You should put navigation over watching. It's necessary always having this high as possible. Plus, watch is an endless task, while navigation is done in an hour or two. To make sure of this you should overlab the shifts.
I usally leave a leader to always navigate, I roleplay them as the skipper who makes sure everyone is good and high spirts while the captain sits and stares in the sea lol
I had some reservations about this too, until I remembered an irl Uboat crew was much larger than depicted here. Just imagine it's different sailors rotating out as they're supposed to (remember that uboats used "hot bunks", meaning there were only enough beds for half the crew, since only half needed to rest at any one time).
Just found your channel, as a new player to UBOAT although have played Silent Hunter series. When you change the names of your crew do you look at their Info to see what their history is e.g. where they previously a mechanic etc. Look forward to going through more of your videos Michael
I appreciate your help with the settings, but this is the kind of thing I was referring to. No one in Kriegsmarine history, ever assumed that someone would be asleep, or be on duty all through a voyage. The chef wasn't trained to fix the radio and the engine mechanics never had to run the kitchen. This superfluous activity doesn't add immersion or realism... so how can I turn it off?
@@Lite_lySalted Thanks. Looking forward to final release, backed this on kickstarter, but not played for a while. didn't want to get burned out, think last time i played was when the management system was implemented. Game is coming on great :)
I did it exactly as you did in your video, but my sailors Engine One and Two are still idle when I have my mechanics officer do another task. Leaving my boat at a halt. Did something in the latest patch screw something up?
@@Lite_lySalted No, sadly, it didn't work. I told my officer working the engines to warm up a torpedo. The guys assigned to him, Mech.Three and Four, just went to bed. And Eng.One and Two were idle. Weird.
Can anyone help me with the crew fatige is -23 and when i dock and try to take vacation from the dock officer its blank menu nothing in it and nothing happens
Is it normal for your crew to constant change from one working station to another? My mechanic won't stay on the engine for more than 3 seconds? He'll head for bed but only get about 5 ft from his original position and then head straight back to the engine? Also I keep getting the red notification that no one is covering the Helmsman station? I'll tinker around with this but I figure duty watch would cover this aspect? Thanks for your videos! I enjoy watching your gameplay and have learned a ton!
That first bit sounds like a bug. The helmsmen station is an annoying quirk of the game, as the npcs don't move fast enough to prevent the alert for the 30 seconds before the crew takes over. "But Kaleun Skipper has the delightful and currently alpine Gretchen," I protested, "whereas Engineer Oldorp is the one who smells of the pee of the ferrets he keeps and he can't stop talking about the different grades of machine oil." "The privations of life at sea, particularly for those in command lying in their lonely bunks, can bring men together. Particularly in the forward head, where brief, beautiful, frantic moments of fumbling passion would occur, the blue light lending a certain _frisson_ to their activities. "Apparently." concluded Kayjay, carefully. "Really?" I was begining to question this particular tale. It would be a dull old world if we all played the same

Yeah... the crew may not need sleep, but I'm never going to do this schedule because it's immersion breaking 🙂

@michaelgray1351 no, I don't. It doesn't have any bearing as to their abilities that I've found so far. Thanks!

I append two letters to the crew names, for watch, engines, sailors and torpedo men. The two letters show up above the character.
That's one way of doing it, for sure
