this is one of those rare videos that actually went out of their way to ask and de research and have a more positive tone. massive kudos to the production!
this is how you make a video about furries as a non furry. just talking to us and listening to what we say and actually being inquisitive, open minded and willing to, even seeking out to disprove stereotypes about the fandom. another video thats respectful in this way is Kurtis Conners vid about how his understanding of furries evolved as he delved deeper into understanding what we actually are.
It seems the algorithm has blessed me with a video full of good vibes today. Having been online for a couple of decades now, one thing I've realized about furries that I find really cool is that they're unlike most other fandoms in that they're largely centered around original content instead of an external media. They're all about self expression, a sense of community, and creating cool stuff - the kind of vibes that old school art groups like the Impressionists were about, but on a cultural scale that stuff like access to the internet brings and the same urge to anthropomorphize animals that made the Egyptians give their gods animal heads. If the Egyptians could've commissioned fursuits, they absolutely would have.
this is how being a furry starts, you hear about it for years, think its weird, then decide 'ok but what if actually theyre just people' and thats how you get sucked in, i hope yall enjoy your new fursonas and support plenty of artists getting art drawn of them ;3
I'm very open about being a furry at university (and public in general) wearing merch, pins, backgrounds, putting stickers onto everything I own obviously including my car X3. What surprises me most is generally how little people know about the existence of the fandom. I think throughout the past 5 years or so, I can only remember a single negative encounter which remained quite mild (as in, a quick "did I ask?" ended the conversation). Other people are curious, find it a bit weird after an honest explanation but never really judged. A rare few goes do their own research and ask some followup questions, then leave it at that. I'm not really aware of there being any other furries at my uni. I wish it would be a bit more popular of a fandom where I live so there's a group of people in the area to meet up with. Who knows how many closeted ones may walk around but are scared of being judged :-/. People in the real world tend to be much nicer than the ones on the internet. On the internet you can hate on anything without consequences and stay anonymous but in public literally almost nobody cares about what you do and how you present yourself :-). Besides, if someone disagrees with the fandom, or is willing to drop an entire friendship over it, in my eyes it works as a good filter, you dodged a bullet :P
I did NOT expect something this good when I saw it in my recommendations. Also, I'm not a furry, but I'm so glad to see this community be represented in a positive light, cause the assumptions many people make about furries and what they stand for can be actually disgusting.
Videos like this give me such a warm feeling about the process. Playing around with certain aspects but still keeping respect for everything. It left me with a big smile from ear to ear. Great video :D
I think most of the hate furries get is from those old "cringe compilations" that were just attacking (probably) autistic people; i dont know how someone has the possibility to see it outside of just a big hobby
Very true statement. I have a friend I've never told I was a furry, but eventually some day he started ranting about them and telling lies about how they'd identify as animals. He said that he got his informations (and ofc hatred) from cringe compilations that he likes to watch (Caseoh was one of them). If he'd only knew one of his best friends were a furry too all along... But that is actually how many get to hate them, because out of the 98% of videos were furries are wholesome, only the 2% cringey ones are shown in these videos. I hate cringe compilations because they're all about making fun of other people.
Little kids and autistic people; yep! There are also those sad, insecure people who have a "cringe" response in response to pretty much anything that might cause a person to stand out, because they're horrified and terrified by the prospect of standing out themselves.
fantastic documentary! nice balance between serious and unseriousness lol! background music choice is on point. also love the interviews from both sides of the point of views
I love the respect and affectionate joy from this video, it looks like you guys had a great time with the fandom! this is such an a cool video!! :3c i absolutely love interviews with furs that aren't malicious... soooooo many youtube videos about 'furries' these days, are cast in a bad light. it is always refreshing to see people do these types of videos with an open mind, and a mostly non-biased view of it all. being a 'furry' was, (and still is, i guess) a huge part of my life. as a few people have said... the community these days is... strange. the fandom something i grew up _learning_ , and now there are so many people that watch one tiktok with a fursuit, and immediately buy one, and now they are "a furry", but know nothing about the community at all. i could talk for hours about that last part i mentioned... but i'm already ranting a bit, so i'll stop. again. cool video! I really appreciate this perspective for videos.
refreshing seeing people genuinely curious about furries being super chill and listening to members of the community and making a nice video out of it :)
I love this video and your guys' open mindedness to see the other side of things for what they truly are! I like being a furry because it gives me something cool to represent myself as online! Being a snow leopard is cool, "snowcat" and "snowy" are cool names, and I can even get fun new art if I wanna change up my pfp every once in a while!
I love how the majority of hate towards furries comes from the internet or the US in real life people are actually chill whit us existing I've never been attacked irl for being one but idk maybe I've just been Lucky 🤷
This video was pretty good actually, just giving good vibes and enjoying with the community, btw I need to see that fursona power point, it honestly looks like it has ancient and pretty good advice on fursonas and reference sheets
This is so cute! Also I think it’s worth briefly mentioning the reason the sexual deviancy narrative is so popular is because like 80-90% of us are queer in some sort of way It’s always nice to see non furs interact with the community because furries are some of the sweetest people I’ve met, like I brought a friend to a con and she had a panic attack so I took her aside to help calm her down. A vendor noticed and gave me a free sticker as thanks ;w;
It's closer to 50/50 queer/straight, but you're still not wrong. I heard someone say that making fun of furries is one of the last socially-acceptable forms of homophobia, and honestly they aren't wrong.
Really good video, thanks for posting this... it's genuinely good to see more people showing others that there's more to the fandom than what everyone sees at a glance
its so halarious when normies interact with furries of course theres the actually decent people who are respectful or indifferent but when people are repelled or they realize their expectations were wrong, its so funny to me
For real ... I had some very interesting conversations at BLFC with people in red hats, and once they realized that I'm a totally reasonable person who happens to have ears and a tail on and that their mental model of what we are is wrong, they made me feel weirdly accepted. Really it's not any more complicated than someone cosplaying an anime character, except we cosplay our own original characters that frequently also represent us (though fursonas can be alternate identities instead of an anthropomorphic adaptation of ourselves... but me and everyone I know in the video are the latter).
Just wanted to say that this was an awesome video. Well done CalTV! Hoping this comment boosts the algorithm, always good to see well-intentioned media coverage of us!
