahoma blows you out you’re not a national title contender plain and simple. SMU resume might not be great but they did what they’re supposed to and the two teams they lost to was the only team to be competitive with South Carolina in the last 2 months and BYU who if they hadn’t absolutely collapsed against Kansas would have been playing for a playoff spot on Saturday. They crushed all the weaker teams below them, something Alabama failed to do. Alabama just had to beat Oklahoma or blow tf out of Auburn to a point there was no doubt. They did neither of those things. So SMU is the right team in this scenario, let them prove themselves since Alabama slipped up.
Comparing the SEC to the ACC takes an audacity of delulu proportions. SMU got to the ACC title by beating the bottom half of the ACC (worst league in Power 4) Bama got to 4th in the SEC on TIEBREAKERS after losing to OU; furthermore, they played 5 of the top 8 and beat the SEC champ.
You do when the team who came in first and second would be even further back had they played in your conference South Carolina literally just beat Clemson and South Carolina is like the 5 or 6 team in the sec quit acting like all conferences are equal they are not
Replying for all to some of the comments. This playoff is NOT intended to get the best 12 teams. 1. You can't possibly determine who they are unless they all played each other. 2. That concept totally negates the value of even having conferences. It IS a playoff that has a list of qualifying rules, like automatic bids for conference champs. You could have conference champ that is not ranked in the top 12, That means a top 12 team is out. I would be OK with only allowing 1 team per conference. Then the conference actually means something. No matter how many teams make the playoff there will always be something deserving who is left out. I know it is part of the story every year with this and basketball so everyone should stop thinkng there situation is unique.
@ that's the point if you win your conference but aren't ranked in the top 12 you shouldn't automatically get in and get a bye because all that means is your conference was trash.
Miami was the best team in the conference but the defense got worse specifically the corner position due to injury throughout the season and it cost them late in the season. They basically went to having to outscore everyone the last 5 weeks and it caught up to them
I’m with Dan on this! I agree that’s the only thing I would change about the rankings is South Carolina over SMU. But idc SMU deserved it too hella of team
1. Roll Tide. 2. SMU getting in is the right decision. 3. Alabama's offense failed 5:39 to show up in two games on the Road, Tennessee and Oklahoma. In defense of the defense, Vandy also had two weeks to prepare for Alabama. No team that Alabama had two weeks to prepare for had less time to prepare for them.

Imo, the winners of the power 4 conferences should get in and get a bye, then after that the non power 4 champions should also get a play in vs power 4 teams on the bubble with record, sos and h2h taken into account. Boise state won the mwc but afraid of them getting waxed in the cfp? Have them play in vs alabama or ole miss or just another team that didnt make it and its win or go home.
If SMU had won the ACC championship they would have had the bye. The committee probably thought there would be outrage if Clemson a 3 loss team got the bye. So they moved Boise into that bye slot even though there conference is the MWC
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Conversations like this validate that it makes no sense to have a committee decide the fate of each college team. There are too many variables that the committee takes into account that don’t make any sense. And this is the same issue that every college sports has. So as a result, EVERYONE is mad that their team/conference is NOT being recognized. The pros, (NBA, NHL, MLB, MLS, NFL, etc.), have it right by not having a committee. You have conferences, a certain number of games, tie breaks are very simple, and ultimately it’s by the collective skill of that team who wins the championship. Stephen A. Smith and others have a giant platform to bring this change up. What blows my mind is why doesn’t he or anybody else bring this up: NO MORE COLLEGE COMMITTEES. This will solve the problem of these pointless conversations. Here’s an example for college football for the four main conferences, all the other conferences can make their own thing. - 4 conferences: Big 10, Big 12, SEC, ACC. - Number of teams per conference: 16 - 12 regular season games: 6 in your own conference, 2 in each of the other 3 conferences. (All games are randomly chosen by a computer simulator.) - 16 playoff bracket: top 4 teams from each conference make the playoffs. Seeding is all mixed with the conferences. Seeding is decided by wins, losses, points for, points against. 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, etc. By the end of the playoffs, the max amount of games for at least two teams would be 16 total. Everyone else would be less than that. - If a team from any conference doesn’t make the playoffs, then they get to participate in a bowl. No matter what your win record is. Perspective: - Each NFL team plays 17 regular season games, so the college players should be able to handle 16 games. - This type of example can work for a lot of the other college sports. Just change the amount of games that each type of sport is use to playing. Sorry for the rant, but again everybody hates how the committee ranks people, my example would solve that issue.
It's how they lost to Oklahoma--they got run over (257 yds rushing by OK.) The game wasn't close. Maybe if that game is close, they have a case, but they got steamrolled by a mediocre Sooners team.
SEC bias is crazy man. Tennessee freaking lost to Arkansas who lost to the OK State that can’t even win a big 12 game. No mention of a two loss BYU team
Alabama was screwed, but it wasn’t the CFP Playoff. It was SEC scheduling. Alabama had more SEC teams with bye weeks before they played Alabama than any other team in the SEC with a total of 4, to include Vandy and OU. Teams like Tennessee and South Carolina had no teams with byes weeks before their games. Having a bye week before a big game is a huge advantage. The SEC needs to fix this.
Oregon had 4 straight weeks of teams coming off bye weeks AND played 8 straight games before they got a bye. They still found a way to WIN. Just win your games, plain and simple. Stop whining.

