i bought the 2013 kia optima premium and didnt know that the 2014 will have so many improvements..like the seats, and auto hold. also the rear lights look great. interior looks much more luxorious..
I tried 2013 in TX Style equipment which is top package here in Croatia. Unfortunately they offer it only with 1.7 diesel engine that develops 136BHP. And the price here is ridiculously huge... Almost $50G for that car I tried... But that's Croatia... I read here you all complain it looks nice but it's still a Kia... Ok, here in Croatia we have a joke that Kia is a car for life, because you can't get rid of it when you want to sell it. But I witnessed a testimony from a guy that owns a towing service for 30 years and he said he towed anything you can imagine. All premium brands regardless to the price... But he never ever towed a Kia or a Hyundai :) Hard to believe but the guy is legit.
Mr Cloud Hey Mr Cloud. Yes, I tried top trim with auto transmission and metallic paint. It's $50G almost in a cent. Lower trims have pretty sh*** interior. I am well aware about premium brand prices with similar trims. And am also well aware of US/EU price differences. Was just expressing my frustration about it. Specially if we talk about prices in Croatia. Even compared with Germany. And we're talking about 50G top trim with weak engine. Another thing... Germany already offers Optima with new interior. Croatia still doesn't. I'm not interested in importing a used car. I have my reasons :)
I know Optima was face lifted with 2014 model. Both out and inside. I wasn't to Kia showroom since I tried 2013 Optima, but Croatian Kia website still has pictures of 2013 model, so I assume they are still offering it. unlike the German web site that has 2014 facelift... Ok, we're "bringing" the cars in, not importing. Big deal... either way it's still a rip off. As I said, I tried 1.7, not enough torque for me, but hey, what's the point of discussing about taste. Right? Take care man :)
I own a 2014 facelift optima here in europe its such a beautifulc ar i've had it over a year and I just love it! I agree though the steering feel and feedback is not very good, it always feels rough, i even bought a brand new set of wheels ansd tyres and had it aligned and it made no difference! it still vibrates through the steering wheel and absorbs every bump however i still adore its look and drive.
Pretty good gas mileage/horsepower-acceleration ratio. The biggest turnoff for me personally is that he said the steering is basically sloppy. I don't like that. I like very direct steering and not pansy-boy boat riding. The steering wheel and the stick shift(if you use it) are absolutely must-have's for people who love to drive.
I believe he forgot to mention, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Mazda 6, Nissan Altima and hey maybe I forgot to mention others as well but these are the ones I am thinking of for mid-size family sedan
Ok jason, I hav 2013 limited yes I do get OVER 30 mpg on highway, the 13 does have auto hold as well, just not sport mode, I may upgrade in 2015 when it will be completely redesigned
Son has a Sonata . The only trouble he had was the push button start , The car gets 34 mpg with the AC on 70-75 mph .For the money its the best bang for the buck. Road noise is a little high with the larger tires .The ride is sharp all around a winner Looking to buy one in 2 years or less . .Optima would be my choice .The Turbo makes it more sporty to drive but the insurance on turbo cars can be a increase . Any thing over 200 HP . The basic engine would be fine . Its got enough power to ride the highways.
I'm not a fan of any of the visual changes they made. The 2011-13 had a classy look about it. Jag-like. The 2014 looks like it's subtly trying to look sportier. To me it's just less attractive. I don't like the refreshed rear or front facia. The only visual change I DO like is the quilted leather. Wish they offered that with the cloth too. I hate leather.
I agree with everything you've said in your comment except for the leather. I don't like that either, nor am I a fan of the new rectangular fog lights especially with those black "wings" jetting up over them. At least if you don't get the SXL model like in this video, you get regular looking leather.
I have an EX Turbo + 2013. I have a heavy foot and normally get 27mpg and sometimes as low as 23. Using Eco mode and actually doing the speed limit or less, driving with the attempt to use the least amount of gas; up to 43mpg. No lies. That high. I do have a K&N filter installed which helped the fuel economy, but with this car, there are extremes to the fuel usage due to the way you drive it. My guess it that you drive in traffic often in cities for you to get 19mpg. If not, I would mention that to your dealer or mechanic to see if that's normal. To me that's very low.
caveman175 yeah ive been driving more now and i get on highways a bit more often now so im averaging about 23 street and hwy. still your doing pretty good for a turbo.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong in converting. My car reads in Liters burned per 100KM which I usually burn 7.5L to 10L. That's on highway with aftermarket intake and 91 octane gasoline. If I converted it right, I'm glad to hear that's good considering my foot don't leave the floor!
I hope Kia/ Hyundai find the good steering feel soon. And I think for me to buy the Kia brand they'd need to help the perception issue of Kia and redesign their logo to look more premium
I agree with the Logo aspect - that's why most of us who have purchased the car opt for the Korean version of the badges. Makes it more professional and after 2.5 years of driving one I still get stares and questions...love it. BTW. I have the 2012.
The ONLY thing i don't like about the new Optima is that turbo badging by the side front fender. I'd say get rid of that. But it's a great looking car with the power to match. It has a more boxy look compared to the 2012 model I have. But definitely looks more aggressive and sexy. Would I trade in my 2012 for the 2014 SX Limited? Hells to the yeah!!!!
Even though Hyundai and Kia are mechanically built the same, The Biggest difference between Hyundai and Kia is the interior (Especially on the Optima and Sorrento). Kia is the more "upscale" interior of the two.
Well I have the sxl turbo and the ride is very smooth and does very well with bumps. And the the noise on the KIA turbo is quiet but once you really step on the peddle the turbo kicks in and it becomes a Diffrent car. But if I was you I would really take a turbo it is well worth it.
Noah Hamdan I appreciate that. I am trying to stay within a certain budget, which is why I am looking at the non-turbo. And I am actually looking at used to stay within my budget. I am getting a bit frustrated that I haven't found a comfortable car with not much road noise, and that isn't dreadfully slow that is within my budget. Thanks for your reply.
37K screw that. At least the roof isn't sloped as badly as the Sonata so 2nd row head access is decent. 25.x MPG Combined isn't bad on the Turbo. Watch out for the insurance rates BTW. I'd still get the Accord over this. That 10yr. warranty better be followed with a on time maintenance history per the owners manual otherwise a dealer can deny your warranty claim.
Same insurance rate turbo or no turbo. I switched insurance from my 2007 jetta to sxl optima and it hasn't change by a penny (Allstate full coverage) Don't have to follow owners maintenance to maintain warranty.
D Koster Not true. If you read your manual thoroughly, you'll see that if you don't have maintenance documentation, Kia can deny any warranty claim (let's say your engine fails prematurely) because there is no proof you maintained it properly. If something major should happen to fail, say your engine, and you don't have oil change receipts, you're SOL if they question the maintenance history. They can easily say "Sorry, we think you abused or neglected the car." and show you the door.
palebeachbum Especially if this maintenance wasn't performed at a Kia dealership. The dealership isn't going to side with you if the manufacture isn't going to reimburse the dealership for the warranty work.
The reason I say pos kia is because kia's are known to be cheap economy cars which were unreliable, maybe not anymore , but that's how they presented themselfs in the 90s, additionally its not only me but kellys blue book, galves , consumer report all rate Toyota Hondas and Nissans higher in reliability and resale , and ask anyone out there would they rather buy a used kia or a used Honda
well keep in mind that is top trim absolutely speced out . you can get most of the features people care about for about 28-30k . and every manufacture is making one of these around this price . its how kia basically sells you a luxury car for sub luxury price . at these prices you could get an entry level acura , audi , lincoln ,or other luxury brand but itll come with a similar if not weaker choice of engine . and less features so the value isnt all that bad .
I suppose you have a point,It is a very good value car.Hard to justify those prices because people are not use to paying that much for a Kia especially with the current economy.
A Stiener this is a very true statement . And it just comes down in the end . To if the buyer is a person who's looking for the best value for there dollar . Or if there one who Is willing to spend a little more for the prestige of buying a luxery brand . Nothing is wrong with either . And honestly it's hard to think of a car as being a entry luxery class car in specs sitting next to a 12k Kia Rio . But in these last year's Kia and hundai have come a giant step forward and I'm starting to think there worth every penny which is more than I can say about a lot of brands lately .
Is this supposed to be an independent review? i like how at one point he says "we' are competing in the mid-size sedan market. Through rest of review he talks about how "they" did this and "they" did that. Watch review again and realize it's just an ad for Kia.
Mmmmm, how much did this review got paid from kia, ppl are forgetting something real important, this is a kia, it looks nice but thats it. Lets just see how many of this cars will be on the road on the next 5-10 years.
1. Electrical whine coming from all 4 fan settings. Tried all blend settings/positions and even removed cabin air filter to no change. 2. Ignition starter: unusual delay before vehicle actually starts after turning the key - dealer said it was abnormal and that none of their cars on the lot do that. 3. Driver's seat is bunching or creasing - either the fabric or cushion material is improperly installed or of poor quality. 4. Excessive wind and whistling noises around windows (when closed) at medium and highway speeds. 5. Transmission gearing is poor - power is weak, likely related to poor shift points. 6. Brakes are "squishy" (may need bleeding) and feel inadequate and somewhat unsafe. 7. Steering "selection" = sport, comfort, normal - produce no differences in vehicle responsiveness. 8. General understeer - steering is generally unresponsive or minimally responsive, requiring too much driver input = unsafe. 9. Visibility is poor - large pillars and less glass than previous models = poor, unsafe viewing "windows".
Robert D I'm happy with mine. I could likely find the same thing for any other comparable car. Not really scientific when you just copy stuff from somewhere. How much are you getting paid to slag the car?
I get right around 29-30 mpg hwy on my '12 SX. When I was in Canada a few years ago (where speed limits are lower) I got 36 mpg! And I'm a pretty heavy-footed driver.
***** 30 MPG highway is quite thirsty for this car, even if you have the turbo. Accelerate more gently and don't run the AC so much. Drive it like a Rolls Royce running on liquified gold and you should see an improvement.
palebeachbum "Drive it like a Rolls Royce running on liquified gold and you should see an improvement." Lol, You have been added to the Creskins book of great quotes! Good Job.
Not everyone wants Audi road feel in the steering. Some of us don't mind a slightly numb steering feel. If I wanted Audi steering feeling then I think I would buy an Audi.
ngb802 I just went to several websites and did some comparison. The 2012 Honda accord resale value is $18,500 and the Kia Optima is $18,400. One hundred dollars, where I come from, is NOT a lot of money and does not give a tremendous advantage to the Honda. Kia and Hyundai have vastly improved on their quality and are neck and neck with ANY Japanese car manufacturer.
Please back up you "pos kia" statement with something worthwhile. Maybe do a side by side comparison (including resale values) with other brands and see if u have anything besides "well... because it's a kia." Grandparents are a good source of info but sometimes you have to do some research and update your knowledge about what's going on around you. Things do change. Kias and Hyundais today are just as good or better than Hondas, way more reliable than nissans and way better looking than toyotas.
That is one of the best looking cars I've ever seen.
i bought the 2013 kia optima premium and didnt know that the 2014 will have so many improvements..like the seats, and auto hold. also the rear lights look great. interior looks much more luxorious..
I bought the 13 sxl and dont regret it but i wish a lil i woulda held out for those seats on the 14 lol
This car is very good looking. I think It even looks like an AUDI inside and out
Proly bc it's designed by Peter Schreyer, former chief Audi designer kia hired years ago
We love our 2014 kia just working on how drive in sport mode 😍😍😍
I just got a 2015 2 weeks ago and I absolutelly love it.Same color as the one on the video.Great review.
I love that interior. It has a SAAB type look n ambiance going on. Very nice.
Beautiful looking car with very nice colour
at 3.16 great work going THRU the stop sign without completely stopping.

