I think i redirected my energy in the wrong direction. I have eliminated things i used to find false joy in and replaced with Facebook and utube. They are draining instead of rejuvenating for the most part. Time to reevaluate!

I have a thrift store where I have found many treasures. Lately I donate bags and bags of things. Hardly buy. Im more selective. I realize I have everything I need. I still feel great when I declutter. Nature,or a cup of coffee I ground, make me happy.

I don't buy cheap. But I buy way less crap. I'm more intentional with my spending. Also very calming walking into my house after work and feeling great because things aren't cluttered.

My husband and I sold or gave away everything we owned. Then we moved to Hawaii. We are happy living as minimalist for one year now.

I went shopping with my mother for the first time in 40 years - she is 90. We went to Walmart for groceries. He car was at the mechanics so she needed me to drive her. She had a list. We went in. She knew where everything she wanted was. She got her stuff. She checked herself out. We were there for less than 10 minutes. She grew up during the depression and always knew how to handle money.

      25. We sent Noah to his people, “I am to you a clear warner.”
      26. “That you shall worship none but Allah. I fear for you the agony of a painful Day.”
      27. The notables who disbelieved among his people said, “We see in you nothing but a man like us, and we see that only the worst among us have followed you, those of immature judgment. And we see that you have no advantage over us. In fact, we think you are liars.”
      28. He said, “O my people, Have you considered? If I stand on clear evidence from my Lord, and He has given me a mercy from Himself, but you were blind to it, can we compel you to accept it, even though you dislike it?”
      29. “O my people! I ask of you no money for it. My reward lies only with Allah. And I am not about to dismiss those who believed; they will surely meet their Lord. And I see that you are ignorant people.”
      30. “O my people! Who will support me against Allah, if I dismiss them? Will you not give a thought?”
      31. “I do not say to you that I possess the treasures of Allah, nor do I know the future, nor do I say that I am an angel. Nor do I say of those who are despicable in your eyes that Allah will never give them any good. Allah is Aware of what lies in their souls. If I did, I would be one of the wrongdoers.”
      32. They said, “O Noah, you have argued with us, and argued a great deal. Now bring upon us what you threaten us with, if you are truthful.”
      33. He said, “It is Allah who will bring it upon you, if He wills, and you will not be able to escape.”
      34. “My advice will not benefit you, much as I may want to advise you, if Allah desires to confound you. He is your Lord, and to Him you will be returned.”
      35. Or do they say, “He made it up?” Say, “If I made it up, upon me falls my crime, and I am innocent of the crimes you commit.”
      36. And it was revealed to Noah: “None of your people will believe, except those who have already believed, so do not grieve over what they do.”
      37. “And build the Ark, under Our eyes, and with Our inspiration, and do not address Me regarding those who did wrong; they are to be drowned.”
      38. As he was building the ark, whenever some of his people passed by him, they ridiculed him. He said, “If you ridicule us, we will ridicule you, just as you ridicule.”
      39. “You will surely know upon whom will come a torment that will abase him, and upon whom will fall a lasting torment.”
      40. Until, when Our command came, and the volcano erupted, We said, “Board into it a pair of every kind, and your family-except those against whom the sentence has already been passed-and those who have believed.” But those who believed with him were only a few.
      41. He said, “Embark in it. In the name of Allah shall be its sailing and its anchorage. My Lord is indeed Forgiving and Merciful.”
      42. And so it sailed with them amidst waves like hills. And Noah called to his son, who had kept away, “O my son! Embark with us, and do not be with the disbelievers.”
      43. He said, “I will take refuge on a mountain-it will protect me from the water.” He said, “There is no protection from Allah’s decree today, except for him on whom He has mercy.” And the waves surged between them, and he was among the drowned.
      44. And it was said, “O earth, swallow your waters,” and “O heaven, clear up.” And the waters receded, and the event was concluded, and it settled on Judi, and it was proclaimed: “Away with the wicked people.”
      45. And Noah called to his Lord. He said, “O My Lord, my son is of my family, and Your promise is true, and You are the Wisest of the wise.”
      46. He said, “O Noah, he is not of your family. It is an unrighteous deed. So do not ask Me about something you know nothing about. I admonish you, lest you be one of the ignorant.”
      47. He said, “O My Lord, I seek refuge with You, from asking You about what I have no knowledge of. Unless You forgive me, and have mercy on me, I will be one of the losers.”
      48. It was said, “O Noah, disembark with peace from Us; and with blessings upon you, and upon communities from those with you. And other communities We will grant prosperity, and then a painful torment from Us will befall them.”
      49. These are some stories from the past that we reveal to you. Neither you, nor your people knew them before this. So be patient. The future belongs to the pious.

