First, thanks for clarifying that, answered my question in to the point facts - just what I was looking for Second, my heart went out to Jason, looking as if he was "volunteered" for the job in a meeting held on his day off by people in possession of scandalously incriminating photos
Thank you. I actually hoped to learn is there was a difference between cold rolled and cold drawn. I was just watching this as a primer, but you gave me the full answer. Cheers.
Always wondered about the difference. I’ll be headed to the Raleigh NC location in the near future. I hear y’all are great for hobbyist welders like me and not just contractors.
So how does this relate to crystallization? I looked this question up after watching a blacksmithing video which referred to hot rolled steel being worked at temperatures above its recrystallization threshold, and was curious as to how lower temperatures would affect this process in particular...
Don't be looking for the metallurgical and mechanical property differences from this bozo presenter. All he covered is the cosmetic appearance. CLICK BAIT
The two steel processes are so important the "Hot Rolled & Cold Rolled" steels. Great Job! T J (Tom) Vanderloop, CMfgE; ATEA, AWS & SME Leadership/Membership
So... The differences are that cold rolled has tighter dimensional tolerance, and has a smoother finish. But what about strength, toughness, hardness, etc? Those seem to be very salient properties, about which I'm not finding much information... Oh, and of course, cost. You mentioned cheaper, but by how much 1%? 10%? 50%? Obviously it varies; I'm just looking for ball park figures.
in hot working it results in improvements of properties like impact strength and elongation. due to higher deformation temperature, the stress required for deformation is less. Hot working refines metal grain resulting in improved mechanical properties. if cracks and boles are present in the metal, they are finished through hit working. if hot working is properly performed it does not effect ultimate tensile strength, hardness, yield strength and fatigue strength of the metal but in cold working it improves UTS ,hardness and yield strength..................i think this information may helps u .....................i m ashutosh from india.
Cold rolled should have higher tensile strength since it has a certain amount of work hardening when it comes to you. Hot rolled is not "the same only cheaper". In hot rolled steel the composition is not controlled as much as it is in cold rolled. Name brand certified cold rolled won't have as much stress as generic cold rolled. Curtis steel brand cold rolled is oil can. Reliance brand tends to be better.
Ashutosh Dubey - Sir it seems you have good idea about cold formed steel. I am currently researching on possibility of cold formed steel used as structural steel. I have some specific doubts about it. Can you help me ???
My experience has been that cold rolled steels or any alloy worked at room temperature has better mechanical properties and they are consistent if it is from a name brand vendor like RA. I have seen alot of generic material that had yield point runout and pockets where gigantic amounts of stress had built up. I have actually seen material that had visible bands where the yield point varied down the length and aluminum that had places with so much stress it actually had lines inside it.
I came here because i was watching an 80's wwf wrestling match and randy savage hit champion tito santana with a piece of "cold rolled steel" and knocked him out. I needed to find out what that ment
hot rolling process is used to reduce the diameter of the metal and cold rolling process is used to surface finishing, diameter accuracy of product of hot rolling process... am i right ?? plz tell me
hot rolling process is to form steel to shape. Without continuing the process, this rolled shape will reduce in size as it cools down, often losing sharp edges, squareness, finish, and straightness. When I say losing squareness and straightness, I mean in the thousandths range, not in any great amount. More a concern for machining to tight tolerances than for typical non-critical use.
thank you so much this was a lot of help I am starting a business selling industrial kitchen equipment and needed to know what kind of stainless steel to use thank you very much sir!!!!
metal soup market I think that won't help me I need to know where I can buy some square metal tubing in my town of Mesa az, not to thick of a gauge just to frame up a Wall for a patio, no soup wanted.
26 seconds in and i had to pause the video to mention that the audio has a really bad echo in it. It sounds like there were 2 audio sources that are out of sync but just a tiny bit. Either way, it hurts.
Very good explanation. We need this kind of teacher in our schools and colleges. Thanks for the video!

Absolutely brilliant, I wanted to know the answers to my questions, and you gave excellent answers!

The concise explanation is refreshing!
Good thing the name of the company is on the videos else people might wonder how a Soup Market was involved with metals.
Always a supporter of the "Metals Supermarket" and all your work. Nice work by your organization.

Thanks to Cybertruck... I'm here for no reason.

Wow. Long time seeking this information 👍👍👍
This is excellent! Thanks from Brazil!
Thank you very much...beautifully explained and done in a lay mans term level...

Curtis Steel is one of the worst their material is oil can when you get it.
best and easiest to understand nice slow talking and shows examples
That was incredible explanation, sir! Thank you
You don't believe him? Puzzling
Please Post video for measuring thickness of Hollow section at the centre place
What's the purpose of cold rolling other than meeting close tolerances as far as strength... tensile, shear grain?
Video started at 0:26. You're welcome!
Is there any difference between cold rolled steel and hot one as regard rust resistance ?
thanks for the brief explanations
Will hot rolled work for building a homemade offset smoker ???
Thank you very much 🙏🙏🙏
Excellent explanation
Putting this comment here so the video get boosted by the algorithm and end up in everyone's recommendations
Is there a typically difference in the chemical composition between hot and cold rolled? I mean construction grade steel doesn't machine well.
Thx! Hiw about seamless and with seam pipes?
Thanks! Told me exactly what I needed to know!
Useful and interesting. Thanks.
Do you export iron scraps?
Very informative, thanks.

Thanks a lot for the video.
You are a good reader
Video starts at 0:25 you are welcome
thankx for these information.
Hi,
Do you stock WX-5 or XW-41 steel or their equivalent ?
Dear sir, we have 2 sheets HR and CR how to identify which HR and which CR
So, which one would a blacksmith use?
What is A2 Steel material
Thank you🎉
I expected a video of the processes not merely its description which I can read from tonnes of text. Anyway thank you.

I need some prices on brass. Round an flat bar stock. Each piece 12 inches long 3 quarters flat 2 inches wide. An 2 in round stock 12 inches long.
Should I use tubular or cold rolled steel “I beams” for a home)
The diference between cold roll and cold drawing?
The bars on those gates are 4 inches thick; cold rolled steel.
Thank you for the share
Which one is stronger
Thank you sir...
Thank you.
Thank you, perfect

There is only one thing you need to know. Conan will let you feel the Cold Steel, ripping through your spine!
good video
Is there a lukewarm rolled?
Metal soup markets?
thank you
thank you, thank you thank you thank you
Thanks from india
Cool.
God bless metallurgy and materials science, Cybertruck and Starship.
That was exciting
But a major point to be made is that the shaping of the steel has nothing to do with the composition!!!

THOSE ARE GIANTS RIDING MAMMOTHS DOWN THERE, YOU THINK YOUR "COLD ROLLED STEEL" IS GOING TO STOP THEM!?
Next video, difference between quality audio vs crappy audio quality.
Thank you very much, won't you have a store in Peru to buy only from you? XD would be better
