Jin and Suga (Yoongi) are perpetual roommates (in the BTS dorm which has now evolved into a multilevel luxury condo in the Beverly Hills of Seoul) and admittedly soulmates being both notorious introverts of the group. Jungkook is the revered golden Maknae of the group and he is babied and mentored by the older members and culturally always will be even as a grown man. Where Jin goes JK goes cause being the oldest Hyung he has practically raised JK since the kid moved to Seoul to be an idol trainee. The bond is so strong they’re practically joined at the hip (and fodder for many ship rumors but that is another story) but JK is pretty much coddled by all his Hyungs including Yoongi who may be stern and street tough (never mess with a boy from Daegu) on the outside but a big softie on the inside. Their whole group/family dynamic is something to behold and just plain heart warming. There’s also a making the MV video of the eldest and youngest getting made up and costumed for the shoot where Jin mentions that Yoongi specially requested the two of them to be part of the video and there’s also sunshine Hobi taking the time to visit the set and rent out a whole ass customized coffee truck for his bros that would serve Yoongi’s favorite Americano. Sorry for rambling on. Those are my fun facts for the day.

@@cjnottoday397 This is my personal theory, but I feel pretty strongly about it: Hobi also makes a *hidden* cameo in the video. He's the member of peasant-AgustD's posse with the bucket hat who (unlike all the others) keeps the hat pulled down and his face mostly covered whenever he's in a shot. I'll die on this hill.

BTS, and especially the rap line, got a lot of hate, especially in the beginning. When they became idols, other rappers said they weren’t real musicians, insulted their masculinity, etc. Suga especially is a delightful mix of sweet and utterly savage. One time he was live and someone wrote in: “BTS look like girls.” Suga said, “Aaah, should I answer this?” Then he deadpan said, “I can make your girl scream louder by hitting like on a post than you can no matter what you do.” And just kept going. The reference to pill poppers is to wanna-be-rappers in Korea who take drugs because they think it makes them cooler. He is saying he’s a genius, he doesn’t need any of that, they “just got no skills.” BTS is usually so humble, sweet, kind - ARMY gets a kick out of it when they flex a little. They came from nothing, fought their way up, won our hearts, and now they are the kings, with the biggest ARMY in the world (truly - I don’t think there’s an army in the world bigger than 10 million). Love them. Thanks for being excited with us! We love this because so many people in our lives are like - BTS???????? It’s the best to see the light go on for someone else. Keep up the good work!

*Spoiler Alert: In the shooting sketch,* SUGA says "four years ago, Agust D became King. Now another Agust D is confronting him. D-2's Title Track "Daechwita" is more about the auditory enjoyment than the lyrics. So, I'd say you should focus more on the Visual and Auditory layers" He also says when doing the courtyard scene as the blond King, "I'm the tyrant King, I'm trampling over the court officials as I rap". He also said when he found out there was a sword dance, somewhat late, I practiced two days before.
Back to the scene as the peasant being held prisoner, he says, "I'm here to kill the King. As for why I exchanged a look with the man at the butcher's. The man from the butcher shop is here as the executioner. They've made a pact to drive out the King."
    *From the D-2 interview*
He chose Daechwita as the title track because he thought it would be fun. Did you know that when SUGA was planning the video the director's team wanted to keep it minimal, but he said "Whatever I do, I want to film it at a historical drama set". So they did a new script and edits. He told them the scenes he wanted, so he enjoyed the whole process. He likes Historical Dramas since he was a kid, and he adds traditional Korean sounds in his music a lot. The scar on his face was his idea. He always likes his music to make contrast to his previous songs. He wanted to show the beauty in contrast, for example, showing a modern outfit in front of a Traditional King, or doing a donut in a car. Two men with the same scar, one is Blond King, the other is Another Agust D. He wanted the scar to be shocking, when he lifted his face
He chose Korean hwando.(sword) when chosing props, he reasearched Josean swords and chose 20 examples, from that 3 were chosen by his agency and he chose one and it was made by a real sword craftsman. It was too heavy, so they changed the sword to aluminum. He had never sword danced before, so he practiced for two days.
By the way 'People' is the song he likes most from his mixtape. The first mixtape 'Agust D' was stories about his past, Agust D in 2016. The current mixtape 'D-2' is stories about his present, Agust D in 2020.
    *V Live Discussion on Daechwita*
He sampled original Daechwita music, and used it while sketching the song. It's a song for marching ceremonies like a King or an ARMY. So he linked it to BTS and ARMY. He said, "You know I put traps in my songs. For example, if you find a cochroach at home, you put a trap. Like pesticide, then the cochroaches will come and die in the trap. 'Daechwita' is the pesticide. 'What do you think', and 'Daechwita' are the traps. I think for a few people, they never learn. I don't understand. They never miss the traps, and I laugh at them." Then he says, "For the traps I mentioned, I guess people who get caught by them never learn how to avoid. They get caught every time and complained." If you want the full V Live discussion on his mixtape, it's on V Live. I know I left super long comments, but I didn't want you to get the wrong explanation of the song. I think it's always better to go back to the songwriter if you can find a discussion or behind the scenes.