I have a 2012 optima sx and I love the new front fascia of the 2014.
I have 2004 Grand Prix now, but I want this car. I'm also looking at the 2014 Chevy Impala. Kia is calling me though.
are the headlights for the SX LED
My sister just sold her 2014 sxl, exactly like the one in the video. I should've bought it.
for those of you that have the turbo , what is your average mpg? i have a 2014 lx model and i do 19mpg.
I have an EX Turbo + 2013. I have a heavy foot and normally get 27mpg and sometimes as low as 23. I agree. The emblem of KIA looks too much simple. please change it to be more luxurious
I don't know if you know, but you're suppose to stop at stop signs! But anyways, I definitely want this car!!
Best desing for a sedan car. But low ground clearance.
The ONLY thing i don't like about the new Optima is that turbo badging by the side front fender. I'd say get rid of that. But it's a great looking car with the power to match. i still prefer my 2012 SX Optima...good hp, good torque, only downside is the aftermarkt -_- but im happy :D
Even though Hyundai and Kia are mechanically built the same, The Biggest difference between Hyundai and Kia is the interior (Especially on the Optima and Sorrento). Kia is the more "upscale" interior of the two.
Very handsome. Tell me, do you come with the car?
I do 😂😂😂
I thought this was a really good review
good luck with that over 30 MPG. i'm very gentle driver and have trouble staying around 28. other than that i love the car
Beautiful car. I just don't think this steering wheel squares with the rest of the car
i have this car in all black and its amazing
Noah Hamdan I am thinking about getting the SX non-turbo. How is the ride and road noise in your car? I am seeing mixed reviews.
Well I have the sxl turbo and the ride is very smooth and does very well with bumps. And the the noise on the KIA turbo is quiet but once you really step on the peddle the turbo kicks in and it becomes a Diffrent car. But if I was you I would really take a turbo it is well worth it.

