    Just bought this bag over the summer and it's been a great addition to my setup. Convenient and spacious make for a remarkable bag that really stands up to the rough conditions I ride through.

      Great that you like it. Have you had any problems with the retaining system working loose?

      @@noneatall9534 Pretty much the same for me. Great bag that works well but it can't be loaded with to much weight.

    Superb video! Very clear demonstration of how to mount it. I’m not sure I could follow the instructions Ortlieb provides.
    Question: as you may know, Ortlieb has now come out with a separate QR mounting system that any of their bags can attach to. Based on your experience, would you recommend getting one QR mount to use with several bikes, or instead a separate fixed mounting system for each bike?
    How would you compare how firmly the QR system holds the Handlebar Pack to how firmly the fixed mounting system holds the Ultimate?
    And how much of a hassle would it be to move the QR mounting bracket from one bike to another? Is it simple and easy enough? Or would it be so inconvenient that you’d probably prefer having a separate mounting bracket for each bike?

      I am still using the bag and must say that I prefer it compared to the new one with a separate mounting system. I like being able to move the bag between different bikes. That said, it is nowhere as solid as the fixed system from the Ultimate but I just don't load too much weight into it.
      If you don't change or have as many bikes as I do then it would be more solid with the new version ( I imagine, I haven't tested it myself).

    Hello, I know it's not the intended purpose of this bag but I'm trying to find a bag to double-down on commuting and bike-packing. Will a 13" MacBook Air fit in one of these? The width of the bag is listed as 32cm and my laptop is 30cm wide but not sure what that looks like in reality. Thanks!

      It should fit but only just, not sure that I would recommend it but I haven’t had a chance to try to use it with a laptop.

    Great review. Question.. how do you compare this to say a ortlieb six plus? From the video, I assume you so not take the bag inside your tent regularly at the end of each day? And simply empty the contents?

    • @wombat.vision
      @wombat.vision  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Ortlieb 6 Plus is very much more of a classic touring bike bag. It has a quick release but a mounting system that is more permanent. It is also a little bit smaller.
      I usually leave the Handlebar bag on the bike and only take out what I need for the night, just as you suggest.
      The Handlebar bag is much easier to move between bikes, even though the 6 Plus is much easier to remove and replace on a bike that has the quick release mounted...
      :)
      In a lot of ways the bags are very similar, at the same time that they are very different!
      I have and use both and feel that that the 6 Plus is more suited to "classic" bike touring and the Handlebar bag is more of a bikepacking bag. That said, both are excellent and can be used for almost any type of touring.

    What do you think could be a reasonable maximum weight in this bag? I have a relatively smal camera and only one Lens.
    All in my camera gear should be bellow one kg i think

    •  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not sure if I can tell you a max weight but a small camera and lens should not be any problem. I carried a Panasonic S5 with a 20-60 zoom and a 50mm 1.8 which worked but was starting to get a bit heavier than I liked in the bag.

    I assume the bag has kept water outside. There is only one strap in the middle of the bag for closing it, nothing on the sides. For example Ortlieb panniers have the shoulder strap attached to the ends of the "roll", and you could also just fasten the ends to each other. I'm bad at explaining but I hope you got the idea.
    On your video I noticed that you tried to fix the sides a couple of times, at 1:28 and 3:24 and wondered if that was a problem on your trip.
    I was worried about the mounting system, looked a bit flimsy at first but if it has lasted 5000km for you then I guess it's nothing to worry about.
    Good review, thanks!

    • @wombat.vision
      @wombat.vision  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right that it can be slightly difficult to close the bag so that it is waterproof if it is full. The roll closure needs to be rolled 3 times to be completely waterproof and I often found myself packing just a bit too much into the bag. But when closed properly it really is completely waterproof, like all gear from Ortlieb.
      The mounting system has continued to work well but is not up to carrying too much of a load. I would not use it as a camera bag for example.

    thank you! nice review! two thinksw Im wondering: If its packed to max its quite high and im worried that gets annoying that the view im front of you is partially blocked...and the ropes look so thin that I kinda cant imagine that this will hold forever ^^

    • @wombat.vision
      @wombat.vision  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, if you load it up fully it can get tall but it is possible to angle it downward. How much depends on your bike and bar setup.
      The mounting ropes look thin but I had no problem with durability despite probably having too much weight in the bag when I was using it to carry my camera equipment.

    Where do you put lights?

    • @wombat.vision
      @wombat.vision  ปีที่แล้ว

      To be truthful, I don't use lights all that often. If I do, I have them mounted on the handlebar or use my headlamp mounted on my helmet.

    Can I know what tent and sleeping bag do you have to fit in the bag?

    • @wombat.vision
      @wombat.vision  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been using a Z-Packs Duplex tent and a Thermarest Vesper -6 quilt along with a Exped Synmat UL LW sleeping pad, with pump sack. That all fits into the Handlebar Pack.

      @@christophesaboureau2252 No, not on this trip, I used the extra flexible poles that are available and make the tent more or less self-standing. I have used tracking poles for the tent when I use it while hiking though. Great that it is usable both ways.