Overrated, yet there’s been 5 teams outside the SEC to win a championship since 2006. If the SEC is so overrated, tell teams in the ACC, Big12, etc. to schedule SEC teams for their non-conference games then
The SEC is not good this year. If the SEC played 9 conference games like other good conferences, the conference as a whole would have 8 more losses this year. The SEC scheduling a middle school girls soccer team to play football, in November, gives the conference as a whole, the perception that they're better. This year, they're not. I wished everyone would realize that the twelve teams in the playoffs had a winning record on the road in their own conference. Alabama did not. Alabama lost 3 conference games on the road and only won 2 conference games on the road. Road conference wins show how a team preform in a hostel environment.
It is not about Alabama. It is about SMU not beating a single Top-25 team AND losing to the two top-25 (not even top 10) teams they played. The Committee completely dismissed conference strength.
8:50 - The evidence doesn't bare that out, Mr. Sharpe. Alabama's out of conference strength of schedule was 29th. Georgia, (3rd) and Texas (10th) had better out of conference SOS better than Alabama. SMU (20th) did as well. The problem isn't Alabama's out of conference SOS. Unless they're going to leave the SEC or the conference is down next year, their SOS is going to be similar next season.
SMU SOS is 57th according to ESPN, and SOR is 15. The Bama argument for SOS is invalidated when 2 of the losses are to 2 of the worst teams on your schedule, which shows you apparently aren't consistent enough to handle 2 .500 teams. Also, score more than 3 points and don't lose by 3TDS to one of those .500 teams. If SOS actually mattered as much as we pretend it does, then why aren't all of the other teams with weaker schedules at least 11-2, with 2 losses by a combined 6 points? Maybe winning isn't easy...
"The playoff should be 12 SEC teams" - Paul Finebaum I think they tried to keep the conference winners into bowl tie-ins like before. SEC goes to Sugar Bowl, Pac 12/Big 10 goes to Rose bowl and so on. I still like rewarding the conference winners with a spot in the playoff, but they need to seed those with the next 6 best teams, 1-12. If that means 2 teams from one conference get byes, then that's the way the rankings go. Now the whole ranking system needs to be overhauled, but thats a different story.

When you come in 4th in your conference do you really deserve a chance to be the national champ? Same for South Carolina, they came in 5th.
Comparing the SEC to the ACC takes an audacity of delulu proportions.
SMU got to the ACC title by beating the bottom half of the ACC (worst league in Power 4)

- Number of teams per conference: 16
- 12 regular season games: 6 in your own conference, 2 in each of the other 3 conferences. (All games are randomly chosen by a computer simulator.)
- 16 playoff bracket: top 4 teams from each conference make the playoffs.
Perspective:
- Each NFL team plays 17 regular season games, so the college players should be able to handle 16 games.
- This type of example can work for a lot of the other college sports. Just change the amount of games that each type of sport is use to playing.
Sorry for the rant, but again everybody hates how the committee ranks people, my example would solve that issue.

