odds are you didn't forget the pattern samsung has a glitch where 2/3 times the password refuses to work after changing/setting it I know this cuz it has happened to me twice before and I've seen others struggle with this issue

If you had a samsung account for findmymobile maybe you would see the last location of your phone. You can control everything on your phone on a computer only if you had a account already linked to your phone.

when I try to turn off phone. A screen pops up saying enter password. but I never put a pass word on it.

Does not work if you forgot swipe code. So obviously wont work if you stole one of these either. You'll need to go to a provider.
