One of my good friends, Christopher Ojeda! I’ve been listening to Byzantine since 2000! One of the most underrated metal bands ever! I remember when they was on Headbangers Ball on MTV
I never heard about them on Headbangers Ball. But I do remember seeing Chris play by himself with a drum machine at a old bar in Charleston. You are right, he was badass way back then.
Please help me out. To get Byzantine over Europe. Lifetime chance band trust me. Chris is so humble. Mainstream crap bands who rip each other people like but bands who put soul in it and after work make music is underrated. Not acceptable to me.
I've been listening to them for a long time too and I saw them in Rhode Island years back. Their performance was masterful. As good live as in the studio. The only other band I've ever seen perform this crystal clear and perfectly is opeth. I truly appreciate their music ❤
I’ve seen Byzantine in their beginnings when they didn’t have a drummer . They used a drum machine live. I wanted to play for them . They were talking to a potential drummer at the time which was Matt Wolfe. They are excellent live . I’ve seen them 8 times. Great down to earth dudes especially OJ. 🤘🏻
Byzantine just came out with a new album back in April called "To Release Is To Resolve" and it kicks MAJOR ASS!!! It's a must buy!!! New guitarist and bassist who brings ALOT to the table!! I believe this album is gonna take them places. I haven't taken it out of the stereo since I saw them at the new cd release show in April at the V-Club and bought the new album. Whole album from beginning to end is badass!! \m/
Honestly, I can't think of a metal band that sounds better than Byzantine. They have a perfect blend of groovy, heaviness interwoven with awesome melodic leads, catchy hooks and really solid and well rounded vocals. I've never had a band pump me up and somehow calm me down simultaneously. God these guys are magic.
I was super fortunate to have seen Byzantine LIVE, it was in Philly, PA at the First Unitarian Church (they had this pretty mid-sized basement where bands would play, crazy i know) and me and my ex-gf had no idea who Byzantine were at the time, we were there to see some other band, well long story short, Byzantine came on, and they killed it! Sounded amazing LIVE, me & ex bought their CD and rolled, skipping the other main acts, they were that good!
Wow, you must really love this band. Its true, they disbanded like a week after "Oblivions Beckons" release. Least they left three amazing cds with their legacy. OJ is a hell of a vocalist.
There were two bands that really got me into metal. Meshuggah and Byzantine. Unfortunately, Meshuggah became my favorite of the two and I began to forget all about Byzantine. But recently I've been listening to them more and I am beginning to remembering what I have been missing out on.
They tore this song a new one in Huntington. If this was them with two and a half years or rust I would of loved to see them two years ago, I hope this aint the last we see of Byzantine.
What a drag; been hearing about these guys for months, finally got my hands on a copy of 'Oblivion Beckons' (which destroys me every time I listen to it) only to discover they split. :(
these guys know what the fucking deal is!!! extremely consistent in the quality of music they write and in my opinion and as much as i love lamb of god these boys deserve the title of being the pinacle of american heavy metal cant wait to hear there new album and jaysus make them get famous or sumtin ireland needs to see live music like this!
we should try to make something all together so we can tell them to please come back! i would really REALLY! like to hear something from oblivion beackons live
Byzantine The clean singing hook in this song is amazing. I'm a sucker for melodic twists in songs. Can't get enough of this song and your guys recent albums. There is no way you guys aren't going to break big after writing Justinian Code. It is a modern day Master Of Puppets.
has anyone here seen the salvation dvd? i was wondering about the x fest footage. if it shows the crowd im on the left side of the stage (if youre looking from the crowd) about the second or third row back. i was wondering if i was in it or not.
they broke up because they couldn't catch a break, they kept getting screwed (and continue to get screwed). for example, they were going on tour with Gizmachi(whom were playing Ozzfest that very year) and also Six Feet Under, but SFU backed out of the tour the last minute and fucked em over. plus they had families and bills that needed paying with "real" jobs.
@krosgood they are broke up dude they did there like 3 fairwell shows back in march im pretty sure there done..theres talk of them getting back together but nothing is confirmed yet
they probably got with a low grade record label and then got alittle better one and broke up,but if you really want to know go to there myspace page and ask them.
@dime6664ever i think "as the palaces burn" is by far log's best album followed by new american gospel... there newer shit doesnt sound that good to me....
One of the most unique sounding metal bands of all time. They had their own sound.

the guitarist for this band used to teach at Route 60 Music in WV where I took lessons.....I used to see him all the time
Not underrated, just not enough folks have seen them live and felt what you only get with seeing in person. A presence indescribable.
Rip Matt Wolfe 🤘🏻🥁
This band is still so fucking amazing to this day. This music in it's time, completely and criminally unrecognized and underrated.
RIP Matt Wolfe

Are you serious?