NO THE PUSH IS COMING FROM CALIFORNIA TO MAKE A SPORT WHERE EVERBODY WINS AND NOBODY LOSES WOKE FOOTBALL IS HERE AND WILL GET WORSE!
"SMU would have 5 or 6 losses in the SEC"
What were the records of those teams that Alabama lost to?
Alabama tears are sweet. The SEC is so overrated.
Wut
Overrated, yet there’s been 5 teams outside the SEC to win a championship since 2006. If the SEC is so overrated, tell teams in the ACC, Big12, etc. to schedule SEC teams for their non-conference games then
@@C-nk4cr Yall got 8 asterisks with your titles since 2006 though.....
Paul Finebaum cannot definitively say Bama is better than SMU.
The SEC is not good this year. If the SEC played 9 conference games like other good conferences, the conference as a whole would have 8 more losses this year. The SEC scheduling a middle school girls soccer team to play football, in November, gives the conference as a whole, the perception that they're better. This year, they're not. Last year two teams that are in the B1G this year beat 2 teams that are in the SEC, this year.
Look, some years the SEC is the best conference. Some years they're not. It's fine. These idiots that keep wanting to discount what happened on the field, in favor of every other excuse, is just silly.
I know you’re not calling the Big 12 and Big 10 “good” conferences lol. Both of them have some of the most floor power 4 teams that honestly deserve to be in a G5 conference. Playing one more conference game against those sorry teams does not make them better in any way. I’m calling it now Texas beats Clemson, Tennessee beats Ohio state and Georgia makes it to the natty. Against either Oregon or Texas again
@@cohubb71probably just trade Utah from the big 12 for Colorado State from the Mountain West
@DonovanJohnson-m9e Utah would’ve been a top 25 team this year and was predicted to win big 12 but their qb got hurt
@@cohubb71 "Both of them have some of the most floor power 4 teams that honestly deserve to be in a G5 conference." Who do this include? Would be interesting to see who you think this fits given the program history of a lot of their teams.
@@cohubb71 Utah had a lot more problems than just their QB.
We gotta stop saying that the SEC is the best college football in the country because of Alabama that ship have sailed and there’s a new conference in town and that’s the Big 12
Someone said Roll Tears 😭
I don't feel bad for Alabama or Alabama fans don't lose to unranked Vanderbilt don't lose unranked Oklahoma and you guys are in the playoffs SMU deserves to be there
But they don’t
The focus needs to be on teams and team performances and not conferences. Each team's schedule no matter the conference.
The team you played, how you played in those games, if you won, and if you lost. Brand bias or perceived entitlement is going to ruin this thing.
Then why is there a "strength of schedule" component? After 13 weeks... 15 of the top 20 most difficult schedules belong to SEC teams.
Bama, you don't want to be left out, stop losing. SEC, strength of schedule changed drastically when players make all sorts of choices anywhere they want $$$. This is how the rest of us felt all these years. Go Big Blue.
NOBODY GOING TO WATCH BAMA AND WOLVERINES TWO THAT COULD HAVE BEEN GOOD BUT FAILED
They left themselves out by losing three games and not winning their conference.
Screw what Paul is talking about fr.. you give up 40pts to Vanderbilt & lose 24-3 to Oklahoma & yall really think they deserve a spot ??
As a SEC fan, I’m glad Alabama is out. Didn’t want to hear everyone complain about “favoritism” for the next year. SEC is top of the sport, period.
He got Clemson messed up now watch them go to work on Texas
Orslovsky looks like Dennis Reynolds. He’s not burning the duster.
A wild card playoff game the weekend between conference champ games and the first round would be cool
2 team final…complain, complain. 4 team final…complain, complain. 12 team final…complain, complain.
Yep! 🤣 16 team CFP….complain. 18 team CFP….complain. 24 team CFP….complain. 🤦🏾♂️
"The playoff should be 12 SEC teams" - Paul Finebaum
I think they tried to keep the conference winners into bowl tie-ins like before.
Vandy and OU say, "Not so fast my friend!"
“Paul is right?!” Bamma couldn’t even score a TD on unranked OU! Lost to u ranked Vandy! You want a 3-loss team in the championship? What a joke!
12 teams CFP is the DEI version 2.0 🤣
Shouldn't the ncaa thought of these things before the playoffs?
