It might have been a good idea to show us the squad before you start analysing it.
That way they can't trick you into keep watching this.

The stupidity of having an England squad announcement video without actually seeing the squad!! What a f’in waste of 12min that was!!
12 min is plenty of time to google it
Was about to say the same thing. Awful editing.
Thanks for saving me 12 minutes, your message was the 2nd I seen so thank you
might have been a good idea to pick tyrick mitchell, an actual english LB that has played 36 games this year in the prem and in good form.
Nah he’s not good enough
@@nathanwait9514 Statistics would say otherwise.
Reece James?? He played 1 game and been sent off after being out all season lol
Exactly I don't understand their point.

@@18xDJHxis he though?? Hardly played this season and got two red cards. For that alone I wouldn’t put him in the squad
I dont see why Tyrick Mitchell couldn't just play there. I would rather have him there than an out of position (and out of form) Trippier there.
Tournament experience. More chemistry/understanding on the pitch. Set piece taker depending on if trent starts
Have to give Southgate kudos for leaving out Rashford, Henderson & Phillips
Rashford has been on poor form and has pretty much outstayed his welcome at United. Henderson is 33 and should be retired from international duty at least. Kalvin Phillips, funny how he was hardly playing for city and still got picked for England and now recently Southgate isn’t picking him. Good to see he wised up but what made Southgate change his mind I wonder?
Kudos for what?...
Thats not a hard decision

And Sterling, James and Chilwell
Reece James has TAA, Walker and Trippier in his position, who's Luke Shaw's competition at LB? It's a sound decision.
Always happen with some England fans being thick & complaining about Maguire being in the squad & then compare him to a winger 😂
No English LB comes close to Shaw, will be a massive loss if he isn't fit
@@jackninetynine5036 yeah but in maguires position ya have stones , tomori , gomez , colwill , smalling , branthwate , dunk , guehi , ya can also play walker rcb in a 3 or white in a 3

@@darrylbrookes2780 majority of those are right footed. Smalling really? Whites literally refused to be called up & hasn’t played at CB for 2 years, dunks had a worse season. Maguire has the experience & there’s not a left CB good enough to warrant displacing him
Merson hasn't got a scooby doo what he's talking about.

Credit to Gareth for making the big decision of leaving out Rashford. Very strong squad. My only point of contention is Grealish being in the squad, I don't think he's earned a place
Do you think he will make it to the final squad
@@OGCHuila not sure. Will be unfortunate if he does and Eze/Gordon miss out
Harvey Elliot needs to be there

I think its fair that Jack gets a shot in 'training' to show Southgate. If not he should get dropped
Why would he bring James to play 10 minutes then get injured for 1 year
The biggest shock for me is being shocked that Southgate hasn’t got a clue what he is doing
Kaveh made a good point about the 33-26 man squad cut. Southgate did some good man management
Please don’t bring Paul Merson on for tactical football takes. Saying Gomez doesn’t have experience against top wingers. You understand he was easily Liverpools best defensive fullback this year? Bro has more experience in big games than almost every other full back we have to offer. Crazy take.
And he defends vs Salah, Nunez, Diaz, Gakpo, Jota and all the other great players everyday in training as well, that guy had no clue what he was talking about

Gotta change to a back 3. 3-2-4-1. Solves alot. Get two defensive pivots supporting defence and can potentally have two 10's Jude/Foden in their prefered position.
could even have Saka wing back if needs be
With what players? You don't even got two good (enough) central defendesr, let alone 3. And two defensive pivots? Declan Rice and ...?

England are washed and cursed regardless, there hasn't been a manager in fifty years who could get them over the line, and there clearly isn't one ready or to come either. Easy to blame one decent man in one moment in time, for the failings of an entire system.
No point following football without hope. I bet you thought we'd never get to to a final but we have. Southgate's contract is up soon so who else should they get that they can win with?
Reece James getting himself sent off the other day was what I would say cost him. You can't have that liability in an international tournament
Lewis Hall LB at nufc has been on fire the last 5 weeks seems to be reborn, his recent finish against Man U👌. Id invite him like Warthon to see if he could rip it up in training.