After seeing family members age or die and what happens to all their “ stuff” I started rethinking my ideas about stuff.. Seeing all the junk people had “ collected “ during their lives and how no one wanted what they had made me see how futile it is to keep buying things you dont use..Now when people ask me what I collect, I tell them ,” I collect money”.

Allah, there is no god but He, the Living, the Eternal.
In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.
      1. Alif, Lam, Meem.
      2. Allah, there is no god but He, the Living, the Eternal.
      3. He sent down to you the Book with the Truth, confirming what came before it; and He sent down the Torah and the Gospel.
      4. Aforetime, as guidance for mankind; and He sent down the Criterion. Those who have rejected Allah’s signs will have a severe punishment. Allah is Mighty, Able to take revenge.
      5. Nothing is hidden from Allah, on earth or in the heaven.
      6. It is He who forms you in the wombs as He wills. There is no god except He, the Almighty, the Wise.
      1. O people! Fear your Lord, who created you from a single soul, and created from it its mate, and propagated from them many men and women. And revere Allah whom you ask about, and the parents. Surely, Allah is Watchful over you.
      16. And mention in the Scripture Mary, when she withdrew from her people to an eastern location.
      17. She screened herself away from them, and We sent to her Our spirit, and He appeared to her as an immaculate human.
      18. She said, “I take refuge from you in the Most Merciful, should you be righteous.”
      19. He said, “I am only the messenger of your Lord, to give you the gift of a pure son.”
      20. She said, “How can I have a son, when no man has touched me, and I was never unchaste?”
      21. He said, “Thus said your Lord, `It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign for humanity, and a mercy from Us. It is a matter already decided.'“
      22. So she carried him, and secluded herself with him in a remote place.
      23. The labor-pains came upon her, by the trunk of a palm-tree. She said, “I wish I had died before this, and been completely forgotten.”
      24. Whereupon he called her from beneath her: “Do not worry; your Lord has placed a stream beneath you.
      25. And shake the trunk of the palm-tree towards you, and it will drop ripe dates by you.”
      26. “So eat, and drink, and be consoled. And if you see any human, say, ‘I have vowed a fast to the Most Gracious, so I will not speak to any human today.'“
      27. Then she came to her people, carrying him. They said, “O Mary, you have done something terrible.
      28. O sister of Aaron, your father was not an evil man, and your mother was not a whore.”
      29. So she pointed to him. They said, “How can we speak to an infant in the crib?”
      30. He said, “I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture, and made me a prophet.
      31. And has made me blessed wherever I may be; and has enjoined on me prayer and charity, so long as I live.
      32. And kind to my mother, and He did not make me a disobedient rebel.
      33. So Peace is upon me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the Day I get resurrected alive.”
      34. That is Jesus son of Mary-the Word of truth about which they doubt.
      35. It is not for Allah to have a child-glory be to Him. To have anything done, He says to it, “Be,” and it becomes.
      36. “Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is a straight path.”
      37. But the various factions differed among themselves. So woe to those who disbelieve from the scene of a tremendous Day.
      38. Listen to them and watch for them the Day they come to Us. But the wrongdoers today are completely lost.
      39. And warn them of the Day of Regret, when the matter will be concluded. Yet they are heedless, and they do not believe.
      40. It is We who will inherit the earth and everyone on it, and to Us they will be returned.
      41. And mention in the Scripture Abraham. He was a man of truth, a prophet.
      42. He said to his father, “O my father, why do you worship what can neither hear, nor see, nor benefit you in any way?
      43. O my father, there has come to me knowledge that never came to you. So follow me, and I will guide you along a straight way.
      44. O my father, do not worship the devil. The devil is disobedient to the Most Gracious.
      45. O my father, I fear that a punishment from the Most Gracious will afflict you, and you become an ally of the devil.”
      46. He said, “Are you renouncing my gods, O Abraham? If you do not desist, I will stone you. So leave me alone for a while.”
      47. He said, “Peace be upon you. I will ask my Lord to forgive you; He has been Kind to me.
      48. And I will withdraw from you, and from what you pray to instead of Allah. And I will pray to my Lord, and I hope I will not be disappointed in my prayer to my Lord.”
      49. When he withdrew from them, and from what they worship besides Allah, We granted him Isaac and Jacob. And each We made a prophet.
      50. And We gave them freely of Our mercy, and gave them a noble reputation of truth.
      51. And mention in the Scripture Moses. He was dedicated. He was a messenger and a prophet.
      52. And We called him from the right side of the Mount, and brought him near in communion.
      53. And We granted him, out of Our mercy, his brother Aaron, a prophet.
      54. And mention in the Scripture Ishmael. He was true to his promise, and was a messenger, a prophet.
      55. And he used to enjoin on his people prayer and charity, and he was pleasing to his Lord.
      56. And mention in the Scripture Enoch. He was a man of truth, a prophet.
      57. And We raised him to a high position.
      58. These are some of the prophets Allah has blessed, from the descendants of Adam, and from those We carried with Noah, and from the descendants of Abraham and Israel, and from those We guided and selected. Whenever the revelations of the Most Gracious are recited to them, they would fall down, prostrating and weeping.
      59. But they were succeeded by generations who lost the prayers and followed their appetites. They will meet perdition.
      60. Except for those who repent, and believe, and act righteously. These will enter Paradise, and will not be wronged in the least.
      61. The Gardens of Eden, promised by the Most Merciful to His servants in the Unseen. His promise will certainly come true.
      62. They will hear no nonsense therein, but only peace. And they will have their provision therein, morning and evening.
      63. Such is Paradise which We will give as inheritance to those of Our servants who are devout.
      64. “We do not descend except by the command of your Lord. His is what is before us, and what is behind us, and what is between them. Your Lord is never forgetful.”
      65. Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them. So worship Him, and persevere in His service. Do you know of anyone equal to Him?
      66. And the human being says, “When I am dead, will I be brought back alive?”
      67. Does the human being not remember that We created him before, when he was nothing?
      68. By your Lord, We will round them up, and the devils, then We will bring them around Hell, on their knees.
      69. Then, out of every sect, We will snatch those most defiant to the Most Merciful.
      70. We are fully aware of those most deserving to scorch in it.
      71. There is not one of you but will go down to it. This has been an unavoidable decree of your Lord.
      72. Then We will rescue those who were devout, and leave the wrongdoers in it, on their knees.
      73. When Our clear revelations are recited to them, those who disbelieve say to those who believe, “Which of the two parties is better in position, and superior in influence?”

