The fact that Lechien was able to pass 39 riders in the first moto is a true testament of his natural ability. I was incredibly lucky to witness him absolutely embarrass the rest of the field in 1987 in the first 250cc moto at Southwick Massachusetts. His pace was like nothing I've ever seen before or since from a motocross rider. I've watched the video of this race, but unfortunately, it doesn't translate to being there in person. If the story is true, he took his high school girlfriend to her prom the night before in California and had to catch a red-eye clear across the country and made it just in time for practice. Chances are he did it with a raging hangover, which makes it even more incredible.

@@zacharyldalziel7569 More power and more weight, a 450 YZ with gas is 250 pounds, the YZ250 is 215 dry.. In my opinion the 4 stroke needs more flywheel effect.

500cc 2 stroke for a full moto! The fitness level of the top guys Ward, RJ etc had to have been amazing to race one of those beasts.
Ward was a such a hard worker his regiment got him where he is the smallest guy and wins a 500 championship!!!