You talked about the contrast in movies of a violent scene with soft, soothing music. BTS does that a lot. You will hear a song that seems light, airy and danceable, only to find out it has deep or sad lyrics...clearly an artistic choice on their part. Yes "Bang PD" and "Hitman Bang" are the same person...the CEO. And the picture they held up was from a time that JK drew him as a joke. The behind the scenes video will explain some of the questions you had. "All that and a bag of chips"..or whatever we said in the 90s...lmao. Not sure if it was the 90s but I clearly remember people thinking they were "hot sh*t" as being an expression. I am a 63 year old Gramma ARMY from Canada. My whole life, if people asked me what music I like I would say "anything except rap"...it all sounded the same to me. Since becoming ARMY, I can now appreciate different cadences, flows etc...stutter rap, melodic rap...sometimes between one member and another and sometimes all of these things in one song by one rapper. I now have all of the rappers mixtapes and BTS songs on my playlist and couldn't love it more. Thanks for reacting.

DKDK TV has a bit of a different interpretation, but the one you came up with is closer to the hints that Suga has given about the song since that time. (DKDK TV is a good source to learn about all the historical references and what they allude to though. ) Min Yoongi the regular guy vs. Suga the mad king drunk on his own fame and power, and regular Suga has to kill the despotic king Sugar before the king kills Suga’s original self. I read that Suga got a little tipsy on set to help him portray the crazy king. (He also references 2 royals from Korean History: King Gwanghae, and Crown Prince Sado who both famously suffered from Mental Illness.) I also read one time, which statement I have not been able to find again, Suga saying about whether he was able to kill his mad Ego at the end, “I don’t know. Maybe I missed.”

  • @christinamorris8492
    @christinamorris8492 2 ปีที่แล้ว +73

I appreciate that we got to see your perspective first before the DKDKTV explanation video. Yoongi has his different persona's. Suga and Agust D. Suga is hard and in your face about issues that he wants drive home (Cypher's, UGH, Baepsae for example) but Agust D is next level and doesn't pull his punches. He comes for them, no mercy.
You could also see this as the King being younger Yoongi, angry reactionary and lashing out at everyone and the Rebel being older Yoongi calmer wiser and with the love of the people. The older self basically saying I don't need to be "the king" persona anymore, I have all I need now and that's everything to him.
In UGH, the rap line talk about having the right kind of anger and I feel like this brushes on this a bit. He is a genius, our genius and rightfully so.