      65. Say, “I am only a warner, and there is no god except Allah-the One, the Conqueror.
      66. The Lord of the heavens and the earth, and everything between them; the Mighty, the Forgiver.”
      67. Say, “It is a message of great importance.
      68. From which you are turning away.
      69. I have no knowledge of the Highest Assembly as they dispute.
      70. It is only revealed to me that I am a clear warner.”
      71. Your Lord said to the angels, “I am creating a human being from clay.
      72. When I have formed him, and breathed into him of My spirit, fall prostrate before him.
      73. So the angels fell prostrate, all of them.
      74. Except for Satan. He was too proud, and one of the faithless.
      75. He said, “O Satan, what prevented you from prostrating before what I created with My Own hands? Are you too proud, or were you one of the exalted?”
      76. He said, “I am better than he; You created me from fire, and You created him from clay.”
      77. He said, “Then get out of here! You are an outcast!
      78. And My curse will be upon you until the Day of Judgment.”
      79. He said, “Lord, defer me until the Day they are resurrected.”
      80. He said, “You are one of those deferred.
      81. Until the Day of the Time Appointed.”
      82. He said, “By Your majesty, I will seduce them all.
      83. Except for your loyal servants among them.”
      84. He said, “The truth is, and I say the truth.
      85. I will fill Hell with you, and with every one of them who follows you.”
      86. Say, “I ask of you no wage for this, and I am not a pretender.
      87. It is but a reminder to mankind.
      88. And you will know its message after a while.”
      54. Your Lord is Allah; He who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then established Himself on the Throne. The night overtakes the day, as it pursues it persistently; and the sun, and the moon, and the stars are subservient by His command. His is the creation, and His is the command. Blessed is Allah, Lord of all beings.
      55. Call upon your Lord humbly and privately. He does not love the aggressors.
      56. And do not corrupt on earth after its reformation, and pray to Him with fear and hope. Allah’s mercy is close to the doers of good.
      57. It is He who sends the wind ahead of His mercy. Then, when they have gathered up heavy clouds, We drive them to a dead land, where We make water come down, and with it We bring out all kinds of fruits. Thus We bring out the dead-perhaps you will reflect.
      58. As for the good land, it yields its produce by the leave of its Lord. But as for the bad, it produces nothing but hardship and misery. Thus We explain the revelations in various ways for people who are thankful.
      59. We sent Noah to his people. He said, “O my people! Worship Allah; you have no god other than Him. I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous Day.”
      60. The dignitaries among his people said, “We see that you are in obvious error.”
      61. He said, “O my people, I am not in error, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the Worlds.”
      62. “I deliver to you the messages of my Lord, and I advise you, and I know from Allah what you do not know.”
      63. “Do you wonder that a reminder has come to you from your Lord, through a man from among you, to warn you, and to lead you to righteousness, so that you may attain mercy?”
      64. But they called him a liar. So We saved him and those with him in the Ark, and We drowned those who rejected Our revelations. They were blind people.