He's the best passer and crosser of the ball in the squad. He's too good to leave out
@@LUFC123 no you've misunderstood. I'm not suggesting not taking trent, thst would be silly to not take him. All I'm saying is why are we acting as if he's a midfielder when he's never started or played "central midfield" in his life agaisnt decent opposition and performed well there. Don't mention that he drifts into there for Liverpool and does well because starting at right back and inverting is completely different to starting and playing in the 8 postion. Henderson
Walker Maguire Shaw
Wharton Rice

R.James is too injury prone. Regardless we have Walker, Trippier, Trent & Gomez would can cover RB. Was the right decision to leave him out imo
Only contender there is walker, james a cut above the rest, injury prone is not a reason to left out a player,if you said lack of game time that would make sense.
@@hahahaha-nt3yn I'd argue Trippier is also a better full back, definitely offensively. Being injury prone is definitely a valid reason to leave someone out. The guy has missed 25 games this season via injury so by proxy he's had a lack of game time
@@michael43567 but the games trippier he has played in he has been average at best
@michael43567 yeah you can argue, but we all know james is better,..injury prone is different from being injury, anyone can get injury, even players who have never get injury in their entire career.he could have select james and walker and walker get injury in his first game and james play the entire championship without getting injury. point in he's not injury at the moment so you don't know what's going to happened in the future.
@@hahahaha-nt3yn look up what "prone" means
I hope Wharton makes the plane I think he could make a tremendous difference with allowing deep lying chance creation to everyone further forward by playing simple yet smart football. Something a bit different from a squad mostly filled with stars
Fikayo Tomori should have been selected over Quansah or Branthwaite. I guess playing for AC Milan means nothing to Southgate.
I hope Southgate plays 4-2-3-1 with Foden directly behind Kane. Given the season he’s just had he has to be in the same position he plays for his club.
You know Foden comes in off the left for his club with de bruyne down the middle???
@@dylanbishop4175 - De Bruyne was out injured for nearly six months this past season and Foden played in the middle. Southgate played 4-2-3-1 tonight so maybe he’s got Foden behind Kane in mind for when the first team is available next week.

The mere fact that Southgate won’t budge to media pressure is BOSS for me. Yes there are a few options that raise eyebrows, but people just have to trust the Coach's decision on the best squad to take to the Euros.
England have a good squad and a good chance of winning to me they have all the talent in world a of football ball the problem England have is the manager he doesn’t give the players freedom to express themselves if he just let the players express themselves just a little bit more England win the euros and for me in Europe England is my favorite team to win

I'd be happy with Trippier at left back. Can also hit a free kick.
Very well done analyst. Good job guys.

The very first time we tried, we invested $1000 and after a week, we received $4500. That really helped us a lot to pay up our bills.
Michael Olise was born in Hammersmith, London, Kaveh.
We always get wrong at the final minute. The coach has over looked pass all the efforts Rushford put in during the qualifier.
Refreshing to see Southgate leave his old ways behind think it’s a fantastic selection all round, let’s get behind him!
Best thing to come out of the euros will be the fact its southgates last one. We need a much better coach. We are wasting arguably the most talented squad we have
Chill well at left back??
There are other players at LB. We have very few at LB.
Sterling and Sancho deserve a place 👀
Merson is spot on in many aspects. Especially about Reece James. Last season against us (Palace) he was the only player that could cope with Zaha and had him in his pocket.
Plus he was right about Olise. Born and brought up in Hammersmith ENGLAND. He is English.
I don't understand why nobody is talking about playing Stones as DM with Rice and Bellingham in midfield. City literally did the treble with Stones at DM, and Rice is better when he can push forward. A five of Foden, Rice, Stones, Bellingham, Saka would be incredibly balanced.
Because then who is playing CB
Exactly what I was gonna ask
Because stones inverted from centre back to dm. It's actually a genius shout if England had a higher calibre of experienced center back but they don't

England have a problem in LB and Rice is the only top quality CM.
If Foden must start (likely LW) the width has to come from the LB and only Shaw-who is injured ,provides width.
Branthwaite is the other left-footer but he is a CB.
TAA will have to partner Rice in the pivot if England must be proactive.

Doughty from Luton does he qualify? Think his a good season and his been very consistent at lwb for Luton good crosser and can defend

Joe Gomez can play left back.
He can but it's fair point it's going to be tough against better teams if he has to stop Mbappé, Lamine Yamal or a Musiala or Sane. Then playing out of position could be very problematic not just for him but for England.

