Pippen had the opportunity to lead the Bulls for 2 seasons when Jordan retired in 93. He was the star of the team, and in my opinion the best player in the league in the 1993/94 season. He deserved the MVP.
+Kizer Sosei The dream was behind Russell, and even Mutumbo, in terms of sheer defense and soaking up the paint and forcing players into bad shots and bad layups... I love the Dream, but stats don't tell the whole story - there's more to it than that, a lot more. And this guys post is clearly correct - best all-round defender ever, because he could cover everywhere and was easily the best at blocking or threatening the lanes and drives, also the best recovery defender and easily the best fast break defender ever. Could step into the paint against big guys on recovery switches (something Payton obviously is unable to do) and could defend the same areas Payton defended unlike the Dream (obviously the Dream can't cover the perimeter)... Best is hard to say in a hypothetical situation, but he was my fav as a kid, so I personally agree but understand that most don't His dunk over Ewing is immortal
No he couldn't have. I know he was 3rd in MVP voting in 94, and led his team in all 5 major statistical categories in 95, but the big guys in Shaq, Hakeem & Admiral, were easily more impressive overall. Pippen to me was about the same overall level as Ewing & Stockton, great, but all the surrounding pieces have to be near perfect to win a championship w/ him as either your #1 option, or best player on the team.
@@arsonhakobyan1994/1995 I tought was his best season especially during the first 65 games when Jordan was still retired they lost their best two big men to free agency Horace grant and Scott Williams and Ron Harper who played well besides Jordan during the three peat but because of his knees was not he same offensive player he was and if you took pippen off that team during the first 65 games that Jordan was retired they would have been one of the worst teams in the league the bulls was the 6 seed in the east and was 34/31 when Jordan came back
@@bobby19761994 Stats don't necessarily show everything, but they do matter. If your stats suck, you can't be great. But 92 Pippen at 26, was the 2nd option on a 67 win team, w/ all of his peak athleticism still intact, outplayed Drexler in the Finals if you ask me. Why should 92 Pippen be punished for his team being great? Who they also lost from the 1st 3peat after 94, were Billy Cartwright & Stacey King on the front line, and John Paxson, although you could argue that Pax was already replaced w/ Steve Kerr. They actually lost Cliff Levingston, Bobby Hansen & Craig Hodges off the bench after 92, as their bench wasn't as deep in 93, plus they were a bit fatigued, thus they won 10 fewer games, lucked out a bit against the Suns & Knicks. And the # of games a series goes doesn't always tell nearly the whole story about how close or not close a series was either. But while Pippen was great but not amazing during the 93 regular season, he did come up really huge in all of the departments against the Knicks in Conference Finals. Acquiring swingman Toni Kukoc after 93 helped to keep them competitive in 94, amidst the Jordan gambling suspension, but they did lose too much on the front line against a Magic team that featured Shaq + Ho Grant, since Kukoc is all finesse, and being that the Magic also feature talented perimeter players themselves, just Jordan coming back, wasn't quiet enough, although they still would've beaten the Magic pre-Rodman if not for the Nick Anderson miracle steal at end of Game 1 to Penny Hardaway. But while Pippen kept a depleted dynasty afloat in 95, I don't know how one could just assume that the 92 Pippen couldn't have done the same thing, if thrust into the same situation.
Pippen will forever be the most underrated player of all time. I question ESPN talking drones who have become a plague for sports history as they rewrite it one segment at a time.
The two deadliest fastbreak players in the history of the game, Jordan and Pippen - on the same team!! Drexler was given the nickname that Pippen became the best ever at - GLIDE. Clyde deserved it because it rhymed, but no one glides like Pippen - no one! The master of the 'one dribble/four steps to the hoop' from half court on the break - traffic or no traffic!
+DJ Rod B It was great watching magic run his TEAMS on fast breaks - nothing like it... however, Pippen or Jordan , together or alone, could slash with deadly speed to the hoop, often through multiple defenders... they had the option of going for the poster if the fast break pass wasn't available OR if they just felt like making a highlight instead of going for the standard fast break pass (Magic didn't have that crazy deadly ability) - either way, they were faster and with such few steps and often only one dribble - ONE DRIBBLE - from the half court line when they take it alone to get the job done... they had the option of dunking from waaay out or passing.. magic couldn't do that ALONE with the same deadliness, he ran an incredible quarterback style and could often finish with the best finesse ever seen when he faked the pass, but my post discussed deadliest, as in YOU CAN"T STOP ME IF I PASS OR DON"T PASS, whereas Magic was able to be stopped oftentimes if he didn't pass - no disrespect to Magic... I agree with you that his team fast break was the most exciting globetrotter style ever, but in terms of sheer crushing speed and unstoppability, Pippen and Jordan are incomparable with their athleticism and efficiency on the break... i watched years of showtime80's and the bulls 90's and they are different style fastbreaks, so we are debating the wrong thing here.. I'm only discussing the aspect of sheer penetration deadliness, as in "get the fuck out of the way or you are guaranteed in a poster" type of fastbreak..
Paul Sokoloff yeah, but not really Pippen and Jordan were more known for one on one, Jordan or Pippen wasn't known for rebounds and kicks, not saying they didn't do it, Magic could have been a unstoppable scorer if he wanted too, but he was smart and used his team more then anybody else did. for easy points instead of forcing shot after shot, he used everyone around him, that way the Lakers was almost unbeatable,
Yes, the Lakers went to 9 finals with Magic because of his quarterback ability, and he's one of the greatest players to play, so what's your point in bringing that discussion to my blog when I'm strictly talking about DEADLY fast break, traffic or no traffic... you talk about forcing shots, Lakers are unbeatable, bla bla bla - your're certainly in the wrong blog buddy
pippen was way better in game dunker, wayy better..tmac doesnt have alot of good in game i think because he didnt want the contact..i think tmax probbaly only has 10 or 20 max good in game dunks for his career, while pippen would have that in a season

It was because of Pippen that Jordan stayed on top of his game; it's known, that they did go 1 on 1 all the time in practice. Pippen was better known for his Speed, but mostly for his Defense. He was always in the running for Defensive MVP. And Jordan had to Defend him, meaning Jordan's Defense also got better.

Scottie Pippen vs Klay Thompson
Scottie Winner!
thats not even close all klay can do is shoot and guard with help D, pippen could do it all..klay is a ok defender when there;s help and team D, pippen doesnt need help and great D
I would like to see that sugary sweet championship Defense of the Miami heat vs the bulls of old.. Testimony to Miami but glory to the Bulls
Hope Lebron see this video. Scottie is better than Lebron
Hell yeah!!
It was because of Pippen that Jordan stayed on top of his game;
it's known, that they did go 1 on 1 all the time in practice.
Pippen was better known for his Speed, but mostly for his Defense.
He was always in the running for Defensive MVP.
And Jordan had to Defend him, meaning Jordan's Defense also got better.