That was SO fitting for you; you've been doing this your way from the beginning and I respect that. The energy of this reaction has just shifted 180!! I am so pleasantly surprised that I am just gonna stop typing and keep watching for your analysis now!
13:45 - Once again your enthusiasm is infectious! I love that this video can elicit such a reaction from you! ❤
14:35 - YAY!!! THAT *IS* A REFERENCE TO HITMAN BANG!! You are 100% learning!! Bang PD-nim is how they refer to him as PD stands for "producer".
15:50 - 😱😱 HOLY STARS YOU GOT IT!! Holy smoke how did you piece that all together?! I am so impressed that you totally picked up on what they were trying to convey with this MV. I believe that there might be layers to his message in this MV. Suga got a lot of hate thrown his way during Bangtan's early years as other rappers from the underground scene started talking smack about how he and RM sold out and became idol rappers who were basically girls for wearing makeup and doing choreography. This was just his way of dissing the haters.
16:50 - Suga explored the idea of what it means to be a international superstar and the drawbacks of being at the pinnacle of success in his song "Interlude: Shadow". He talks about how scary it is to be so high up at the summit of their careers because he realizes that the higher you are, the longer (and potentially harder) the fall can be.
19:10 - I love that interpretation. Say what you will about Suga but anyone who has spent any time getting to know him, will pick up very early on that he is a very ambitious person. He's has made conscious strides in the past to remind himself to remain humble and not to forget where he came from in the face of the band's overwhelming success.
20:27 - That's what I believed, at least -- I had always believed that those people were his "fans".
27:30 - TONY DANZA~ lols "Whose the Boss" reference: *check!*
This was so much fun!! Thank you so much for your honest opinion! This was exactly what I hoped you would do 💜

PS - kpop idols can get A LOT of hate and libel. In 2018, 3 high profile idols took their own lives, one at least partially bc her label wouldn’t defend her and fed her to the wolves, so to speak. It can be a very hard life. Bighit takes the health and mental health of its artists seriously, esp in recent years, and has been very open about legally pursuing people who lie about or harass their idols. Though we can still tell some of this stuff bothers BTS (like an incident recently where someone went after Vs friends and family), it’s nice to see BTS now moving around in the world with the confidence that their company, their security team, and ARMY (who have essentially written dissertations defending BTS from lies) have their backs. They and Bighit have helped to pioneer more artistic control, shares in the company for idols, and overall treating idols like they and their opinions matter. There is a sweet video from one of BTSs first awards of one of the producers watching crying. I’m sure they have argued, but overall BigHit feels like a family.

So when hes talking about the pill poppers hes referencing underground rappers in Korea in general he put the words in there as a trap and ofc people bit at it hard. He called them out without naming anybody.... so clever. Sugas hard times were because his family was very poor and his parents didnt want him to try to be a musician they actually tore up his lyrics, in the beginning only his older brother supported him so he did it really tough. He often had to decide over eating or catching the bus home. He also as been very open about having anxiety issues and he actually got treatment for this. He is in a much better place now and you can actually see it if you watch how he used to be to how he is now. He is still an introvert but the rest of the boys have been very understanding and really helped him a lot over the years to come out of his shell a bit more. Also hes not super demonstrative with his affection but his love and caring for the guys shines in so many ways. Also I would much prefer it if you did it your way and then after everything watch an explained video as I think the take away from your personal views and what the music and videos portray to you ( also we already know what they say in the explained ones). I really enjoy your take on things and I cant wait until you stumble across the BU its gunna blow your mind.

My thought on this is that the king represents the traditional way of making music in Korea. The low class Suga is coming to challenge all that. The way he looks at the king from the car just says, "I'm coming for you!" The rap industry looked down on him, made fun of him for becoming an idol and the king shows that when he laughs at him when he's in the car. The line that says he's glad he's a genius tells them he can have it both ways: he can be an idol and the king of rap. He's world wide, this country's too small to hold him in. The people on the ground used to serve the king but join with Suga at the end. The king brought a sword to a gun fight when Suga rolled into town.
The fight in the street is Jin and Jungkook. 😉

I think your interpretation fits well with what we know about Suga as a person. More than any other BTS member, Suga has been vocal with saying what he wants out loud -- he wants money, he wants awards, he wants to be number one. In the early days, when BTS won an award, Suga would be the first one to take hold of it and would stare at it like it was his first born child. Suga has also been very outspoken in his lyrics and in interviews about how his greed for success scares him and he strives to find balance in his life now. I think Daechwita (the video) is a great visual representation of that internal battle he has.

