Welcome to our video about the nervous system for kids! In this video, we'll be introducing you to the nervous system and explaining how it works.
The nervous system is a complex network of cells, tissues, and organs that helps us to communicate, think, and move. It's made up of two main parts: the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS).
The central nervous system is made up of the brain and the spinal cord. The brain is the control center of the body and it's responsible for thinking, learning, and making decisions. The spinal cord is a long, thin tube of nerve tissue that runs from the brain down through the center of the body. It carries messages between the brain and the rest of the body.
The peripheral nervous system is made up of all the other nerves in the body. It's called the "peripheral" nervous system because it's located on the outer part of the body, or the periphery. The peripheral nervous system is divided into two parts: the somatic nervous system and the autonomic nervous system.
The somatic nervous system is responsible for carrying messages to and from the brain and the muscles and organs of the body. It helps us to move, touch, and sense the world around us.
The autonomic nervous system is responsible for controlling the functions of the body that we don't have to think about, such as breathing, digestion, and heart rate. It's divided into two parts: the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system.
The sympathetic nervous system is responsible for preparing the body for action, such as in response to a threat or a challenge. It's sometimes called the "fight or flight" response.
The parasympathetic nervous system is responsible for helping the body to relax and rest. It's sometimes called the "rest and digest" response.
The nervous system is an amazing system that helps us to communicate, think, and move. It's made up of many different parts, each with its own important function. We hope that you've enjoyed learning about the nervous system!
