This is total speculation, but could the shape of the toe have something to do with the quality of the materials they’re using in these retros? I wonder whether the plastic-coated cheap leather doesn’t stretch and break in like premium leather used to, and as a result, the toebox is built roomier. (More total speculation: is the plastic-coated cheap leather itself a response to all the complaining in the early 2000s about creasing? Is the net effect of FOTB obsession that we got ourselves crease-resistant plastic in place of proper leather?) Nice colorway, but I’m unimpressed with the materials.
