    My first HI FI component was a Sony TA-1130 integrated amp that I bought in 1975 when I was in the Navy. I would put it's specs against any amp made today.

    Craigslist has one for $250.00 he says it's like new but we've heard that before when buying vintage electronics haven't we. My question "is it worth it?"
    I have a signal generator a scope an AC MV meter along with 2 frequency generators a fluke 8060a and a DC Power supply. I work on cassette decks and car stereos mainly and have yet to re-cap my old Onkyo 7070 amp. I guess I'm a little gun shy of amps and I don't really know why. Anyway great visual on the video and this particular model doesn't look too intimidating as you have room to work unlike a car stereo.
    Thanks for the video and keep em coming as retirement is getting closer for me and that means buying and repairing the stuff I grew up loving.

      Your welcome and thank you for the kind words. Nice, your TA E-7B is a great preamp! Sony made some wonderful equipment day in the day. I have a Sony Esprit TA-E901 Preamp in my collection also. Someday I'll get a video up of her. Thanks again and good luck on finding the N7B amp.

    I've never owned a Sony stereo intergrated amplifier.have listened to them the sound is great.I notice that another brand like sony named Technics hardly get reconized much in the audio world these days.Mach 3 speakers back in the 80's was my envy..and when I got older I was able to build my own setup.The boom box and Sony walkman brings back good memories.

    • @vintageaudioaddict
      @vintageaudioaddict  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing. Yes, this equipment brings back mostly good memories for folks. Your correct about Technics that they don't get a lot of respect for their vintage equipment but their open reel tape decks have a large following. I have a SE-9600P Technics power amplifier that is built like a tank and that I really like.

    lovely. i have a few sony units with the pulse locked power supply. they all work, but i don't use them because i really get anxious about using them without changing the caps in the pps first. i do use a big hefty ta-f444esx as a daily driver though. sony made great integrateds for decades.

      Thanks. Sony is forgotten many times but they made some really good gear. Yes, those power supplies can be an issue as being sealed up they go through a lot of heat stress.

    Hello, thank you very much for your very well-informed video. I would like to ask you if I change the 2200uf 50v capacitors for 5600uf 63V capacitors can I get better performance at low frequencies? I have already recapped the power stage. The power supply is fine, it accommodates the 98 volts indicated by the manufacturer. I have a TA-F6B model, Canada version, 120v.

    Hello! I have got the same amplifier on prevention now. How did you fit big KEMET capacitor leads into the board? They don't match with holes on the board.

    Another solid video. Interesting that the PCBs poke out from the front panel; haven't seen that before. Also interesting to see an amp manufacturer using a switching power supply from that era. It's common now, though. I may, however, be somewhat biased because you tend to use Steely Dan for your sound checks ... Thanks, as always.

    • @vintageaudioaddict
      @vintageaudioaddict  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your welcome and thanks for the kind words. Sony made some solid gear back in the day. As you said SMPS''s are common place now a days. I did a little research and it seems that Hewlett Packard first used one of these supplies in a calculator in 1972. So when this Sony TA-F6B was designed it was still a pretty new technology.

    • @richardspada4430
      @richardspada4430 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steely Dan records were used in the late seventies and early eighties and beyond, because of the sound quality. I remember an audio store using the album for a demonstration of a Tandberg 2080 receiver, and a Denon turntable, and ADS L 880 pair of speakers. And my love for audio, and becoming an Audiophile was born!! I haven't looked back.

    Hi There, came across your channel by good luck, I have a Sony TA-F5A - the baby brother of yours, had it for about 4 years. Bought it off Ebay for about £150 (UK), I use it regularly with no issues apart from a the left channel is about 10% quieter than the right. It runs quite warm but not hot. It has a similar PSU I think "Pulse Power Supply", is that the same possibly?
    Anyway I really love it, the analogue VU's are a delight and the sound is really smooth and clear, though I use a Rega pre-amp for my turntable, only because I can transfer some of my rarer records to digital (it has a USB output). I think the Rega pre-amp is a slight improvement with a brighter more detailed sound than the built in Sony Phono stage.
    I''ve never taken the lid off so can't say what it's like inside, I'm not equipped with the skill set though I have thought about getting it serviced. Will be checking out your other stuff, great channel.

    Did you ever go as far as purchasing a wire wrap tool? I work on audio equipment all the time and haven't brought myself to purchase one . It is nice when there is enough wire to pull the boards out , but sometimes with short wires, you need to disconnect them. They're too pricey and I just do the best I can without one .

    • @vintageaudioaddict
      @vintageaudioaddict  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most folks if they break a wire they strip a little new wire and then use the soldering iron to put it back. Just don't use any of the wire that was wrapped on the pin. If you don't over bend them they rarely break.

    • @kgsalvage6306
      @kgsalvage6306 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vintageaudioaddict I strip a little more wire and hand wrap it back on. If you take your time and use a pair of hemostats you can get it fairly tight. If I don't think it's tight enough, I will hit it with just a little solder.

    Dear Sir,
    I have a Sony TA-F60 with the right channel issue : the voltage at the C of Q213 and Q214 is always -8,0V, so the protection relay do not work. I turn the RT201 to maximum but it can not reach 0V.
    All orther voltages are ok.
    Could you please advice me some solutions?
    Sorry for my bad English
    Thank you in advance.
    P/S: I have the service manual of this amp. If you need I will send you via email

    I got a Sony TA-N77ES from a friend who hasn't used in 20 years. .... .... .... My first issue is, when plugged in it automatically turns on and the on/off switch will not turn it off. Is this most likely the switch, or could it be something else?
    Also I tried inputting sound from a cd player and get nothing from speakers. Not sure if I am doing this correctly. Does not look like what I am used to. It has no headphone jack to try that.
    Was told these need new caps when original still there. Also heard it may cost as much as it's worth or more.

    • @vintageaudioaddict
      @vintageaudioaddict  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Congrats on owning a Sony TA-N77ES, I wish I had one in my collection. Yes, it sounds like the power switch is defective. Using your CD player at the input jacks on the amp should work with you using the volume controls at the front of the amp to control the loudness. The amp is 30+ years old and so it certainly could be broken. You may need to find a technician to look at it. Old vintage audio equipment is a lot like old vintage cars. A lot of times it may not be cost effective to repair them unless you just like what you have. Good Luck!