Merson “Trent is a defender at international level”
Trent with 3 UCL final appearances and a premiership league medal
Slothgate will play Trippier at left back
Pretty sure Joe Gomez pocketed Saka England's best right winger when he played left back. This international is another level is nonsense best players in the world are in europe/prem. He might struggle against any right footed natural RW but any left footers that come into have a shot are massively disadvantaged against a right footed CB playing at LB
Could have had Dan burn or Lewis Hall for left back lol? 😜
Gomez should start lb hes been quality all season
James and Olise missing. Ward-Prowse should have been an option off the bench.
Can't see any point in taking Shaw. He'll likely miss the cut which leaves us with no designated left back. We need to ditch fullbacks and go for a 3-2-4-1 system utilising our strengths, which are in attack. Here's my team in that formation: Pickford, Stones, Maguire, Branthwaite, Rice, Mainoo, Saka, Bellingham, Foden, Palmer, Kane. I picked Maguire because Southgate tends to never leave him out. I'd have preferred Ben White in there but that's not happening.
Problem for pundits like merson is they still act like international football is the gold standard and it just isnt, club football is the elite level now
Well…Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy would beg to differ.
@@calinho7689no it’s true. The defenses get no time to train or gel so not much opposition in international football. Also most of these top teams in Europe are better than the teams you listed. eto played as a defender for Mourinho when no one was available, rashford might be a left back option!!!
Well obviously there’s a lot of right backs and we don’t have many left backs…Reiss James has to many injuries
I can't believe that Shaw and Chilwell are the only specialist left backs in England, and we'll be relying on either Gomez (a centre half) and Trippier (an out-of-form right back) in their absence.
mitchel shd have been called
We have got the players, just not the manager. Southgate will bottle it at some stage.
How many times do I hear we've got the players for years n years nearly every tournament n still they win nothing ... Realistically there are some good players but most of them are average
tyrick mitchell is a good shout ngl, class baller
Well 2006 England 🏴 World Cup squad had Owen in attack, Ferdinand and Terry in defence, Beckham, Gerrard and Lampard in Midfield and still looked very ordinary, no coordination, incomplete passes etc. I mean Fodden, Jude and Palmer might not work out well due to egos, but if there's some chemistry amongst them that we don't know then we may have the best squad I've seen in World football in a very long time. And yes, these 3 are better than the Beckham, Lampard, Gerrard trio. I'm not even English, just an observer from a land so far away
Hear me out, I know Beckham had precice passes, and was a deadball expert. Gerrard could dribble through from deep in the midfield and create chances for others, he was an excellent tackler too, Lampard could hit the long range shots and always scored. Palmer is Beckham, Jude is Gerrard and Fodden is Lampard. Only difference is the latter mentioned have done it all at a very young age

Don't need to worry about Trippier left back.
Does Anyone Remember Harry Kane at Spurs, 2022 England Euros & Bayern Munich 😅
can paul merson pick his all time greats england team.for the fans please.
I'd try something different for once if I were Southgate. I'd play a 4-4-2 with Kane and Watkins upfront, Kane can drop deep when he feels like it and try and play a through ball or pass over the top, Watkins doesn't stop running and he's also proved that he can grab an assist. Kane can't be on his own up front all the time because against the top teams like France, it's too easy. I'd play Foden on the left and Palmer or Saka on the right, slightly ahead of Rice and Bellingham in central midfield. As for the defenders, they're usually what let us down along with poor tactics, so I don't think it matters who goes where in that department to be honest. We won't win the Euros anyway but that's just what I would do when it comes to attack/midfield 🤷♂ Harry Kane and Watkins upfront would prove to be a very big problem for EVERY team we face in the Euros. Over 80 goal contributions if you combine both of their goals and assists this season, but Southgate isn't that intelligent and insists on only playing one striker.
We need to play 3-4-2-1
Trent not good enough at international level but good enough against teams like city who would beat any international team. Madness he is one of the best footballers in the world.
I find it funny that they keep saying would not play Trent because he has not faced World Class teams....so him playing in the Prem, CL, EL means he is playing lesser teams? He will come across a good chunk of the players in the season anyways... I get the argument that international football is different but the ability does not disappear...
reminds me of a young gareth barry?? right well thats that then he'll be RIPPIN up training
Our front 3 must be Eze, Kane and Foden. 👍
England should use the 3-4-2-1 formation
Be interesting to see what this new generation of England players would have won with a decent manager.
Why is Karveh there haha
Reece James hasn't played much this season and after returning he's picked up red cards. That's a player not match fit. Trent was selected as a midfielder not defender.

I think we can do it but it won’t beast Germany are at home forget form and France are still good
How does luke Shaw make the squad?
Sometimes I do wonder where he gets these ideas from
Don’t take a player who is injured and might be fit for knock out stages, even if fit won’t be match fit
Pickford
Trippier/Gomez Stones Maguire Walker
Rice Bellingham
Saka Foden Palmer
Kane
This allows Foden to play in the middle, aswell as getting Cole Palmer into the lineup. left back is the main question mark, as luke shaw will probably be injured. rashford imo should have been taken as a pace option even though he has had a bad season, aside from Walker no one in the whole squad has much pace. palmer is out of position but foden must be played in the middle. palmer and foden can swap continously mid game if necessary
I agree, this their best team
Decent side that mate, would have to agree on most picks but I would keep Walker RB and play Trippier or Gomez on the left.
I would also have Jared starting over Maguire. Much better footballer and defender. If he didn't play for Everton, it would be no question that he starts. I would even take Konsa over Maguire.