    • @sr_ian
      @sr_ian 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      > > Insert *Interlude: Shadow* here < <
I think this video (Daechwita) is the perfect example of how much he's matured. The journey from his first mixtape (his lyrics on Give it to Me and Agust D vs D-2 mixtape), he's not the same, he has grown and matured a lot and has now realized what greed could lead to, hence why he decided to take out the blonde "tyrant" king (greed).
I just love how he always takes us along on his journey. He isn't afraid of showing us his vulnerable side and his struggles. That's what makes him relatable and more lovable. He's always working to improve himself to remain humble and rooted. That's his way of helping others thru his music.
I think that's what artist should always aspire to be.

OK, I’m going to add my 2 cents. Note that the scar on King Suga’s eye is ‘fresher’ than the scar on peasant Suga. So, I take that as the King was the younger Suga and the peasant Suga is the more recent version.
My absolute favourite part of this reaction though, is you stopping when peasant Suga is looking at the butcher - the same butcher that is the executioner.

OK, I got till the end. Hope this helps :)
    SPOILERS:
Watch DKDK for cultural references, I'll talk about the movie+lyrics
    - At the beginning, Suga exchanges glances with the butcher (who doubles as executioner) so that he knows he's gonna confront the king and be sentenced to death, but he's doing it on purpose to bring down the tyrant.
    - The king is his past self, as he thought he was better than anyone, but had no problems with drugs or anything that you think in that regard. His troubled youth was: he was poor, his parents didn't approve of pursuing music (painful but obvious), he did work with music anyway and got ripped off (he sold beats and songs and never got paid for those). He struggled(s) with depression and anxiety since young, later social phobia (he explains in another song -> The Last).
    - He, as commoner, has the feet on the ground, he knows he's a genius but he doesn't think as he's better than others, it's just a fact now. He only disses on the ones that fall into the trap (if the shoe fits).
I tried to summarized. Also there is a live he did explaining he set traps for cockroaches in his lyrics, and cockroaches always fall into the traps :) he's sweet like that.
Here is the official channel, whole live: www.vlive.tv/post/1-18241335 (omg he's so handsome... coughcough, sorry)
Some army edited some parts out, but please if you want to see the whole thing, always go to vlive (some people post the whole thing in youtube -_____-)

About pill poppers too: he had a friend (we don't know more) who served jail time for drug use. He visited everyday/week. This friend when he was out, the only thing he could mention was offering him drugs. So Yoongi felt betrayed: he tried to help his friend in his "forced" rehabilitation, and not only did not work at all, but this "friend" wanted him down the hole (the friend didn't care about him). He mentions "him" in several songs, starting from Spring Day verse that you know. Dear my friend and Set me free are songs referring to this episode of his life (set me free is the "beautifullest" ever, like "I want to get rid of this friendship that serves me nothing and tries to drag me down).
Enough spoilers? Hit me if you want more details :D
I have a "problem": i don't just have an addictive personality, I have photographic memory... fails a bit now that I'm old-er, but still there, aural memory too (I memorize songs just listening once, the right notes I mean, not lyrics)... And I'm close to Joonie in certain things. Sorry if this was long T-T Plus, I studied Translation (English and German), and Eastern Asian Studies after translating (subbing) 3-4 years Asian movies :D and I'm crazy about their culture (East Asia, major in China and Japan) before BTS was out of school hehe. Feel free to ask, if I know the answer, I'll share it with you :)

When you explained your plan I thought...he’s doing this with Daechwita! Good luck on controlling that pause button finger...but you did it, so proud of you!

I think he switches between speaking about his past self and speaking about haters. Also, I think that figures in black cloaks can sometimes be haters and sometimes be fans--after all, you often don't know which is which until they speak/uncloak themselves. I will also say that Suga has a couple of songs where we hear about how when he started he wanted the "big house, big car, big rings", but as he's made his climb to the top and actually achieved those things, he worries more about allowing greed to swallow him and rule his life. Personally, I think those are the two sides we see here. Both versions of Suga are at the top of the game, but King Suga cares about power and money, and the people who follow him do so out of fear and awe, but essentially leaving him standing alone in most, if not every scene. The other Suga is more grounded and realizes those things aren't everything and has friends and followers who are willing to stand with him and cut him loose when he's tied down.