That's exactly me, nowadays, after I retired over a year ago. I was a shop addict on luxury. Anywhere I go I came back with shopping bags. Not now anymore. I spend time to exercise, going out enjoy nature, cook my own meals because I fast daily and on diets so restaurants are no more an option. I love talking to people and travel. Now addict to the sun and Nature.

It’s funny the older I get the less amount of stuff I want. I’m getting rid off stuff I no longer need or want and I don’t replace them. It feels good to have less and only keep the things I really love. I used to love shopping but now I rather garden or reorganize my home. I’m saving lots of money by not shopping on stuff I don’t need. I even make an effort to use all the food I buy and reinvent new dishes. I no longer go to malls or other stores to browse. I know just go grocery shopping and buy only the necessary items. It really feels great to have control of my life by just keeping busy on my garden and watching flowers grow and making my own compost. Minimalism is wonderful

I'm 62 years old and plan to retire in 5 years. For the first time in my life, I'm saving for retirement. I won't have much when I retire, but something is better than nothing, and it might support me for even 1 year, allowing me to delay social security until I turn 68. My plan is to hopefully have our mortgage paid off within 4-5 years, then most likely sell the house and purchase a small parcel of land and build a small house, possibly somewhere between 400 sq ft and 650 sq ft. That would enable us to live mostly debt free and support ourselves comfortably. I am in the process of getting rid of things that we don't use regularly. Downsize everything from kitchen items, to furniture, clothing etc. I want to simplify my life, live without financial worries and possibly even be able to travel some. I do have difficulty controlling my clothing purchases though, but I am working on it. I do enjoy the feeling of freedom when there are less objects in my home. It isn't something I can do overnight, but slowly and over time, I hope to succeed and live a much more purposeful and minimalistic lifestyle. I look forward to the day when my time will finally be my own, and I want to learn creative and active ways to spend that precious time. Thank you for this inspirational video.