Check out the album version. They cut out a cool part to shorten it
They KILLED at Morgantown last night. Holy crap. Thier video is great, they are great live. Its a crying shame they aren't together.
What a drag; been hearing about these guys for months, finally got my hands on a copy of 'Oblivion Beckons' (which destroys me every time I listen to it) only to discover they split. :(
17 years ago??? fuck I'm old...
this song still kicks me in the balls tho
You ain’t alone bro
The men just hammer it all the time-vastly underrated
I can't believe I am just discovering these guys. What an amazing band with such a great catalogue. Their new material is mind blowing good too.
It makes me feel happy that they come from my area. My friend lives on the same street as one of the members, I forget which though.
I agree, these guys were pretty darn good. It is amazing how crap bands can go on & solid bands get forgotten by their own label.
Timeless metal from The Mountain State. It will stand the test of time. 2:52 and then this fooking RIFF!!
Excellent band. Very under rated.
tracking the guitars for the new album now...its gonna be sick
they actually posted a bulletin about the break up on their myspace 4 days after the album came out...
so like... why arent these guys more popular?!
they gots floyd roses thats awesome! floyd rose on any guitar=awesomness
I can never get enough of these guys
BYZANTINE They're coming back with a new album! Search for them on kickstarter site.
What a masterpiece
That's awesome. I remember going to that show when you all came to my city.
Only recently picked this band up on my radar, and im fuckin hooked. Unique and very satisfying metal. Looking forward to hearing their new stuff
My english teacher went to school with the drummer. Talk about a small world lmao
The most underrated band.

Охренительная песня!
Just read in the Daily Athenaeum that they're coming back after a 2-year hiatus. YES!!
ah byzantine.
always were one of the most under-rated bands in metal. their last release was insanely good. will miss them!
Unbelievable band!! this sound is amazing!! why they're so underrated? :(
absolutely awesome band.......in my top ten
we should try to make something all together so we can tell them to please come back! i would really REALLY! like to hear something from oblivion beackons live
Oj plays Shecter blackjack and Tony plays Ibanez. Forget what model. Their setup is suprisingly simple for the sound they get.
they broke up. they started about an hour from where I live, they're from west virginia.
Don't forget the middling tempo often used by groovies. Not to mention the really early workers in the style, like Pantera and Exhorder.
Idk why,but a reunion is always possible, check the myspace if you wand to know more.
very nice this song
Really good stuff here.
Just got Oblivion Beckons it's a great album, it's a shame that they broke up.
awsome song, id heard of them and saw the new album in stores, bt now im confident the new albums gonna be the next album i buy :]
look how she's arranging her tools of destruction. Brutal stuff man!
I'm devastated that they slip-up.
@andreipopity
The simple explanation is that it is about someone wanting to commit suicide just to see if anyone comes to their funeral.
Byzantine The clean singing hook in this song is amazing. I'm a sucker for melodic twists in songs. Can't get enough of this song and your guys recent albums. There is no way you guys aren't going to break big after writing Justinian Code. It is a modern day Master Of Puppets.
Thats cool man..It's awesome to run into some folks..Small world.
awesome!!!
Killer song
You should check out Cull the Weak. They're based out of Rush, KY now but from Huntington. Vocalist is a good friend of mine. They're badass.
This song kicks ass
I was there at their last show. Talk about fucking epic XD love these guys lol
He wasn't wondering why he's screaming all the time, or what the heck he is doing screaming, but what he is saying.
makes me proud to be a metal head from Charleston WV where these guys are based
Oh a lefty guitarist, INTENSE song too.
I am one of the few that was actually a student of Byzantine's drummer, Matt Wolfe. Great teacher and drummer. I will miss their music.
@dime6664ever i wish that too... without pantera it seems like there's a void... damn!
has anyone here seen the salvation dvd? i was wondering about the x fest footage. if it shows the crowd im on the left side of the stage (if youre looking from the crowd) about the second or third row back. i was wondering if i was in it or not.
Such an underrated band; lyrically, they had few equals in American metal.
Killer song, I read the lyrics, but didn't fully understand the meaning of the song, can someone care to explain plz?
Awesome!!!!$!$!$1
@RAbbi74 Seriously? That's amazing news. I was quite sad when these guys called it quits after Oblivion Beckons.
Byzantine kick asssssssssssss
@Ekofu This comment made my day. I live in Maryland and I'm pretty sure there are people here who couldn't even point out WVa on a map. :D
are you shitting me, 17 years ago?! jeeez
@PlaguetheLoss You were in Arsis? Much respect.
RIP Wolfe
If Pantera and Scar Symmetry had a baby this band would be they're creation imo.. pretty good band.. surprised they're not well known
The real fuckin deal
1:17 thats such a sick solo!
they are really good !!! and stop comparing different bands !! All gd artists have "something different" to give!!
How do you figure they broke up?
They just released their new CD Oblivion Beckons...
they broke up because they couldn't catch a break, they kept getting screwed (and continue to get screwed). for example, they were going on tour with Gizmachi(whom were playing Ozzfest that very year) and also Six Feet Under, but SFU backed out of the tour the last minute and fucked em over. plus they had families and bills that needed paying with "real" jobs.
Where is the fuckin amazingly face melting solo after the breakdown ?
@krosgood they are broke up dude they did there like 3 fairwell shows back in march im pretty sure there done..theres talk of them getting back together but nothing is confirmed yet
i know they hella need a justica vid
Just wondered how they got their name, whether any of them has byzantine origin?
does this thing have a melody?
are they trying to say im a maid?
booyah w va metal at its finest
hes talkin about the solo lol
@TheSunMoon Progressive/Experimental Thrash would probs be the best way to describe the
What ever happened to these guys?
they probably got with a low grade record label and then got alittle better one and broke up,but if you really want to know go to there myspace page and ask them.
@tomdbeddig95 how about Groove metal? Or "Go-Fuck-The-Genre-I-Like-The-Music" metal
Motorhead isn't a groove metal band. Maybe you were thinking Machine Head?
I think it's called Groove-Metal
@dime6664ever i think "as the palaces burn" is by far log's best album followed by new american gospel... there newer shit doesnt sound that good to me....
:( wheres the rest? at 3:17 i was like 0_0 tf?
Judging by the video I guess its something about death?