Yoongi himself said that the song was more about being an auditory experience than dissecting the meaning. Everything else is just the whip cream & cherry on top. But there is a lot of amazing things going on in the song, and the connections you've made so far are pretty good!

backup dancers with their faces covered don't automatically mean 'haters', most backup dancers in many groups wear those kinds of outfits because they are not the main focus of the performance and don't want to stand out more than the artists. I don't think they are 'haters' in the Fire MV either. Those people were dancing with BTS not against BTS.
In this MV, they are extras playing the part of the kings citizens/court officials who were first bowing to the tyrant king, but then decided to follow the new agust D to overthrow the tyrant. Not all extras in black clothing mean 'haters'. I'm not sure what comments lead that belief.

Not always, just sometimes, and usually when they're wearing hoods (masks mean nothing, as you said). In Not Today they start out as haters, throw away the hoods, and become followers. Yes, I know they've still got hoods while dancing in formation -- it looks better and Rule of Cool always wins! In Mic Drop they're definitely haters, throwing shade along with their smoke bombs, but eventually even they are nodding their heads along with BTS. It all depends on what the song needs.

Roscoe, I'd say you are right about the it being a past and present Suga. But the pill reference is not about him. It references artists/producers that say they're more creative when high. As far as I know, none of the guys have ever been drug users beyond alcohol. So I am confident that this was a dig at someone in the industry that came for Suga/BTS after AUGST D was released. IMHO.

Suga gave us a great deal of information about how he came up with the idea, composed, produced, and recorded the song, and also how he and the team filmed this. It was pretty interesting that Suga gave a lot of thoughts into the smallest details of the mv, like his hair color, wardrobe choices, the type of car, whether or not they would include the drift scene or not, the type of sword that they would use in the sword dance scene, his scar on the face, and of course, those two peasants who got in fights behind Suga's back in the market. If you go see his Vlive (2020, the title of this vlive is "D-2", which is the title of his 2nd mixtape, he starts talking about Daechita at around 1:08:33), he said he was intrigued by the idea that Daechita was played for kings or armies. Suga liked this symbolism, given his inner reflection and also the name of the fandom being army) and sampled the sound of Daechita.

    I love it Roscoe!! 😁💜
I've thought and read so much about this video and what it means (I might have mentioned it's my favorite MV eveeerrrrr 😂). There's half a dozen different theories that all fit imo. After researching the meanings for multiple other BTS videos, I've really come to the conclusion that they are *meant* to have multiple meanings. BTS is just that deep. I love that their music and MVs inspire so much discussion and theorizing honestly.
I personally think you're right in that Yoongi was talking about the struggle he's gone through. Once being so low, now being so high, and trying to stay true to himself in the meantime. This is something he's brought up before, so I think that's definitely incorporated.
But I also think it has other layers. Such as.. Daechwita is a song played by the ARMY marching into battle. So it's meant as a song to empower ARMY who have to hear the hate thrown at them and BTS from so many sides. In this sense the black clothed figures could either be haters or ARMY. Or they could even be a dual representation of both.
There's also theories that the king represents the music industry, and the black clothed figures are music fans who were enthralled to their nefarious practices. For this theory, BTS and their genuine music helped them break free from being led around by music moguls purely for profit.
And then there are theories that he's also talking *directly* to the haters, specifically those in the underground rap scene where he started. From my understanding, some rappers (specifically referencing Korea) use drugs to give them a "high" that helps them rap faster/better. Yoongi has always rapped like a maniac, he's never needed pills to rap-battle his haters into oblivion lol.
I personally think they all apply, and maybe even more theories I've never heard before. When Yoongi said he was a genius he was NOT wrong 😅