I have been applying the principles of minimalism in my life for over 10 years now. I have saved all my work income and lived off of my dividends and interests payments for more than a decade. It has allowed me to retire in my mid fifties. I buy mostly what is required like clothing and food. More recently, I have put the emphasis on quality food. Because of the pandemic and rising cost of restaurant meals, we almost never go and eat out. Our home cooked food is so much better for way less money. We take long walks in the woods, long rides on our electric assisted bikes and we always bring a great lunch and find a quiet place to eat. I almost never go to a store other than a grocery store and Costco to buy food and replacement clothes. Life has never been that good. People I associate with have similar values.

Thanks for sharing your values with us. It may take a little while to get my husband on board since he is happiest getting out of the house and using restaurants as a form of entertainment. He even likes shopping at Wal Mart for our groceries and household items!
You have given me hope that our life could be different.

Home cooked food is much better and probably less stress. Where I live many stores are closed and the opened ones no longer carry what I am looking for. I think costco has so many good deals but we have to drive over 30 minutes to get to it. I am very much pro growing your own food. Even if its only 30 percent of what you eat, it still is really helpful to know what you are getting. I fear one day we just will not have the right to know what is in our food. Powers that be are taking too much from nature.

The pandemic caused many of us to evaluate how we were living. I think we mostly saw the treadmill we were on, of working so hard in order to get money to fuel our mindless consumption. We saw that if we consumed less, we could work less and enjoy life more. We discovered the simple and free pleasures again. We saw how so many of our purchases were for show or to “one up” each other. We can stop caring about what others think of us, once we realize how seldom they do.

      13. He prescribed for you the same religion He enjoined upon Noah, and what We inspired to you, and what We enjoined upon Abraham, and Moses, and Jesus: “You shall uphold the religion, and be not divided therein.” As for the idolaters, what you call them to is outrageous to them. Allah chooses to Himself whom He wills, and He guides to Himself whoever repents.
      14. They became divided only after knowledge came to them, out of resentment among themselves. Were it not for a predetermined decision from your Lord, judgment would have been pronounced between them. Indeed, those who were made to inherit the Book after them are in grave doubt about it.
      15. To this go on inviting, and be upright as you were commanded, and do not follow their inclinations, and say, “I believe in whatever Book Allah has sent down, and I was commanded to judge between you equitably. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. We have our deeds, and you have your deeds. Let there be no quarrel between us and you. Allah will bring us together, and to Him is the ultimate return.”
      16. As for those who dispute about Allah after having answered His call, their argument is invalid with their Lord; and upon them falls wrath; and a grievous torment awaits them.
      17. It is Allah who revealed the Book with the truth, and the Balance. And what will make you realize that perhaps the Hour is near?
      18. Those who do not believe in it seek to hasten it; but those who believe are apprehensive of it, and they know it to be the truth. Absolutely, those who question the Hour are in distant error.
      19. Allah is kind towards His worshipers. He provides for whomever He wills. He is the Powerful, the Honorable.
      20. Whoever desires the harvest of the Hereafter, We increase for him his harvest; and whoever desires the harvest of this world, We give him thereof, and he has no share of the Hereafter.
      21. Or is it that they have partners who litigate for them religious laws never authorized by Allah? Were it not for the conclusive decision, it would have been settled between them. The wicked will have a painful punishment.
      22. You will see the unjust terrified of what they have earned, and it will befall them. As for those who believe and do good deeds, they will be in the Meadows of the Gardens; they will have whatever they please in the presence of their Lord; that is the supreme blessing.
      23. That is the good news Allah gives to His servants who believe and do good deeds. Say, “I ask of you no wage for it, except affection among the near of kin.” Whoever does a good deed, We will increase its goodness for him. Allah is Forgiving and Appreciative.

I go true my closet and I lot of things with the price tag still on.
I did work in a retail store with great discounts so I don’t need to shop for anything. I use my closet and mix and match and find many that work together.
The only thing I buy is shoes, comfortable shoes.
Now I wish to get rid of some fancy dishes from year ago.
My life is so much easier to live with less.

I love the concept of luxury minimalism. If I am going to have one bowl, I want it to be truly beautiful and preferably with an emotional attachment. Maybe one you found at a flea market in Paris or one that your grandmother used every day to make biscuits for her family. Some people think minimalism has to mean plain and dull. I disagree.

