  • In this video, I discuss 7 ways you can modulate to a new key in a song. I use musical examples from the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Tom Waits, and Lou Reed to demonstrate.

    And you're right at your introduction that it does makes the song more interesting and unpredictable! Your examples with the Beatles songs is on the spot, as I often do hear those key changes!

    A Day in the Life by The Beatles uses chain modulation to get from the bridge back to the chorus