    SPOILER ?
    - Suga is descendant of Last Empress of Korea!
    - Daechwita is also played when Emperor is marching to a war.
    - MV is filmed in built in permanent historical drama set MV starts from a exact copy of the main palace in Seoul - with the exact copy of the throne. My Emperor literally sat him self into a throne that belongs him by his darn BLOOD - suck on that (pill popping) rappers who got no skill.
    - The mad king is kinda also his literal noble blood - that he kinda denounced becoming rapper..
    - The song is about revolution, that Agust D is trying to make in Korean Rap world
    - Mad king is also kinda his greed that is all consuming and would be his destruction like the kings madness was his destruction..
    - The farmer character is the young boy who left everything behind to follow his heart who literally saw hunger for his passion for rap, Gloss.
    - Farmer character is also Agust D who did diligently his work and became the king of Korean rap with his hard work never forgetting his poor, humble roots. who like in the end of the video - brought his gun level of skill into a knife fight.
This kinda is a flex song to some of those pill popping other rappers (Suga claims it is not a flexing song, but he also says it is a cockroach trap for some people {unnamed pillpoppers} who always fall into his traps)
This kinda is his own self reflection with his past noble self and conflict with rap king that he is through hard work.
This kinda is a self reflection with him and his greed
Also the farmer character is a time traveller.. Or this world it is normal to have conflicting timelines compared to ours.
Bonus quessing game : There is also person From Another Royal Clan in this video.. ;D (There is actually still MORE royal clans is Korea and neither if ones in this video are what Koreans would think first to rise into the throne if ever they would revert back into monarchy, so we can rest peacefully, that no royalist is going to take our _three memebears_ from music industry.💜 )
    *
And because it is Min Yoongi's genius mind and genius lab that cooked this magnificent art piece : all of those and many more can all be valid at the same time.

I watched an explanation video by a Korean historian about this video. One of his theories (just a theory but I kind of liked it because I hadn’t heard it before) was that the 2 Suga characters were twins. The king Suga was the ruler but he was paranoid about his older twin brother, so poor Suga went into hiding. Maybe the elder, poor Suga didn’t want to be king. But when he heard about his brother being such a tyrant, he realized that he had had to come out of hiding and take control from his brother who was feared and hated by the people. I don’t think this is what Suga had in mind but the fact that he calls out for the royal music, daechtwita, to be played as he walks through the town adds some credibility to that theory. I’ve also heard that the evil king represents the big 3 music companies that BTS challenged and beat. There’s a great making of the video you can watch where Suga talks about his thinking in making this video.

Not sure if anyone mentioned that this car also represents the old Agust D, it's the same kind of car in his music video "Give it to Me", only he's riding in it. It's him showing that he's better than he was before, he's moved up.
As for the "pill popping", I don't think it has to do with himself, but rather he says "That's your reason for using drugs, cry me a river, you just got no skills". That is a shot at his haters who while hating on him and calling him and the guys "sellouts", they were getting high to simply be able to write a verse. Yoongi has said that he writes a song and sometimes 2 almost every day, he doesn't need drugs to be prolific. Additionally, I think it's another reference like when he mentions PD-nim dancing on and on while the revenue goes up and up.
    Great Reaction and dissection. 💜

I think your interpretation applies to this as well. And could be on point with suga's mindset writing this album. On the other hand, Suga did say in one of his livestreams that he put "traps" in his songs, where "cockroaches" keep getting themeselves trapped in. I.E. people who felt like they are the one being shot at in the song. "Drug users" here for example meant "rappers" who take it to be "trendy", thus his mention of them having no skills.
Although of course illegal drug use is looked down upon in Korea too, and most other countries I believe.
The "executioner" is rebel agustD's ally, you can see in the beginning of the MV in the marketplace a quick nod between a butcher and rebel augustD
In another interview, Suga teased saying we don't know if King August D survived after being shot by rebel August D. My take on this, is that the conflict between the two personas can still go on, true for everyone, and not necessarily unhealthy.
This also has one live performance, I won't spoil it. But I’ll say, you're going to be surprised and laughing at the same time 🤣 you can reserve your reaction to this after you see more of their live performances 😉

You should check out, the On official MV, that's also like a movie than a MV too, it's awesome. Love this song too, Korean culture symbolism in this video is beautiful the outfit Agust D is wearing, the buildings, the markets etc, looks cool.😎💜👌 Plus love the explanation vids, you learn so much more.💜

You do reactions the way you want to Roscoe!
The analysis/explanation videos are theories too. They add depth to our understanding of BTS' music, but as people who love their music, we give it meaning too that's just as important as whatever intended meaning.