My mum passed away almost 2 years ago and she collected things. She was into crafting - quilting, card making, embroidery, cross stitch, painting, scrap booking…. She had a room dedicated to it all, floor to ceiling. Nobody else in our family did any of these so it was all given away to charity shops, schools, retirement homes. She had so many plans on using it all. It has made me think about my own things. I never want anyone to feel weighed down by all my stuff after I die. Everything has a meaning or a connection we hold dear. Decluttering has helped me and dad move forward while we grieve, knowing it all went to good homes.

My husband and I have been living minimally somewhat since we got married 30 years ago, we don't splurge on expensive yearly holidays and buy only what we need. I love my thrift stores and got many wonderful items from there. Everytime we went to the mall, we are so happy that we don't need to buy anything, we were just there for the window shopping. Living minimally also gave us the feeling of abundance, that we have more money than we need. We are content and happy.

I am so guilty of buying for the sake of buying. I have been on minimalist journey since 2009. I don't buy myself much anymore. However we have a 3 yr old that I buy a lot for. The other day I took a large bag of donations into a store and they asked me to put them in the back. I had to walk through the store and I picked up 2 shirts I didn't need. I told myself to put them back. I used to buy for the sake of buying. Thanks for sharing

    Hi Connie
I decide 2022 that I would stay away from my favorite stores for 1 full year .
I realized how much my shopping was addicting and also I need it to figure it out my behavior towards it . I knew that my shopping was a scape from stress and an unmanageable lifestyle . This was the best thing I done , I’m learning to control my impulses and also to find joy in simple things , us you mention in the videos . I love it to have less and live simple . I just subscribed thank you

This is so refreshing, I am at a new level of minimalism not and plan to travel with just a backpack. Since I am an older person, it draws comments from people who feel that I should be settled in one place with a car. But my spirit wants to travel and be free. I have no commitments so am planning. You have given me hope. Thanks Carolyn

I love this lifestyle....I began my journey due to the need to relocate to the east coast. Packing made me realize that I wasted so much on duplicative buys, unnecessary clothes and assessories and my need to feel valued/seen. Get rid of things, made me feel lighter and more aligned with myself. I still have nice stuff but it's more for me and it's less junk...one of the best advise giving was my suze orman - purchase great pieces of jewelry once and you won't need to assessorize every again. So I've had my Tiffany jewelry for over 22 years and they're beautiful to me every day.

I've been on this journey for 5 years now. I've had 7 kiddos so you can imagine the overwhelming amount of "stuff" I started with. It comes in waves. Some days its easy to get rid of stuff. Some days its not. But its so worth it. My home is calmer and easier to manage. When you finally get down to the things you truly love you find you don't need all the other stuff. I have a saying that I kept on my wall. "Collect moments not things" it so much easier to collect moments and be in the moment when you are not worried about managing things. Many blessings on your journey!

      82. Do they not ponder the Quran? Had it been from any other than Allah, they would have found in it much discrepancy.

    Greetings Connie,
I lucked across your channel AND I've really enjoyed this upload. While I cannot in good conscience say that I'm a "minimalist", I can say that for the past 6 years now I've organically moved away from shopping and that urge/need to have something new. For me, I believe it's a combination of many things: valuing money more; having 2 active homes in two different countries; having nearly 30 years of possessions that I've meticulously maintained so they're in excellent condition; being approximately the same size for nearly 30 years (plus or minus a few pounds), so I've accumulated quite the clothing war chest; AND simply aging. I believe all these factors have made me just stop. Stop and appreciate what I already have. To re-home things that I truly am not using or no longer brings me joy. To wear the wardrobe I've already curated and enjoy discovering what I actually have in my own closets. I've also just wanted more time to simply enjoy my home. I no longer wanted to spend a whole day out of my weekend cleaning and keeping up with all my things. Now, while I do enjoy surrounding myself with items that bring the cozy vibe to my homes, the spaces need to be orderly and fairly easy to clean and maintain. I find that I'm less stressed and no longer interested in being out-n-about "window shopping". Being home reading, cooking, pitter-pattering, or watching my favourite shows is so much more satisfying to me now!