i always liked this car
excellent reviewer
Can a 6'2 person fit in this, someone please reply!
Yup and comfortably too!
In the rear seat as well?
***** Sorry I should have add this in but how is rear headroom?
Ah okay, thanks!
rolled right through the stop sign haha
your videos are good, subbed
37k for a kia?? I don't think so. I'd rather buy a V6 accord touring.
Like I keep saying I wonder when these "unbiased" tester will run out of superlatives.
Am what on kia 2015 k900
They had me at 274 HP, yes please!
A true "watch fan" would know that watches don't have "faces", people do. Watches have dials.
i really enjoyed this review:)
How can they possibly make this car any sexier
bash it with baseball bat, thats how.
Kia Sucks, its not a car you will enjoy driving.
"D-shaped steering wheel"? I think most people call that a "flat bottom steering wheel".
Waaaay better than the new Sonata, inside and out.
My Mom Is Getting One Next Month
He doesn't know what he is talking about. Steering mode options are included yet he just ranted about how it sucked.
37K screw that. At least the roof isn't sloped as badly as the Sonata so 2nd row head access is decent. 25.x MPG Combined isn't bad on the Turbo. Watch out for the insurance rates BTW.
I'd still get the Accord over this. That 10yr. warranty better be followed with a on time maintenance history per the owners manual otherwise a dealer can deny your warranty claim.
accord is ugly, your old man's car.
pinkkhang
I like the Sport & the Touring trim levels. The LX, EX, EX-L look average.
Same insurance rate turbo or no turbo. I switched insurance from my 2007 jetta to sxl optima and it hasn't change by a penny (Allstate full coverage) Don't have to follow owners maintenance to maintain warranty.