    • @Nelle606
      @Nelle606 2 ปีที่แล้ว

YES! The explanation videos provide valuable insight on cultural, historical and linguistic context that a non-Korean would not be able to pick up on their own. But what all these items mean when you put it together is still only a theory. I personally think Roscoe is closer to the true meaning than the DKDKTV interpretation, but their video is still a must-see to get all the added context and easter eggs hidden in the video.

You are right on about SUGA’s journey. There’s a theme to SUGA. When you listen to their early MV, he lists things he wants and it’s very iconic lines from him. Then in this song and others… he acknowledged of having attained it. I take this as SUGA’s duality playing out and him keeping himself grounded and killing the celebrity- in power SUGA.
Bookish Theory gives explanation on who the guys are that help him in the end and gives him a gun. DKDKTV does not explain that part, which is why I prefer Bookish Theory more. She also ties it to SUGA’s other songs and interview.

Hi Roscoe, 54 yo OT7/Yoongi Ult here. I have been looking forward to your foray into the Rap Line, especially Yoongi's stuff. I recommend Agust D the song from the first solo release as well. This man spits fire. Also, please, PLEASE, do the Cyphers. My faves are 2 and 4 and I am curious about which yours will be. Also, I find myself very much looking forward to your enthusiastic reactions, so thank you!

The two sugas are the first Agust D, the blonde one, which yoongi(SUGA) has named "Anger" and the black hair Suga who isn't angry anymore. This track is in his SECOND mixtape. The first mixtape is just call Agust D and has very... Yeah, angry songs (my favorite is Agust D - yeah that's the songs title) and the pill popper part of this song talks about all those rappers that threw shade at him and BTS for not being "real" rappers for using makeup and being idols and stuff, some even turned out to have criminal charges for drug use and others...

Ok doolset? (I don’t refer to this because they are too esoteric with their interpretation and leave the impression that it is fact when it’s not) it’s simpler than that. S.Korea is democratic…but not as democratic as the the US is as far as free speech. Hence a lot of metaphors. So here goes: Three major companies SM YG and JYP. SM being the first and more well established. Most if not all musical groups from these companies always won at the award shows. (Many other companies but smaller exist) Bang PD used to be a partner with YG but disagreed with some aspects, left and started BigHit. It struggled and the company was close to bankruptcy. It had another group a female one but it didn’t last, and of course other singers but it was hurting. BTS was created and guided by Bang PD and the staff. And they started winning. Pissed the bigger companies off to no end. So, remember SM? The oldest company? They had the media and shows wrapped around their finger and often got their way. Media all but ignored BTS, they weren’t getting invited to a lot of shows, we’re dropped from broadcast, had whatever airtime they did get shortened…you name it. So BigHit improvised…they went to the internet, you tube…and it went from there….a lot of crooked things went on with those big companies that had a chokehold on a lot of young peoples lives. Parents and children often signing contracts without a lawyer….just a nasty hamster wheel. You get the picture. BTS disrupted the whole SK music industry and some people (cough) didn’t like it….then terrible proven unfounded rumors started circulating, from the companies themselves, plants in other fandoms, fans from other fandoms all throwing incredible hate, subversive blocks, framing attempts, death threats…..it’s all documented). He was tied up and blindfolded but came out swinging with many many others backing him up. The garbage still goes on to today. Just last year per SM Lee soo man (?) “if it wasn’t for him there would be no BTS” he’s not even part of BigHit…just a wee bit but hurt. This was in an article a journalist wrote, but you can believe it was proofread by LSM who cleared it.

It has taken me all day to get started with this reaction as I was a little confused (and tbh disappointed) by you jumping straight into the explained video 🙈 So happy to see you stop that and go back to your own interpretation. Way to go, Roscoe 😁👏🏻
Also, as much as I love DKDKTV explanations, I do think in this instance that Bookish Theories is more in line with Yoongi’s own explanation.