Growing up with a mother who lived through the depression taught me “to make do” as my mom would say. Do I really need 5 pairs of jeans? Or three green tshirts? Or four hats? Just because one has different stitching or color etc? And do I need to “collect” things? How many salt and pepper shakers can you look at or even use? My Mom would call them “time and dust collectors!” Just another chore to do instead of doing something fun or that I enjoy.
I am not against having things that bring you joy to look at or use. I think to set it on the shelf to just look at is sad. So I use what brings me joy. I also found that growing up on the farm, you learn to make things to eat from what you grow or raise. Not everything needs to be bought at a store. I love plants but try to only have the ones that bring me a benefit along with the joy of having them to care for and to admire.
And since I love to read an actual Book, I too love libraries.
I worry that my daughters live that name brand, buy buy buy
Life and then wonder how their house is so crowded and stays so messy and why they can never find things! And they seem to have times when they are not shopping when they act depressed and then when something stressful happens you can always find them out shopping. With the way the world is right now, people need to be more cautious about spending and instead spend time learning how to do things and grow food and make your own stuff. Be satisfied and content with what we have.
I have a 24 hour rule about buying things… if I still have strong feelings about it after 24 hours, then I consider buying if I feel I am getting the best deal. MOST every time… I forget all about it when that 24th hour goes by!
And I have a small set budget for spending so it makes me look seriously about what I am buying and is it worth my money?
You do not have to live in a stark naked home to be a minimalist. You just are more INTENTIONAL. So perhaps we should be called intentionalists!!

Hi Mary! Oh my! I love your story of your mother and how she shape your perspective on life. LOL "time and dust collectors"
I agree, minimalism doesn't mean to own nothing. I chose to live mindfully and intentionally in ALL areas of my life.

Thank you for this video. Since starting my minimalist journey 2 years ago, a lot has changed. I've always shopped in thrift stores but now I purchase only good quality, classic clothing. I am almost finished with my "wish" list and feel these clothes will last me the rest of my life (I'm 65). Once again thank you.

Thank you dear lady for this meaningful video. I was a shopaholic . During the pandemic I had WFH and I did not need those clothes and other stuff that I had splurged. So for the past 2+ years I have cut down on shopping and now I have more cash in hand which I being able to save. Life is getting better as I have found happiness in reading, meditating and caring for the needy. I have done away with the maids, as I love to do all my house hold chores by myself which is an unthinkable scenario in India. Lots of love from India, Shillong.

During Covid (while living in Uzbekistan) I found myself shopping online more to fill a void...now that we plan to move to Switzerland in 3 months....we are selling most of what we own...what a waste. Im looking forward to moving somewhere where minimalism is encouraged....small apartments make sense....and experiences and sustainability are valued. Thanks for sharing your journey!

I've never been a big spender but since the virus had us all housebound my desire to go into any store is practically 0. My "joyful" spending is groceries LOL....I love cooking. We don't really go out to eat because we continue to be disappointed by the food as we make better at home. Nice video. Take care and hello from Ontario Canada.

Loved your story! Big houses & big cars (had 7 Range Rovers before 40) are no longer a must. I started the same journey 8+ yrs ago. Removed cable tv & didn't miss it. I'm a reader anyway. The library was my friend for books, meeting authors & movies. I became closer to loved ones, time outdoors, and the simple things in life. I recently moved & I'm still donating items. I luv thrift stores & Saving money is a BONUS! I feel 'lighter' & I love it. It's just stuff at the end of the day.

I grew up in an old, very large house, but it was the garden that gave us so much joy, especially when we could help my dad in his veggie garden. I remember the times around the kichen table, the fireplace and on the verandah best. We also had a very basic little beach bungalow, which I miss dearly now, many years later. Why? These were the times we got to spend and enjoy together as a family. It wasn't possessions that made these times memorable, it was the togetherness of family and simple activities that I loved.