Especially if this maintenance wasn't performed at a Kia dealership.
The dealership isn't going to side with you if the manufacture isn't going to reimburse the dealership for the warranty work.
270 + hp in that lil car? omg
Offer a hatchback + AWD and I'm sold.
Ran the stop sign lol
"ain't no body got time for that"
Those seats are gaudy looking... not bad looking car otherwise
All I heard was "They're working on it".
Because you're a moron. All car makers are working on improving their product. How stupid of you to focus on that. Grow up!
Very nice car :)
Nice car with good features but for over 35K $ ahh no thanks.

I got my 2014 Kia Optima Sx Tubro, brand new, for just over 24k including taxes, title and fees. Msrp is just a number that no one should pay.
@ aznman23233: Wow, that's a terrific price. I got a quote for just over 31k for a 2015 Optima sxL. And I thought I was getting a great deal!

I don't see why they added 270hp to a family sedan when the 192hp (2015 models) engine is perfectly fine and more than enough power
Looks like KIA is attempting to join VAG.
Mmmmm, how much did this review got paid from kia, ppl are forgetting something real important, this is a kia, it looks nice but thats it. Lets just see how many of this cars will be on the road on the next 5-10 years.
You need to get the facts before you post an ill-informed comment.
9. Visibility is poor - large pillars and less glass than previous models = poor, unsafe viewing "windows".
this is just what i found on a 2 second google search...

you do highway driving. I get 24 city

i'll go with Honda Accord over this
accord is ugly
you know who drives an accord? my 67 year old grandpa is an old mans car.
my neighbor drives an accord, He's almost 60
would U pay 37k for a Kia ? that's all matters.....
Only a fool would drop $30k on a kia
Only a fool would not look at all of their options. I'd have to pay 5k more from any other manufacturer.
Foolish enough to come watch one though.
its a POS kia for 30K, i rather get a 1-2 year old used honda / nissan
You're living in the past kid, Kia and Hyundai have grown up.
look at its resale value compared to any other car
ngb802 I just went to several websites and did some comparison. The 2012 Honda accord resale value is $18,500 and the Kia Optima is $18,400. One hundred dollars, where I come from, is NOT a lot of money and does not give a tremendous advantage to the Honda. Grandparents are a good source of info but sometimes you have to do some research and update your knowledge about what's going on around you. Things do change. Kias and Hyundais today are just as good or better than Hondas, way more reliable than nissans and way better looking than toyotas.