It's not only right about Bang PD but that picture was a representation that JK made of Bang Shi Hyuk. When he was talking about popping pills and talent shows, there was a group that belittled both Suga and RM about their rap, these guys made mistakes in the talent show that is something like the Voice but for Groups in Korea. These guys were actually taking pills and they said it was what helped them work, do their music. So twice he spoke of pill poppers he was talking of other rappers. He was showing that he didn't need both Suga and Agust D to make his music. But again like I always do much of his music is up for interpretation. But this song in particular has much cultral references and references to Suga's history. Be aware that Suga never feels that there is a lesser self of himself. It is very personal to Suga and his struggles. Doolcet is a theory just as so much of others do, DKDK did much the same even though they did it by a video. It was a masterpiece ... now go make your wife dinner. 💜💜
Suga has ancestry that were royalty in Korea but he was also poor when he first became a trainee so much so that he used to deliver meals for a restaraunt on his bicycle and had an accident that caused his shoulder great injury, he had surgery in 2021 to fix his shoulder. So the duality in this video makes so much sense also the duality that Suga is the kpop star the multi millionaire in Korea, Agust D is not all those things, but he is, he worked hard for his songs to be put on albums or mixtapes, he is a prolifict producer, writer, lyricist but he gets no money for his mixtapes. That is the duality of Suga. I think when he changed his cadence he really showed his genius in procuction it was genius.

  • @cherylwalker4242

I think ur right. It is tell the story of Suga. The idol tyrant king/emperor is king anyone who opposes him and ruling over anyone in his cabinet or ruling council. He stands on them. Off with anyone head he is the king and boss. But the real Suga. The one who grow up poor. Who did not perform in Japan because he was having a panic attack in the bathroom. The one who thought he want to be king but only wanted to see people smile (magic shop). Real suga confronts idol Suga and kills him. He is still the king and bods but now he know himself and can be himself.
I also want to say about daechwita play it loud. If daechwita mean music for the king. This means play it loud the king is here. All the people including haters were bobbing their heads to real Suga saying the king is here.

  • @florenciaonostre9778

Great video! So abour the popping pills thing, I don't think that's about him, and I have my reasons to believe that.
In the song "Dear my friend" by him that is in the same mixtape as Daechwita, he tells the story of a friendship he lost and is today in jail for-allegedly-drugs. He wonders what it would be like if they had never lost touch, if he had kept his friend out of it. His verse in Spring day is also in this song the part about "I hate you, you left me". In a part of the songs he tells us that he went to see his friend (in korea is extremely illegal the possession or use of drugs and is highly punishable by law) and his friend asked him if he wanted to try (the drugs), Suga says that at that moment he got very angry and yelled at him. So from what he has let us know through his music he is highly against drugs.
I think the "popping pills" verse is about how he doesn't fit the standard rapper image, and he doesn't need it because he is a genius.

I liked how you did the spring day reaction. You gave your thoughts with the music video and then watched the explanation video. You also don’t have to watch explanations for every song but the few that need explanation like these two. A few other songs that may need explanation are ddaeng and ugh from rap line. Their social and political songs, I think don’t need explanations and whatever you may miss in them will be covered in comments.

I am from Brazil and part of this family (BTS Army) for 6 years and watching you react to them brings me feelings of nostalgia and pride. Remember he had to audition for big hit at a talent show/search. Every word he writes has so much meaning to it....Like Black Swan and Blue and Grey. Him and Joonie and poets with their words.

pill poppers is referring to people in the k hip hop scene who use drugs as a way to act like they're cool and call it "hip hop culture" to do so, its not referring to himself
the hint is that he says they're using pills as an excuse when they have no skills
yoongi has been in love with music since he was a kid and built his confidence in his skills for years
also the pathetic talent show can definitely be read as a reference to "show me the money" which is a rap competition show that's super popular in sk

The first thing that hit me when I watched this was that King Suga was always shown alone but lower class Suga is always surrounded by people. When Suga faces reality in the torch scene he is alone and contemplating where he’s been and where he realizes that he doesn’t want to be a tyrant. And then as the scene changes he is surrounded by people again and they are with him head bobbing. He has to kill the alter ego in order to go forward with people who care. No matter which version of Suga you watch in this, he is still blasting his critics for looking down on him