I have friends that quickly learned early in our relationship I only shop when I need anything. I’ll go shopping with them and If I don’t need anything I’ll only buy my lunch. I call unnecessary items as “ dust collectors”. Now I have family and friends that have gotten on board. There’s more funds to go travel or help ones really in need.

      5. Nothing is hidden from Allah, on earth or in the heaven.

      1. O people! Fear your Lord, who created you from a single soul, and created from it its mate, and propagated from them many men and women. And revere Allah whom you ask about, and the parents. Surely, Allah is Watchful over you.
      82. Do they not ponder the Quran? Had it been from any other than Allah, they would have found in it much discrepancy.

So well said! It is a journey, the more you are on the journey, the more joy, calm, self-aware, and self-value. "life is what you make of, not what you own" is my favorite quote. Thanks for sharing!

I collect lots of countries instead of lots of 'things'. I've travelled in 64 so far and lived in 4. Apart from travel my one weakness is collecting prints, or original paintings of each country, or area I visit. My 'stuff' therefore adorns the walls of my very small home. My retirement will be spent looking at those and reminiscing about my many interesting adventures, for as long as my memory holds up.

As an adult I’ve learned Growing up what I thought was “ poor” wasn’t “ poor” at all. My parents taught us children to pay more and buy quality items which last longer. Money is saved when things aren’t constantly being replaced. I continue to pay more for quality while seeking end of season sales.
Also when I want a big ticket item I watch the sale prices of it over a period of time. Example: I have two wool coats I bought in June 2019 for less than what one costs as a result of this action. In February 2019 Each coat was $275. While I could afford the price I knew it would go on sale later in the year. In June that year the coat went on sale for $125. I ordered one. The next day the same coat was $80 so I ordered another one. I got two coats for $205.00. Even if I was younger than 69 I’d never buy another winter coat.

13 years! It is wonderful to hear from someone who has truly “walked the talk”. My boyfriend is moving in and my already small house is about to get smaller. Now is my test to see where my values are and what stuff I truly need. I’ve learned about minimalism and followed it for quite a few years. I’ve incorporated quite a bit of the ideas but now I am truly getting to put it to the test. Not only will I get to live with a dear, sweet man, I will get to lighten my life and focus on what is most important. Loving your videos.

I would love and always wanted to be a minimalist. I’m very sentimental..I have a plastic container for each of my 4 children, of the very first diaper that I open on the very first box of diapers ,the first outfit they came home from the hospital when they were born, the first shoes when they started walking, a blanket that my mom made for all the grandkids in our family and alllll the first.. (2 of my daughters pass away, 27 years ago my 3 years old pass away in my arms in a car accident, 16 years later my other 28 years old daughter pass away, she was 12 years old when my first daughter pass away) after so much pain I learn to care less for things, like when I broke a very expensive crystal vase, I just look at the million little pieces and felt nothing, I just thought it can always be replace, but life CAN NOT…and I never replace that vase..and I started to just give away a lot of “stuff” that it did not make me happy anymore it made my life a lot easier because I’m always cleaning , but I don’t have all this stuff to dust too…I only buy things that I absolutely need, and my life is simple and clean. My brain function better…a lot of people that are depress, feels better when the brain does not capture so much stuff..some times it’s the clatter, and they don’t even know ,and the brain feels overwhelm, making the person overwhelm. In my case I always clean and organize (I always being like that), but for some people they let it go, they don’t clean because they don’t know where to start, and things just gets worse and the brain capturing so much without the person even knowing, and the depression gets worst. I really enjoy your video, thank you so much !! Stay safe🌹💐🌹💐 oh I forgot to say this, I love to watch decorating videos, and I have no idea why lol…

      82. Do they not ponder the Quran? Had it been from any other than Allah, they would have found in it much discrepancy.

Starting last month, I began doing that “pay yourself first” thing; I put 10% of my income into savings first and foremost and not touch it. I wound up putting $100 in savings. But what I discovered is that I stopped ‘wasting’ money on unnecessary items (which bring only immediate and short term satisfaction), because it turns out the approximate total I was spending on these items was about $100! In other words, I found that I didnt have the room in my budget for frivolous spending.
